Endurance

Summary:

A poem on getting through the day, on biding one's time, on living in hiding, to achieve a dream.

Notes:

I don't own Merlin. C'est la vie.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Endurance

I'll breathe through pain, withstand my woe
I'll act both bright and gay,
I'll get up again after each blow,
To survive another day.

My troubles behind a smile, I'll hide,
I shall not yield a clue,
I'll remain firm at my prince's side,
Together we'll make it through.

My secrets, my magic, they shall not see,
I'll steal away each night,
I'll greet them all so cheerfully,
When I see the morning light.

If I can just run fast enough,
Outrun the terror and fear,
Avoid the chains, the magic cuffs,
They just might keep me near.

Another sunrise and sunset,
So slow and yet so quick,
I whisper magic words and yet -
He notices not my tricks.

I'll stand in the shade, avoid the sun,
I'll never reveal my scars,
I'll keep my secret, through tears and fun,
Live through the painful hours.

Endure the sorrow, endure the ache,
Let not your facade drop,
Just live for Magyk, for Albion's sake,
We might come out on top.

Someday, sometime, they'll know who I am,
They'll welcome my golden eyes,
But till then I go on with this threadbare sham,
Alone, I fall, and rise.

Notes:

The funny thing is, I didn't know what to call this one until now, when I was posting it and it had to have a name. Lucky it got posted then, or poor thing night have remained nameless forever. It that has not been named. Like the tags say, Merlin is just trying to live in peace (relative peace, this is Camelot), remain cheerful and unembittered. And what can one do but live through a bad day ? A poem about nothing, then. Maybe it shouldn't be part of this series, but doesn't it require strength to keep on ?
