“Bye, Baekhyun.” The soft kiss that was pressed against his forehead made him close his eyes in contentment. “Love you.”
Baekhyun contained the urge to say it back, opting to hum instead. He watched Kyungsoo pull away and go for the door, disappearing down the hall.
Then he watched him come back.
“... Yeah, I’m staying home,” Kyungsoo was saying into his phone. When Baekhyun realized what was happening, he couldn’t help but laugh, getting up to hug him from behind and interrupt him. “Baekhyun didn’t say I love you—“
“Oh my god.” He plucked the phone from Kyungsoo’s hands just in time to hear Junmyeon’s protests. “My boyfriend will be there,” he said firmly, smiling. “Also, hello, and also I’m hanging up now to console him.”
“You guys are awful,” Junmyeon said. “Fine. See you, Baekhyun.”
When he hung up the phone, he was still grinning, hugging Kyungsoo tightly. He kissed his cheek. “I love you.” There was no response, only stubborn silence, so he said it again. “I love you, babe.”
Kyungsoo pulled away, lips forming a very uncharacteristic pout. “Then why didn’t you say it earlier?” Baekhyun tried not to smile at his tone, but it was impossible. “You’re supposed to say ‘I love you’ before I leave. It’s a rule.”
“Are you whining about this?”
“I’m leaving—“
“You’re too cute,” Baekhyun said, catching him before he could run away. Kyungsoo surrendered instantly. “I’m sorry. I just wanted to see what would happen if I didn’t say it. I didn’t think you’d notice.”
“How am I not supposed to notice it?” Kyungsoo said. “You say it every time.”
“Maybe I spoil you too much, then,” Baekhyun teased, tightening his arms.
“No such thing,” Kyungsoo shot back.
They stayed like that for a beat longer before Baekhyun finally relinquished his hold, waving at Kyungsoo to go. “You’re going to be late.”
“Junmyeon can wait,” Kyungsoo said with a suspicious lack of remorse, though he obediently began to gather his things again. “Bye, Baekhyun,” he said at the bedroom door, staring at him expectantly.
“Bye, babe,” he said, grinning. “I love you.”
Kyungsoo was trying to fight a smile, Baekhyun could tell, but he failed in the end and Baekhyun saw it just before he turned to leave. “Love you, too.”
