Work Text:

All I see are red, a sea of red color. Fire is burning, people are screaming, and when I see my own hand… it’s as red as a pool of blood I've seen. I don’t know what happened yet I know it might be my fault. Did I snap and lose control? I asked myself again and again as I walked, dragging my blood stained sword with me up to the cold mountain. My feet felt numb yet I kept walking to the snowy mountain, at least I will be lonely up there.

I wonder if I really snapped, why didn’t she stop me?

“Albedo…”

A voice, the voice is calling my name. And the voice… the voice sounds just like her.

“Albedo…!”

Is it really her voice? Did I hurt her that now she is haunting me?

“Albedo, answer me!”

It’s really her voice… is it?

“Lumine…” I called her name. The next thing I see is her, standing in front of me. The snowstorm is coming so as the time comes she faded into the haze.

I ran to her, trying to reach her. She seemed so upset at me yet I am still trying to get close to her.

“Look what you did… why did you do this?” She asked me. I fell silent. Why?

“Lumi-- I’m… sorry…”

“You really are a monster, aren't you?” She said calmly before she walked away.

I tried to catch her but… she is getting far and out of my reach.

“Lumine!”

“Lu--” The blonde alchemist waking up from his dream. He stared at the amber eyes in front of him, face still pale from his dream.

“Are you okay? You seemed to be struggling and I tried to wake you up but…” Lumine said gently. She seemed worried, her hands now cupping his face.

“It’s… it’s a bad dream, I guess? I’m fine.” Albedo sighed. It’s not a dream, it’s the worst nightmare he ever had.

“Don’t push yourself, Albedo… I know you are tired and all. You could tell me anything if it helped you to relax.” She smiled at him. Her sincere smile always warmed his heart.

“I’m fine, really… don’t worry about me.” Albedo returned her smile. He moved closer to her, giving her a small peck on her lips before he buried himself under the blanket again.

“Alright then, let’s get back to sleep.” Lumine nodded. She quickly joining him before she hugged him.

“But one thing… I want you to promise me something…” He said, his sky blue eyes are staring at her amber.

“Yes?”

“If one day I lost control, promise me you’ll be the one who stop me.” Albedo smiled. She nodded at him.

“I promise, we always had that promise.” Lumine smiled back. Then they close their eyes back to sleep.

And that day in the snowy mountain, the girl held the corrupted alchemist in her warm hug for the last time. He had destroyed everything, leaving it to dust. She had no choice but to stop him from doing more damage.

“I’m sorry, my love…”

She whispered for the last time, and her long sword stabbed both of them, ultimately ending the hero and the monster.
