Work Text:
When we’re kids, we’re all taught what to do if we ever find ourselves outside after the Barrier goes up. Go to a safety center, find a magical girl if there isn’t one nearby, basic stuff. I think they wanted to scare us. But all it made me do was want to go out there. Every night I would wake up to see what it was like to be on the street, see the Barrier appear and the magical girls fighting monsters. So when I was close to the right age, I was excited. Let me tell you, I was pretty disappointed when I didn’t get the dream, but then my sister did, and it was all I could do not to ask her, “take me with you!” ‘Course she couldn’t do that, that would be stupid, but I wasn’t gonna let that stop me. I knew someone had to be filming those Daylight Updates, so I started looking. A lot of them were hesitant to take on a 12-year-old as an apprentice, but I showed up on time and put in the work and eventually, they taught me what to do; point this way, hold it this way, run away if there’s no magical girl nearby, y’know, basic stuff. They all thought I’d give up, but I didn’t stop. Eventually they gave me a camera and told me to report to some magical girls. My sister’s surprise at seeing me that night was worth it, but finally being out there was better. They never talk about it on the shows, but actually seeing the Barrier, seeing the magical girls fighting, it’s really special. If I could, I’d show you what I mean. But all I got is my camera, so you’ll have to take my word for it.
