Work Text:
You were employed at Bubu Pharmacy as a medical consultant five years ago. You were ecstatic that you would be able to work under the great Dr.Baizhu.
Only if you knew how close you two would grow over the next five years.
At first, your relationship was nothing but professional, he was just your boss and nothing else. But the beginning of something more blossomed forth when you saw Baizhu, the real Baizhu, one chilly evening.
It was winter in Liyue, the cold bitter wind blew into the pharmacy. It was a slow day, customers preferring to warm up in the safety of their own home rather than going outside.
Gui was taking his day off and Qiqi was out on a walk. Her cryo vision made her closely acquainted with the cold, so you weren’t worried. You don't think zombies could even get cold anyways.
It was just you and Dr.Baizhu in the pharmacy today, with you scribbling away at paperwork while he quietly restocked herbs.
It was mostly silent, only the sounds of shuffling of the doctor’s feet and the scratch of your pen against paper filling the room. Every now and then you would hear Dr.Baizhu’s teeth chatter as he took in a shaky breath. He must be cold, which was odd.
You always assumed he was never cold considering his everyday clothes left his stomach bare. Weird attire for a doctor but you weren’t complaining though, you hated to admit it but you loved how his tight shirt revealed his midriff and supple arms.
You shifted your focus from your boss to the task at hand and settled back into your thoughts.
But you were quickly torn away from your focus when you heard a loud
‘THUD’.
You whipped your head around in concern, your eyes landing on Dr.Baizhu splayed out on the floor with an open jar of dried qixing flowers spilled beside him.
You rose out of your seat and quickly made your way towards the man, kneeling down to his level and gathering up the dried qixing flowers, carefully putting them back into the jar.
“Are you alright Dr.Baizhu?” you asked, concerned.
He just groaned and tried to pick himself up before stumbling again.
He laid on the ground in defeat, his head resting on the wooden floor, and his teeth chattering again from the cold.
Once you got all the flowers back into the jar, you closed the lid and put it on the counter. You turned your attention to the doctor still lying on the floor, never seeing Dr.Baizhu so uncomposed. You knelt beside him and patted the palm of your hand on his back, he shuddered in response but didn’t look up at you.
“...sir?”
He craned his neck towards you, tired amber eyes meeting your worried ones before looking away quickly in embarrassment.
He muttered a quiet ‘sorry’ before sitting up, body trembling.
His eyes avoided yours, he pretended that there was something interesting on the floor. His finger traced circles into the wooden panels, he opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out.
You noticed how his body still shook, most likely shivering from the cold. You took off your sweater and wrapped it around him in an attempt to warm him up, his eyes were still glued to the floor as his fingers hesitantly pulled your sweater around himself tightly. His teeth stopped chattering as he sighed with relief from the warmth your sweater brang.
“Thank you dear” he whispered in a hushed tone so quiet that a part of you thought you imagined it.
You hummed in acknowledgment bringing one hand to rest on his shoulder and the other pulling him up. He wobbled as he stood up, leaning against you for balance.
“My apologies..” he finally muttered,
Dr.Baizhu’s head looking up to meet your gaze.
“I wish you didn’t have to see me like this..”, he said under his breath, voice cracking. Anxiety and shame dripped from his words, making your heartbreak.
You were about to tell him there was nothing to apologize for before he spoke again.
“T-The cold makes me weaker, sorry, I should’ve waited for Gui to restock the herbs for me instead of doing it myself.”
You just stayed silent and gave him an empathetic nod.
You knew Dr.Baizhu suffered from an incurable ailment that made him weak but you didn’t know anything more than that. Questions swirled in your head but you decided not to press.
“Is there anything I can do, Dr.Baizhu?” you questioned
“Can you help walk me to my room y/n?” his voice rasped, laden with exhaustion.
If your head weren’t so preoccupied with concern your heart would’ve usually fluttered in your chest from hearing Dr.Baizhu speak your name in that raspy tone.
In silent agreement, you helped him walk towards the stairs leading up to his bedroom.
