Work Text:
The boys are hanging out in the Cave, a distance away from Bruce, who is diligently typing away at a case file. Jason is still new to the family and is navigating life as Bruce Wayne’s new kid. He did not realize that he was gaining two older brothers. And two fathers. And a grandfather. Jason wondered what the hell his life had become. The thought intensifies as he watches Dick use Connor as a jungle-gym. “That seriously doesn’t bother you?” Jason questions.
“Nope,” Connor replies in a bored tone. He allows Dick to reposition his arm to his liking. “It makes him happy, so whatever.”
“Oooookaaaaay,” Jason replies, skeptically. He is quiet for a few minutes before asking, “So, what’s with your uniform design? It’s literally just a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Clark has a full uniform.”
Dick cackles gleefully and plops on the training mat next to Jason. Connor carefully settles on an adjacent mat. “I told you that your uniform needs an update, Kon.”
Connor rolls his eyes, “I haven’t thought of a look I like yet.”
“What if we help you design it?” Jason suggests. He pauses and then continues, “Well, what if I help you design it? Dick can stay far away from it.”
“Heeeey!” Dick complains, “My uniform is perfectly fine.” Bruce snorts and continues to type. Dick whips around to look at his father, “You take that back!” he yells.
“I had to veto short shorts,” Bruce retorts.
Jason smothers his laugh into a cough. Dick continues to glare at Bruce’s back. “So, about that uniform design?” Jason asks Connor, “How about it?”
Connor shrugs, “Sure. I just don’t want to be a carbon copy of Dad, is all.” Dick cheers and rushes off to gather drawing supplies. He appears moments later with his arms full of sketchbooks and packs of professional colored pencils. Two hours later, the boys look at their final design. “It’s so awesome,” Connor smiles at his brothers.
Jason smiles smugly in return, “I told you that you needed an updated look. C’mon, let’s go show Alfie and see if it will work.” The boys tromp up the stairs into the Manor and all but run to the kitchen. “Alfie!” Jason cheers, “Connor has a uniform design to show you.”
Alfred smiles indulgently at his boys and takes the offered sketchbook. He considers the look for several minutes before nodding and replying, “Very well done, young masters.”
“So we can do it?” Connor asks in excitement.
“Can you do what?” Clark asks as he sweeps into the room, “Hello Alfred.”
“Hello, Master Clark,” Alfred nods at Clark in return. “The boys have come up with a uniform design for Master Connor.” He hands the sketchbook over to Clark.
Clark beams at the design, “I’m so happy for you, Kon. Alfred and I should be able to make it with Kryptonian grade material. Even if it does remind me of the ‘90s,” Clark replies teasingly.
Connor shrugs, “I think it’s awesome.”
Clark ruffles Connor’s hair, “So long as you like it, kiddo. It’s better than the first design I suggested to Ma. And no, I won’t be telling you any more than that.” Clark grins at the three matching faces of disappointment.
“Off with you lot, I have dinner to complete and you, Master Clark, have a bat to remove from his cave. Boys, go finish your homework you have been neglecting.” Alfred orders his family around. Clark grins as he zooms off to pull Bruce away from the case reports. The boys grumble but comply with Alfred’s demands. And Alfred? Alfred happily returns to his cooking after closing the sketchbook and stowing it safely away in a drawer for later reference.
