Summary
Buck’s not really sure what to say here, so he doesn’t say anything. For a minute they stand there in total silence, the TV muted, and looking at Eddie – the defeated slump of his shoulders, the hand over his mouth, the eyes staring blankly at nothing – it’s like those modern art installations one of Buck’s exes used to take him to: Man, with broken heart.
Man, eviscerated.
Buck’s no good with people being sad around him – it always feels like his responsibility, like if they aren’t smiling it’s his fault, and this time it really is his fault, at least partially, so he offers, “You can beat me up, if it would make you feel better.”

“Are there any other rules to the universe that I need to know?” He asks Chris in jest. “I don’t want to risk anything furthering their relationship and it accidentally being my fault!”
“Have you ever heard of Google? Type ‘manifesting’ into the search bar and let the internet help you. I have more homework to do.” And with that typical last blow of teenage sass Chris leaves Eddie alone at the table.
or: Eddie Diaz learns how to speak things into existence.

Summary
“I thought you were ready to start dating,” Bobby says, which. Eddie doesn’t think that’s remotely close to the point.
“Yeah, Eddie,” Buck echoes, all narrowed eyes and petulance, aggressively attempting to spear a tomato on his plate while maintaining eye contact.
“I…I don’t think the blind dates were really working out.”
“So you’re trying to get out of your aunt’s setups, again. And this is what you’re going with?” Hen says, eyebrows raised.
“I did not say that. I hadn’t even thought about telling Pepa I’m seeing Felisa, to be honest.” But isn’t that a thought. “I just thought a break would be nice, you know? I can find someone at my own pace, organically.”
A chorus of protests and objections, to the tune of “how are you going to meet someone organically when everybody thinks you’re dating someone else”, breaks out across the table.
“Oh, he’s gonna find someone organically, alright,” Chimney interrupts. “Obviously, he’s gonna fall in love with Felisa.”
Buck promptly begins to choke on his salad.
Or: Eddie pretends to date Felisa Valdez, a normal thing to do, for normal reasons. Buck acts normal about it.
