Summary
The smoke curls and uncurls in the sliver of moonlight from the window. Like the little pieces of coloured glass will rearrange themselves into ever new patterns when you rotate the tube of a kaleidoscope, the image of the man in front of Thomas dissolves and then reforms in a startling new shape, still Richard, but all the certainties suddenly stripped away.
