Secure Hold

Summary:

You’re lost in your own head, you can’t even properly access what your teammates are saying. Everything is just frozen.. your body won’t move no matter how many times you try, only being greeted with numbness.

Terror had filled you like no other because of that Shadow’s attack. Now you’re having a mind screaming episode that’s fighting with each other.

But if one thing’s for certain, your leader knows how to help you through it.

Work Text:

Your hands are visibly trembling, almost giving out in dropping your weapons. Your vision is obscured, mind scrambling and fighting with no clear thought. But you’re pretty sure you’re crying from the sensation of your eyes tearing up. You can’t even sob, every attempt to move your body is pointless.

Panther tries to call out to you in concern, standing the closest. Though she turns weary when seeing your far away gaze, pupils dilating as water falls behind your mask. The others similarly do the same, being careful in acting gentle and giving you space to not trigger anything worse, but you’re too gone to reason with.

Legs wobbling, you almost collapse with a wail when a familiar pair of red gloves hands reach out, one resting the small of your back while the other went under your knees. Effortlessly, Joker carries you bridal style in his arms, letting the side of your head lay on his shoulder as he holds you against him.

By this point you’ve dropped your gun and sword, arms hanging limply at your sides as the amount of negativity and anguish swirls up. Queen goes to hold them for you, red eyes tinting deep worry.

”Shhh…” Joker’s soothing voice whispers in your ears. “It’s okay, love.. stay for as long as you need.”

With ragged breathing, a weeping sound soon follows, though it didn’t feel like you made it. Your leader just softly pets your hair, making sure to keep his movements slow as to not startle you. He used the same arm holding your back to caress your head.

It was practically out of instinct that you pressed yourself further against Joker, nose snuggling his neck, the collar of his tail cost touching your temple. You could smell the faint scent of coffee, and that seemed to ease you at least a little. It was then you felt enough strength to throw your arms around his shoulders, hiding your face from everyone.

Muffled sobs and whimpers soon came out. Your mind was still clouded, having the lack of focus as you drowned your friends’ talk as background noise. Your head hurts, your chest is tight, and you feel like you’ll burst from all the pent up anxiety washing over you.

Joker doesn’t say anything further, continuing to assist you in carrying your body as the thieves left the area. And by taking another whiff of Leblanc’s coffee, you know you’ll be okay just as he said. And until you can, you have a secure hold to turn to.
