Work Text:

Sunny drags his two braincells into Headspace. He couldn't believe the scene he just saw.

Omori and Stranger,

STRANGER, OF ALL PEOPLE, making out. To be honest, he wasn't fully surprised. Basil was always in his mind, so it made sense for Basil's alter-ego to eventually show up. But Sunny felt exasperated at the VERY THOUGHT that both Omori and Stranger being lovey-dovey to each other, despite despising each other earlier?

What has the world come to?

Either way, Sunny tugs Omori's bright red bow and Stranger's dark black vest as he drags them both into Headspace. To be frank, Sunny did find the whole situation funny, however…

Ah, who was he kidding?

It was hilarious AND embarrassing.

Sunny continues to chuckle.

"How does something like this even happen?" He asks no one in particular.

"Hey, don't blame me, Stranger just suddenly showed up and made me feel better." Omori replies.

"I actually showed up from the blue with no rhyme or reason...I comforted him after seeing his circumstances."

Stranger squeezes Omori's cheeks.

"No cute boi such as this should be as sad as he was!"

Omori pushes Stranger's hands off his cheeks, laughing.

"Thanks again for that, Strangie."

"Y-you're welcome, Omo." He replies, blushing.

Sunny raises both of the boys into the air, making them look at his devious little smile.

"Oh my God, quit it you lovebirds!"

Omori and Stranger only blush and laugh. Sunny joins in on the laughter too.

The three return to Headspace. They travel around for a bit, eventually running into Mari.

"Oh, Sunny! Didn't expect to see you back here!"

Mari runs up and hugs Sunny tightly. She ruffles his hair.

"How's my little brother doin'?"

"I'm doing great sis. Uh, I brought friends."

He lets go of Omori's bow and Stranger's vest, dropping the two of them onto the ground. They both awkwardly wave at Mari, making her laugh.

"Howdy, lovebirds. When's the wedding?"

"December 25, 2021." Omori states, smugly. Stranger blushes and looks at Omori as though he's a psychopath.

"WHAT?!"

Everyone chuckles with the exception of Stranger, who's blushing hard enough to make his mouth visible.

"Anywho, I've been meaning to talk to you, Sunny. Come sit on the Picnic Blanket with me. Omo, Stranger, you guys stay behind for now.

Mari walks and sits on the Picnic Blanket. Sunny looks at Omori and Stranger.

"Alright you two. I'll just leave you here. Omori, please don't commit arson while I'm gone."

Omori suddenly holds a flint and steel in his hands. He has a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"No promises!"

Stranger snatches the flint and steel out of Omori's hands, pushing Omori's face so he can't get them back.

"Don't worry, Sunny!" Stranger says.

"I'll keep him in check."

Sunny smiles and nods to Stranger before running to the Picnic Blanket. He sits across from Mari.

"Alright, what did you want to talk about, Mari?"

"It's...a bit important, Sunny. I...have a confession to make."

Sunny looks at Mari, concerned.

"It's not bad, is it?" He asks, worried.

Mari shakes her head at a rapid speed.

"Oh, no no no! Quite the opposite in fact!"

"Well then, what is it?" He asks, skeptical.

"Well, I don't know how to say this, but…

I'm Mari."

Sunny looked at Mari, confused.

Mari is...Mari? He laughs.

"Well you certainly are Mari, Mari."

Mari looks at Sunny sternly.

"No...Sunny. Seriously. I'm Mari."

Sunny looks more confused than ever.

"...Elaborate."

"Sunny, I. Am. Mari. Your older sister.

Sunny is silent.

"The same sister that you killed on complete accident. The one who pushed you too hard. The one that went to Heaven, and now lives here in your dreams."

...Oh. That Mari.

Sunny's eyes widen. No...no way that was Mari. It can't be.

"S-so you're telling me that you're…?"

Mari smiles.

"Hello again, little brother."

Sunny couldn't hold back his tears and joy.

"Mari…

MARI!!"

Sunny hugs his older sister as tight as he possibly could. The purple colors from Headspace drain from Mari, being replaced by the realistic colors of Sunny. Sunny sobs loudly. Mari simply holds and consoles him. She's starting to cry as well.

"M-M...Mari…!"

"Shhhhh...there there little brother. There there."

"I-I'm so sorry…!"

