Work Header

topsy turvy

Summary:

Sanji sighs in relief and leans into Law, face in the other man's neck. This helps with the world spinning, a bit.

"Ow. Thanks," he says, then, " Fuckers . Stabbed me in the back in the crowd."

Law's impressive glower became even more furious, if that was possible.

Notes:

Unbeta'd. Scenes in this series may be out of order/ missing connecting scenes while this is being posted for the october challenge.
Follows directly from here: trouble in toyland where sanji gets stabbed and mobbed in the street

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sanji hears footsteps on cobblestone, paced long but fast. A tall person, running towards him. The sound is clear in the street with people already fled or standing pushed into the corners to give the fight a wide berth.

" Room! " Law's voice rings out. " Shambles! "

White-blue magic slams into place over the mob. This time, they are the ones screaming as their bodies just come apart, flying as if a giant blade went through them. There is no blood at the perfect white-blue seam where their bodyparts are separated, but they scream and a couple with their tongues still intact beg.

There is no blood, until suddenly there is. The screaming cuts off, and it rains blood.

The crowd doesn't dare to make a sound now, standing silent witness. Even the children don't cry. The only noise is Law's boots, stepping his wet and squishy way over to where Sanji was slowly sitting up.

"Prince," Law says. He crouches by Sanji and puts an arm around his waist, lifting him slightly. Sanji exhales hard and Law looks to see the stab wound. He does something which helps, Sanji can't see what, and then he adjusts his hold on Sanji, higher, below his arms.

They stagger to their feet, slipping in the bloody street.

Standing makes the world spin. The blue sky, the colourful shops, the bloody street, the silent crowd. All of it fades in the corners, leaving only Law's face in the centre, very close and frowning.

Sanji shoves his hands into Law's face. The bracelets . He taps one with the fingers of his other hand, leaving bloody fingerprints on the metal. Law frowns, but he gets the meaning. He takes Sanji's hands, and they separate from his wrists. Law catches the bracelets and shoves them into his coat, then reattaches Sanji's hands.

Sanji sighs in relief and leans into Law, face in the other man's neck. This helps with the world spinning, a bit.

"Ow. Thanks," he says, then, " Fuckers . Stabbed me in the back in the crowd."

Law's impressive glower became even more furious, if that was possible.

"Won't happen again," he promised.

"S'fine," Sanji said. "Worst part was not being able to give them a good insult with the ass-kicking." His head felt fuzzy, like cotton. Spinning cotton, like cotton candy, but bad. The edges of his vision pressed in again and he sways.

Law's arms both wrap around him, carefully avoiding the stab wound.

"I'm fine," Sanji says.

"... sure," Law replied.

"I'm fine ," Sanji repeated. He pushed away from Law.

The world blinks.

He blinks.

His chest is against Law's. He's looking at Law's collarbones, exposed in the wide opening of his shirt, inked with black. He looks up to Law's face, and the other man is clearly torn between frowning and laughing, settling somewhere in the region of ' I told you so ' without having actually said 'I told you so'.

Sanji points right between Law's bright golden eyes.

"You have no room to gloat," Sanji says, very seriously. "I got more of them than you."

Law's taken aback expression is the last thing he sees before the edges come in and the world blinks out again.