His arm was around your shoulder as his head meekly leaned against the crook of your neck. You almost melted from the touch but you kept your composure not wanting to fall and take both of you tumbling down the flight of stairs.
You finally made it to his bedroom door, pushing it open.
Dr.Baizhu’s room was simple yet cozy. Plants and greenery were scattered around the room. The light of the setting sun peeked through curtains of the big window across the room. Below the window was a bookshelf, Changsheng’s Terrarium sat upon it, the little white snake comfortably sleeping under the heat lamp. The doctor’s bookshelf was filled with numerous herbal medicine and botany books along with the occasional novel. In the corner, there was a small wooden desk littered with papers that were scrawled with various notes.
You and Dr.Baizhu made your way to his bed, he immediately dropped onto his bed, his eyes clouded with exhaustion. The man let out a small sigh and muttered a small ‘thank you again’, you flashed a soft smile in response.
You walked over to his bathroom that was connected to the bedroom and filled a glass of tap water for him. You tiptoed back into his bedroom and silently placed the cup of water on his nightstand, unsure if he was already fast asleep or not.
You then made your way to the bedroom window and closed the curtains so Dr.Baizhu could rest, darkness filled the room.
You were going to the door to leave but you felt cold fingers meekly wrap around your wrist. A gasp of surprise got caught in your throat as you turned to look down at the doctor. His golden amber irises lazily met yours through half-lidded eyes.
“Is it alright if you stay for a while y/n..?” he questioned in a sleep-laden voice.
His words were spoken with a hesitation and quietness you’ve never heard before. Almost like you’d crumble in his grip if he talked any louder.
“O-of course Doctor” you replied after a few seconds of stunned silence.
“We’re alone, you can just call me Baizhu.”,
although you couldn’t see him that well in the dark you heard the smile in his tone. Your heart skipped a beat.
“Okay...Baizhu“, you quietly muttered his name a few more times under your breath, paralyzed with the feeling of how it felt on your tongue.
Snapping out of your daze you dragged his desk chair to his side of his bed and sat down. Baizhu chuckled softly in response and let down his hair, shimmering green strands falling gracefully to his shoulders.
After getting under his sheets Baizhu laid his head on his pillow and turned his body towards you. He outstretched his hand to you, his other hand grasped the bedroom sheets nervously, nimble fingers curled tightly.
“I’m still cold, do you mind?”
You furrowed your brow in confusion at the question.
Still cold?
Why is he holding out his hands towards you?
Wow, he has really nice hands, perfectly manicured.
Hands……cold hands.
Oh.
Your eyes widened at the realization and you felt the familiar sensation of butterflies fluttering in your stomach.
Baizhu wiggled his fingers of the hand reaching out toward you as if to say ‘I’m waiting’.
You hesitantly took his hands, your fingers laced around his. Your hands burned against his ice-cold ones. You squeezed Baizhu’s hand, you told yourself it was to reassure him, but it was for you, unsure if you were dreaming or not.
“You’re so warm..” he hummed in contentment.
Your hands (and your cheeks) grew hotter at the comment, you prayed he didn’t notice. Baizhu did, but he stayed silent, tucking away the memory for his mind to overthink about later.
You listened to his steady breaths as your thumb absentmindedly ran over his knuckles. The two of you stayed like that for a few moments, your hands warming Baizhu's.
Even though his body was weighed down with fatigue, Baizhu’s mind was wide awake now with your hands wrapped around his. It simultaneously made every muscle in his body relax and his heart race. He tried to will his mind to sleep, but it never came.
He doesn’t know how long you two sat there holding hands, the room silent except for the sound of each other breathing.
Time felt like it stopped, his body felt numb except for the feeling of your hands lazily wrapped around his.
It was almost like your warmth spread throughout his whole body. The doctor’s mind raced, not used to feeling so vulnerable in front of someone before, especially you, it made his head spin.
In this moment of weakness, without thought, words that he usually kept hidden from himself seemed to arise from depths of his heart traveling up his throat and slipping through his lips.
“I don’t want to die..” Baizhu’s voice cracked, surprised at his own words. The words cut through the comfortable silence that settled between you too and hung in the air. Baizhu felt his throat close up as if to block to talking anymore.
