A Scissor, Maybe A Pair

Summary:

Of course, King-Lu wants to cut corners on barbers

Notes:

The title is taken from Cut My Hair by Big Thief

Work Text:

“Alright,” King-Lu said, lowering the scissors and making a step back to better see the result.
Cookie looked at him, uncertain.
“You know, I can always just shave it all off,” he gently suggested.
“No-no-no, everything’s great,” King-Lu assured him. “The moustache could be shorter, but I won’t risk it.”
He squinted once again, nodded with satisfaction and started looking around, trying to remember where he should put the scissors. Cookie waited for a minute and cleared his throat.
“Oh, sorry,” King-Lu gasped and removed the towel from around Cookie’s neck, slowly so as not to scatter sheared off bits of hair.
Cookie sighed with relief, stretched and carefully touched his now shorter beard.
“Feels even.”
“It is even. I know what I’m doing,” King-Lu grunted in make-believe, but then immediately smiled wide to reassure Cookie it was just a joke.
“It’s your turn now,” Cookie said, standing up and picking up the scissors.
King-Lu took his place and let his friend place the towel on his back and shoulders.
“It would be easier if we had a mirror,” Cookie mused, cutting the hair at King-Lu’s nape.
"I trust you."
Cookie held his breath for a couple of seconds.
"I didn't mean that," he said. "It just would be nice to have nice things."
King-Lu turned around rapidly, making the towel fall to the floor.
"We will have every nice thing you'll ever want. I promise."
A smile climbed up Cookie's cheek.
"Well, if you promise…" he whispered as slyly as his soft voice would allow and kissed King-Lu, surprisingly ignoring the mess they made.
"Lucky you," he said after a while, quietly catching his breath, "you almost don't have to trim your beard."
"Secret Chinese recipe," King-Lu laughed.
"The hairs now are all over the floor," Cookie remembered and made a move towards the closet, but King-Lu jumped up right before and stopped him with his hand.
"Let me take the broom this time," he said and smiled again.