"No no...I should be apologizing. I-I pushed you t-t-too hard, little brother. Stupid...perf-perfectionism…"

The siblings cry loudly. They were finally reunited after so long.

Their hug lasted for a while. They finally let go of the hug, wiping tears off the other's face.

"Oh dear, oh me…" Mari says, trying to catch her breath.

Sunny couldn't stop sniffling.

"Shhh Shhh Shhhhh…"

Mari rubs her brother's back softly.

"I-it's okay, little brother. You're...you're not dreaming. W-well you are, b-but you get my point. A-are you o-ok-okay?"

Sunny nods.

"Y-yeah...I…"

Sunny sniffles once more.

"I...guess I just have a lot of questions now."

Mari sniffles yet again. Her sniffles last for a while whenever she cries.

"A-ask away."

Sunny asked her many questions.

Can ghosts age?

How did she get here?

Do ghosts come back to life?

How long has she been here?

Mari answered all of them.

"Ghosts do indeed age. We still have our birthdays and all that. Which means I'm still the older sibling!" She said, teasing her younger sibling.

Sunny rolled his eyes as Mari laughs.

"To answer your other questions, I was just...transported here one day. I don't remember how."

"Headspace Mari existed before then. Were there any changes?"

"Aside from the fact I became barefoot like everyone else in Headspace? N o p e."

"Hmm."

"I've heard that ghosts CAN come back to life. Maybe they're repurposed, or something like that."

"I hope you don't get repurposed…"

"Don't worry, I'll make sure I won't, little brother! To answer your last question, I've been here for a whole...year or two, I believe?"

"Wow. You've been here for a while."

Mari chuckles.

"I have. And before you ask."

Mari gets up, runs to a tree and then runs back to the Picnic Blanket.

"My bad knee's healed up! Thank God…"

Seeing that his sister can run made Sunny smile. Speaking of which, Mari sits back down on the Picnic Blanket.

"So, yeah. I'm in your mind now, Sunny. How long I'm going to be in here, I have NO clue. However, I want to be brought back to life somehow. I wanna see Hero again…"

"Maybe you will soon." Sunny says, placing his hand on her shoulder to reassure her.

"Here's to hoping."

A realization comes to Sunny.

"Oh! Omori and Stranger! I forgot about them…"

"How do you forget your own braincells?" Mari chuckles.

"Good question."

"Uhh."

Sunny and Mari jump in surprise as they see Omori and Stranger, who…

Just straight up spawned in front of them?!

"...How long have you two been here?" Mari asks.

"Long enough to hear the important stuff." Stranger replies.

"In any case, Mari, allow me to reintroduce you to at least...some realm of living."

Mari chuckles at Stranger.

"Thanks, Stranger. Oh, and Omori…"

Mari walks up to Omori with stern, yet passive-aggressive look on her face. Omori looks scared.

"Hurt my brother again, and I'll (guh-hyucking) kill you, okay~?"

Omori looks very scared. Sunny pulls Mari back.

"Cool it, sis! Omori's changed for the better, I swear."

Mari looks at Omori, who's smiling warmly at her, a hint of nervousness on his face. Mari quickly warms up to him, realizing he has truly changed.

"Okay...you're right."

"Now sister, what do we say when we wrong someone?"

"...Sorry, Omori."

Omori pats Mari's head softly.

"It's okay, Mari! I don't blame you…"

After many more headpats from Sunny, Omori, and Stranger, the four eat some Lunch from the Picnic Blanket.

"How many sandwiches did you put in there?" Omori asked.

"Enough to nourish my little brother and then some!" Mari replies, patting Sunny's head.

"I swear, you have an infinite amount of food in there…"

"It is rather strange…" Stranger says.

"But nonetheless, the sandwiches are great!"

"You're not wrong…"

Moments later, they all have eaten. They suddenly feel a wave of sleepiness take over them.

Omori and Stranger cuddle up with each other and are out like a light, while Sunny lays on Mari's lap as they both begin to fall asleep too.

Mari yawns.

"Okay little brother...I'm heading in."

Silence.

"Little brother? Sunny??"

Mari hears the soft snores of a certain someone. She looks at her lap to see Sunny asleep. She smiles. She takes the Picnic Blanket and puts it on Sunny, giving him warmth. She pats Sunny's head softly and slowly as they both fall asleep.

"Good Night, Sunny...sleep well, little brother."

The two end up falling asleep, both having smiles on their faces.

[The End.]