The sudden confession startled you, unsure how to answer, you tightened the grip around his now warm hand to show that you were listening. Baizhu turned to you, eyes glittering, threatening to spill tears.
You reached your other hand out, it paused midair in hesitation, but after a few thoughts, it resumed its route to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear and rest on his cheek, thumb swiping the tear that began to roll down his face. Baizhu leaned into your touch, the intimate gesture made him dizzy, his brain felt like mush. Biting his bottom lip nervously he
realized that he’s gone too far to go back now. He was tired of keeping these thoughts coiled up inside of him, ravaging his already sickened mind, he desperately just wanted to scream out to anyone. He prays that you will forget about all this tomorrow.
Drawing out a shaky breath, he began to speak again.
“It’s…just that…times like this…where I feel completely helpless, completely weak. It just..reminds me that I’ll never be able to live a normal life.”
“I’m just so terrified every day that I’ll just drop dead and fade into nothingness. It’s why I became a herbalist in the first place…to see if I..can fix myself.”
Tears wet his cheeks, seemingly out of place on the pretty face of the usually composed doctor.
You wanted to say something, do something, but you sat frozen in your place. He kept talking, finally letting his anxious thoughts free from the confines of his own mind.
“Y’know, when I took in Qiqi in the first place it was because I wanted her immortality all to myself..” he sniffled, he now had a death grip on your hand.
“Ever since I found out she was a zombie, a part of me thought that meant maybe even…someone like me could still live on.”
“That girl means everything to me now, I love my little Qiqi, I don’t know how I can live with myself knowing I was so selfish.”
“I-it just feels like my desperation to live is just slowly corrupting me. It’s consuming my entire being. I feel just so messed up and twisted inside, t-this feeling I- I-”.
He sat up abruptly, freeing himself from your grasp, and desperately ran his shaky hands through his hair, his body now racked with anxiety.
“I’m just..I feel like I’m falling apart. I’m just so stupid so..so weak.” He gripped his bedsheets until his knuckles turned white.
“I just want to live, please I just want to live, please let me live” Baizhu begged through his sobs, not to you but seemingly to any archon that would hear him.
He looked at you through glossy eyes, glistening tears now running down his cheeks.
His shoulders shook and his handsome face was twisted into a grimace. His sorrowful stare made your own tears well up, your heartfelt heavy and your chest clenched.
You leaned forward to wrap your arms around him tightly. He wrapped trembling arms around you in return, his hands grasping at the back of your shirt as he cried into your chest. He didn’t say anything else as his body shook with his weeps, the only sounds escaping him were choked sobs.
You heard the anguish in his cries, a sound that echoed against the bedroom walls and reverberated through your entire being, a sound you would never forget.
It pained you. You rubbed circles into Baizhu’s back, hugging him impossibly tighter, your bodies flush against each other’s, maybe if you hugged him tight enough you would take his pain away. Baizhu was about to mutter an apology through his tears but you comforted him through your own words before he had the chance.
“You’re none of those things...”
You grabbed his shoulders and pushed him away from you so you could look him in the eyes.
Baizhu refused to meet your gaze, nervously twirling his now tangled green locks.
“I’m n-nothing more but a man on his deathbed” he croaked, his voice threatening to fade, he spat the last words with venom.
You shushed him as you shook your head and wiped his tears away with your thumb, stroking his cheek.
“When I look at you I see so much more than a sick man.”
He looked up at you and you two locked eyes. His eyes were like glistening pools of honey, shimmering with anticipation under the soft light streaming through the curtains.
“Baizhu..” you said softly.
Hearing his name on your lips laced with genuine care and adoration made Baizhu’s heart race.
“I wish I could say I know how you feel but I don’t, but what I can say is that you’re so much more than your illness, so much more.”
You took a deep breathe
”I’ve admired your work for so long, and I’m so grateful to be working under such an amazing man. I could tell that you put love into each and every one of your patients Baizhu, you’re the least selfish person I know.”
