Leonard woke up to Jim’s soft snores beside him. The blond had his arms slung tightly around Leonard’s middle, their legs tangled together beneath their blanket. But it wasn’t the snores of his Omega mate that had woken him in the first place, rather the feeling of nausea that grew stronger with every second of wakefulness, not even Jim’s calming scent helped.
Bolting upright and taking Jim halfway up with him, before jumping out of bed and running to the bathroom, Leonard managed to reach the toilet just in time. He fell to his knees and emptied what was in his stomach.
Jim came running into the room after Leonard, looking and smelling concerned. The captain knelt down next to the brunet and began to rub soothing circles onto his back. “Bones, it’s gonna be alright.”
Suddenly the reassuring nothings Jim had started to whisper and the soft petting on his back stopped. Leonard risked a look over his shoulder and found Jim looking just as green as he felt. Then Jim grabbed the trash can, which Leonard had requested for the bathroom once he moved together with Jim, and just like Leonard before him he started puking his guts out.
It took about fifteen minutes for both of their stomachs to settle down. The moment Jim and Leonard were able to lean back against the bathroom wall without bile rising in their throats, Spock stood in the doorway looking down at them with a raised eyebrow. And Spock’s presence wasn’t a big shock really, smelling two distressed Omegas in the next room would have each and every Alpha alarmed.
The expected presence of Spock didn’t bother Leonard in the slightest, the hobgoblin had walked in on them in far worse situations, what suddenly was bothering him was Spock’s scent. When the normally relative neutral smell hit his nose, it wasn’t neutral at all, it suddenly smelled like a ton of bad things Leonard didn’t dare to describe, it brought the nausea back up in a flash. Turning even more into Jim, he buried his head into Jim’s still sweat damp neck, inhaling the sweet scent of his mate to calm him down.
Just raising an eyebrow at his action, Spock asked, “Captain, Doctor are you well?”
“Just peachy,” Leonard retorted, voice muffled by Jim’s neck.
Spock’s eyebrow arched even higher, “Since the doctor’s answer seems to be of sarcastic nature I suggest a visit to medbay would be a wise decision.”
Jim wrapped himself a bit more around Bones, shielding him a little from Spock’s view. “I think we’re good, thanks Spock,” Jim answered, sending his first officer a small glare on Bones’ behalf.
“As First Officer of this ship it is my duty to ensure the wellbeing of the crew and the wellbeing of this ship depends on the good health of both the Captain and the CMO, so it’s my obligation to escort the both of you to the medical bay for a checkup.”
Leonard peeled his head out of his hiding place just to send an even darker glare Spock’s way.
“Fine. Just let us get changed,” Jim eventually answered.
“I’ll be waiting outside your quarters,” with that the vulcan left the room.
“Damn hobgoblin can’t let things go,” Leonard grumbled, not wanting to move from his place on the floor just yet.
“Well maybe he’s right, you should definitely be checked out, I probably just-“
“If you’re gonna say that you just puked, because I did, then scratch it. We’ve seen each other in far worse situations and never triggered the other to vomit, so whatever I have you have it too.”
“Can’t you just scan us here?”
“Do you really think your first officer will let us be if I tell him I did a scan in our quarters?”
“No,” Jim answered, defeated, making first movements to get up, much to Leonard's protest. Once Jim was standing he offered a hand to Leonard, who reluctantly let himself be pulled into a standing position.
Without any more words they got dressed. Choosing to wear off duty clothes rather than their uniform, cause it was only the middle of gamma shift and the both of them weren't feeling or looking like Captain and CMO at the moment anyway. They were still a bit shaky on their legs, so it took them a while to meet up with Spock again.
Once in the hallway the Vulcan wouldn’t leave them out of his sight and it got Leonard’s hackles up. Jim’s close proximity was the only thing that kept him on his feet, but at one point even that wasn’t enough. He had felt a bit faint ever since he had gotten up from the bathroom floor, but not far from medbay he had to grip the wall to keep his legs from giving out. Jim tightened his hold on Leonard instantly. Spock reached out to help steady him as well, but the doctor felt himself back away and he could definitely hear Jim’s growls in his first officer’s direction. They both clearly weren’t normal Omega’s but this kind of behavior wasn’t normal even for them.
“Bones?”
“Fine, Jim, I’m fine,” Jim looked anything but convinced, but let it drop, clearly not wanting to discuss this in the hallway when they were only a few meters from medical bay.
The rest of the way Leonard leaned heavily into Jim’s side, even though the blond wasn’t looking all too great himself. Spock took the lead apparently no longer fearing them avoiding sickbay.
Inside they were greeted by Christine Chapel and Leonard cursed his own luck; she would find a way to tease him with this for a long time to come. “Such a high ranking visit at this hour, what happened?”
“I found both the Doctor and the Captain in a distressed state in the shared bathroom, Doctor McCoy’s state seems to have worsened on the way here. In addition it seems they find my closer presence disconcerting,” Spock summed up the last half hour.
“You’re exaggerating,” Leonard scowled.
“Let me be the judge of that,” Christine led Leonard to one biobed, while Jim set down on the next one voluntarily for probably the first time.
Leonard watched her getting the biobed running, turning the screen with his vital signs away from him. She studied them for a while before taking a tricorder for additional scans. It’s then that a, in Leonard’s opinion, dangerous smile spreads over her face.
“Congratulations,” being the only thing she said.
“Congratulations?” Both Leonard and Jim echoed.
“You are a bit dehydrated, the cause of that may be your morning sickness, so yeah congratulations, you’re gonna be a dad.”
He sat there feeling a bit lost, his hand almost unconsciously wandering to his still flat abdomen, then his eyes met Jim’s; blue eyes that were beaming, glowing intensely. Happiness was nearly overwhelming him, it wasn’t only his own, but Jim’s mingling in over their shared bond. He had shut off his surroundings a bit just wanting to quell in this pure joy, it was Christine, who by then had also scanned Jim, laughing that got him out of his dream-like state.
“You two are unbelievable, you do nothing halfways.”
“Woman, what are you talking about?” Leonard had moved to Jim, wanting to be back by his mates side.
“Well it seems like you both are six weeks pregnant.”
The two Omegas looked quite shocked. It wasn’t too common for two Omegas to be mates, pregnancies were definitely possible, but both Omegas pregnant? You could probably count these occurrences on one hand. The slight out of ordinary look on Spock’s face confirmed Leonard’s thoughts.
He was still a bit lost in thought by the time Christine had ushered Spock out of the area and had pulled a privacy curtain around them.
After a long while of silence Jim broke their bubble in space and time, “Bones,” the blue eyes were a window to Jim’s soul and Leonard could see what he was about to say, “I want those kids, I want you and me and our babies on the Enterprise. I want to show them the beauty of space. I want it all with you. I love you and I already love them. I-”
“I want that all too. I want a family with you, this family. I love you and them.”
“Can you imagine how perfect they will be, I mean look at us,” Jim said grinning from ear to ear.
“Idiot,” Leonard answered before leaning in to shut his mate up with a kiss. With that they got lost in each other’s presence.