“You may not be able to cure your sickness but it doesn’t define you. You’ll live, Baizhu. You’ll live and I’ll make sure of it. Okay?”
You didn’t notice but your eyes began to well up.
He looked up at you and mustered a small smile through his tears, head nodding. He wiped his eyes as he slowly calmed down, his sobs turning into sniffles.
Not everything was magically solved but your words soothed him, and his muscles relaxed. Your hands fell from his shoulders to cup your hands around his.
“Thanks.” Baizhu muttered softly
“No, I’m serious you’re never dying on me and if you do I’ll come up to heaven myself and drag you back home.”
You feigned a serious tone that turned into a giggle that Baizhu returned with his own. The mingling of your guys’ laugh put his mind at ease.
You gave the doctor’s hand one last squeeze before letting go of his hands and making your way to his bathroom. You returned with some tissues and a cup of water that Baizhu gladly took. He gulped down the water and wiped the rest of his tears before collapsing onto bed.
“Thank you so much again, really. You’re too kind”
“I’m just glad you’re okay” you both shared a knowing grin at each other.
“Goodnight y/n…”
“G’night Baizhu”
He quickly drifted off to sleep, feeling safe in your presence.
He awoke the next morning and expected the previous night just to have been a dream, still stunned at what had happened.
But when he opened his eyes he was met with the sight of you asleep soundly slumped forward in your chair. Your head was pillowed by your folded arms that rested on the edge of the mattress.
A smile graced his features before drifting back to sleep, his mind no longer filled with nightmares of his end but with the dreams of being held in your arms, safe from the fears that usually plagued his mind.
For the first time in a long time, Baizhu felt hope.
Maybe it was after that night, your guys’ first moment of true vulnerability, when it all started or maybe even long before then, you still never knew for sure.
You don’t know why when you looked into his eyes you felt at home in their golden glow, you don’t know exactly when your feelings of admiration for the doctor slowly turned into love and adoration.
The years melded together as your fondness for him grew. You thought he wouldn’t ever return that love, he could never find the same safeness and warmth in you that you found in him.
So you tried to keep your distance from him for your own sake.
Maybe it was then, too lost in your focus, you didn’t notice. You didn’t notice how whenever you played with QiQi Baizhu admired the two of you with loving eyes, a small smile ghosting on his lips.
You didn’t notice the soft pink that always dusted his cheeks whenever he’d sneak a glance your way when he thought you weren’t looking.
You didn’t notice how his laugh rumbled throughout his chest, his nose scrunching, whenever you cracked a joke. His laugh seemingly warmed up the room and your cheeks.
You didn’t notice how you were the only one he trusted to take care of Changsheng whenever he was busy.
You didn’t notice the admiration that glowed in his eyes whenever he found the little white snake comfortably wrapped around you, sleeping peacefully.
You didn’t notice how his hand lingered on your shoulder for a second longer whenever he walked by you, or how he would lovingly ruffle your hair, or how his hand brushed up against yours whenever you two were working side by side.
You didn’t notice how he began to make you tea whenever you worked late nights, cream and two sugars, exactly how you liked.
You don’t know when Baizhu began to look at you with those beautiful eyes of his, filled with fondness and hope.
You didn't notice that he loved you too.
You may not have known when you started to develop feelings for him, but you knew exactly why.
Back then, to you, he was just the renowned (and pretty) owner of Bubu pharmacy. The sly herbalist that everyone in Liyue knew the name of.
Slowly over the years, he became more than Dr.Baizhu, he was your Baizhu. It was cliche to say but he was yours and you reveled in it.
The Baizhu that would make even the sickest children giggle with delight and a toothy grin as he spoke to them, crouched down on their level, with a beaming smile and soothing tones. The man that spent hours posting fliers all around Liyue about Qiqi, to ensure she would always return home safely.
The one who never left your side the week you got the flu, his gentle cold hands wrapped around your sickly ones.
It was the way that he poured care and concern into everything he did, in every one of his patients.
It was the sneaky grin he would flash to you as he would convince customers to buy his remedies.
It was the way he would always smell of herbs and tea, his scent surrounding you whenever he walked past.
It was the Baizhu who would be hunched over his desk, absorbed in his work and writing away in his journal, illuminated by the soft moonlight filtering through the window while you worked on your consults. His head rested on his palm, his fingers flexing every once in a while making the veins of his dainty hands twinge.
You would watch his pretty pink lips mouth words silently, his tongue wetting his lips every now and then. His beautiful green locks, gently tousled, fell in front of his eyes. The moonlight reflecting in his hair seemed to reflect all the stars in the sky as he tucked a loose strand of hair behind his ear absentmindedly.
His golden eyes, the golden eyes that were filled with the light of a thousand unspoken words whenever you stared into them, carefully reading each word through thick green eyelashes.
He was the man that treated Qiqi like his own daughter. You couldn’t help the warmth that flowed through your body whenever you caught Baizhu embracing Qiqi tightly, his face burying into her hair as he muttered ‘I love you’s through his giggles. Qiqi would always take his hugs with a straight face, but no matter how hard she tried to hide it, you could see her lean into Baizhu’s touch with her face twisted with a feeling of familiarity and longing for a family she can’t remember.
You couldn’t help but think of a life with Baizhu, with the little family you created, Changsheng and Qiqi being your guys’ two sweet little daughters and Gui as their loving uncle.
The pharmacy was like a family already, you’d find yourself with Baizhu in his kitchen, working perfectly in sync to cook dinner for the five of you and eating altogether after a long day of work, it all felt so domestic.
You imagined a warm afternoon, on a day off, where all of you would have a picnic, sitting upon a hill overlooking Liyue.
You would always try to shake your head free from these thoughts, always telling yourself it was wishful thinking. It made your heartache, an ache that filled your chest, leaving you empty and mourning for a life you couldn’t have.
All you wanted to do was run into his embrace and tell him everything, talking about everything and nothing at the same time. Loving him hurt.
It both made your heart flutter and squeeze it with a fist of despair. It pained you to know that these wishes were merely just wishes and nothing more.
You’d rather be his friend than nothing at all at least and you settled into that role, of just his friend.
But you no longer had to bury these thoughts.
With a lot of encouragement from a very annoyed Gui, frustrated having to watch you two dance around the very obvious feelings you've had for each other for 5 years, Baizhu asked you on a date.
Baizhu could still hear Gui saying “You’re both the smartest and stupidest man I know” to him.
It was during Liyue’s annual lantern rite, You, Qiqi, Gui, and Baizhu watched the glittering array of lanterns light up the night sky and reflect a warm glow against the crashing waves of the sea.
You 4 had just finished writing down your wishes on your lanterns as they became a part of the thousands of other lanterns, holding the wishes of Liyue.
Gui then elbowed Baizhu in the ribs and glared at the doctor. Baizhu narrowed his eyes at Gui, but Gui kept the intensity of his stare. They engaged in a silent argument.
‘Go on, tell them’ Gui raised his brows
‘Absolutely not’ Baizhu shook his head
‘Are you fucking kidding me?’ Gui glowered
The doctor scrunched his face in protest before taking the time to weigh his options. He gave in.
“…fine.” Baizhu pursed his lips
He huffed in defeat and Gui smirked at him.
“You’ll thank me later Dr.Baizhu” the pharmacist whispered before calling over Qiqi to come and venture to the food stalls with him. Gui left with Qiqi in his arms, as she questioned him if there was a coco goat stall, leaving you two alone.
You were oblivious to Gui and Baizhu’s little scuffle, still enraptured by the gorgeous view of the lanterns scattered across the night sky. You were so engrossed, your eyes lighting up with childlike wonder, Baizhu almost didn’t want to interrupt you.
He committed your features in the glow of the lanterns to memory before clearing his throat, grabbing your attention.
“Y’know what I wished for?” He fidgeted with the hem of his scarf, trying to swallow down his anxiety.
You just furrowed your brows at the man, “If you say your wish out loud it won’t come true, idiot”. Baizhu’s eyes wandered until he met yours.
“….Maybe this one will”
You opened your mouth to ask what he possibly meant by that but Baizhu beat you to it by asking a different question.
“I wished……” Baizhu’s hand went from his scarf to the back of his neck, before settling in his pockets as he tried to find his courage
“….to go on a date with you”. Your body froze at his words, and your brain suddenly felt fuzzy.
“…are you willing to make that wish come true?”
You just stared at him, caught completely off guard, your mouth slightly agape from surprise. Words seemed to die in your throat, and the only thing that came out of your slightly parted lips was silence.
Thoughts raced through your mind, hopelessly trying to make sense of the entire situation.
Did he just ask you on a date?
Baizhu?
Asking you?
On a date?
Baizhu your boss?
Baizhu the man you’ve had a crush on for years?
The Dr.Baizhu wants to go on a date with you.
Why?
Were you dreaming?
What’s even going on anymore??
As you were stuck in your own internal conflict Baizhu tried to search your face for any sign of anything at all, but found nothing. You only stood there, frozen in place. Regret instantly filled Baizhu as his heart dropped to his stomach and he began rapidly muttering excuses and apologies.
“My apologies that was completely unprofessional um, forget this ever happe-“
That snapped you out of your daze and you suddenly blurted out “I’D LOVE TO GO ON A DATE WITH YOU”. It came out louder than you had wanted but you were still in shock, and overexcited at the thought of going on a date with him. Baizhu stopped his blabbering and went silent, it was his turn to stare blankly at you.
“What.”
You cleared your throat, saying it again, at an acceptable volume now.
“I said I’d love to go on a date with you”
Baizhu’s face of surprise melted into a toothy grin that crinkled his eyes
“…So I guess you were wrong about wishes not coming true.”
“You’re the exception” you huffed and playfully punched his arm, earning you an amused chuckle.
You both smiled at each other and fell into silence as you both turned your attention back to the thousands of lanterns scattered among the shining stars in the night sky.
You hesitantly scooted over to Baizhu until you stood shoulder to shoulder and leaned against him, you relaxed once Baizhu eagerly leaned into your touch.
He then took the chance to admire you when he thought you weren’t looking but instead caught you staring at him. You would usually look away at lightning speed in embarrassment but tonight you held your glance.
You both saw the same adoration shine in each other’s eyes.
It seems both of your wishes have come true.
_________________________________________________
You were closing up the pharmacy for the day with Gui, both of you exhausted after a long workday. Qiqi sat in one of the chairs, swinging her feet, sipping on a box of coconut milk happily.
Gui was restocking the medicine shelf for tomorrow while you wiped down the counter. You tried to suppress a yawn as you struggled to keep your eyes open.
You heard the sound of a door creak behind you as a pair of strong arms wrapped around your waist.
“Tired, my dear?” Baizhu’s voice whispered softly as he pulled you against him, swaying the both of you gently.
You merely hummed in response as you turned your body towards him and pressed your head against his chest, your arms lazily wrapping around his torso.
Breathing deeply, you took in his comforting scent of herbs and cologne, sighing. Changsheng rested in her usual place on Baizhu’s shoulders, her tongue flicking across your cheek making you giggle.
“Qiqi wants hugs too” you heard Qiqi exclaim from behind you as she jumped down from her chair and bounded toward the two of you.
She wrapped her tiny arms around your legs and looked up at you and Baizhu. Gui just looked at Baizhu and gave him a warm smile at the domestic display, a smile that Baizhu gladly returned as he lazily rested his chin on his partner’s head and absentmindedly patted Qiqi’s head.
You must've been so tired you fell asleep in his arms standing up at that moment because the next thing you know you were being carried by a pair of soft arms to your shared bedroom.
Despite Baizhu’s illness he always somehow managed to muster the strength to carry you, no matter how difficult it was. The thought never fails to make you laugh in amusement as you imagine your boyfriend gathering as much strength as he could just so he can have you in his arms.
Your eyes fluttered open as you felt your body laid onto the soft material of the mattress and your shoes being taken off. Baizhu then muttered a soft good night to Changsheng as he laid the snake in her terrarium and then made his way to the bed.
“Go to sleep my dear” Baizhu whispered, leaning over you, his hot breath tickling your neck, making a shiver go down your spine.
“Mmmh...honey I still need to change”
He pulled the sheets over you in response and you let out a tiny groan of protest.
You were about to get up until you felt a dip in the bed beside you and you were pulled into Baizhu’s arms yet again. You decided not changing into sleepwear wasn’t the worst thing in the world.
You weren’t gonna get up anymore, not when your boyfriend had his arms wrapped around you, rubbing circles into your back. You felt so safe like this, completely surrounded by him.
“Yeah...okay I guess I’ll sleep” you murmured in defeat, which prompted Baizhu to give a soft chuckle that you felt the deep rumble of, your cheek pressed against his chest.
Not many people had the fortune to see Baizhu completely relaxed like this, his hair down in loose wavy strands, his usually roguish grin replaced with a contented closed lip smile, and his eyes filled with love and admiration.
No, this was for you, just for you.
You reached up around and ran your fingers through his long hair, Baizhu let a small sigh slip through his lips.
“C’mere” he muttered as he dragged you up and kissed you lovingly, he couldn’t help but smile against you.
Baizhu took your hands that were playing with his hair and intertwined your fingers with his. He pulled away and dove down, peppering sweet quick kisses and nuzzling against your neck making you giggle. He returned your giggle with one of his own and pulled you back into his chest.
“Ew, guys I’m right here” you both heard Changsheng hiss
“Shush you” Baizhu making the both of you chuckle.
“Good night Changsheng, love you!” you yelled.
You’re pretty sure snakes aren’t capable of rolling their eyes but Changsheng definitely did just that as she muttered a reluctant ‘I know….. love you too, goodnight y/n’.
“And good night to you too Dr.Baizhu” you whispered, looking up at your boyfriend and playfully tapping the tip of his nose. He scrunched his nose as he grinned.
“G’night dear, love you” he responded softly, warm breath fanning against your face as he pressed one last kiss against your hair.
You snuggled closer against his chest, safe and warm, the lull of sleep slowly overtaking you, “Love you too”.
You vaguely remember being forced awake by the cold air hitting your body as you realized you were no longer in your boyfriend’s embrace and the said boyfriend had hogged all the sheets, leaving you freezing.
You lightly smacked Baizhu’s back and he only grumbled in response, what a selfish ass. He was completely covered, only a peak of green hair peeking out through the sheets. So you threw your body onto Baizhu’s, arms tightly squeezing the man that was cocooned in the bedroom sheets.
You heard a small ‘oof’ from the mound of sheets before Baizhu let out a breathy laugh. He unrolled out of his blanket burrito to pull you back into his arms, which you gladly nuzzled into.
A game of footsie was briefly played, legs entangled and feet kicking at each other playfully before you drifted back to sleep.
The next time you awoke rays of sunshine peeking through the bedroom curtains hit your eyes and Baizhu’s arms were still wrapped snuggly around you.
“Morning” Baizhu rasped, his husk morning voice thick with sleep. You groaned, wanting to fall back into the sweet embrace of sleep. Your boyfriend patted your head affectionately, thoroughly amused at your morning grumpiness.
You drifted in and out of consciousness before Baizhu attacked you with a flurry of kisses, traveling from the top of your head to your neck.
“Wake up dear” he mumbled into your neck, hot breath against your skin. A whine that turned into a giggle escaped you.
“Okay okay, I’m awake” you looked up at Baizhu, pouting your lips.
“It’s a Saturday, why did you have to wake me up so early?”
“I wanna go out and do something”
“Like what?”
“Uhhhh” Baizhu’s mind went blank “I didn’t think that far...”
You scrunched your nose at him as if to say, ‘seriously?’. You were about to complain to him about wanting to sleep in today before the idea hit you.
A wish that from years ago that you used to push away, burying it in the abandoned corners of your mind, but now, it could finally be real. Baizhu saw your eyes suddenly light up and raised his brows in question.
“Let’s go on a picnic!”
