"Right!" Diego de Vil clambered onto a bench and stood atop it, waving his arms. "Everybody, listen up! I have something to say!"
The other twenty or so young villains clustered around, muttering curiously to each other.
"What do you think you are doing?" Gaston, the gym coach, demanded.
"I'm giving everyone an ultimatum," Diego explained. "We can do sports or whatever later."
"We'll do it now, you little upstart-" Gaston snarled, but Diego ignored him.
"Right!" the third-eldest de Vil child said again. "All of you, you know me and my brother and my cousins, and you know we all have black-and-white hair."
"Skunk hair," someone in the back snickered, and a few other kids laughed.
"Exactly!" Diego pointed at the culprit; Clay Clayton. "That is exactly what I am talking about! Always, everyone's always laughed at us and made fun of us for our hair!"
"It's the Isle," Anthony Tremaine called. "What did you expect?" The tall, pale boy stood with his arms folded, glaring sullenly at everything, as he usually did unless one of his sisters or cousins were around.
"My point!" Diego said. "My point is that we won't have it! We won't put up with it anymore. Either all of you never ridicule our hair again, or-"
"Or what?" Ginny Gothel demanded, twisting a strand of her dark hair around an index finger.
"Or else this!" Diego made his right hand into a fist and slammed it into his left palm.
Nothing happened.
Looking extremely annoyed, Diego turned to the side and called, "Well?"
Meanwhile, outside the Dragon Hall school gym:
"Five minutes, I said," Ivy de Vil muttered to herself as she weaved wires across each other, her finger moving nimbly. "A five-minute speech to distract them! That's all I wanted! He calls that five minutes? That was barely two!"
"Give him a break," Hunter, Diego's older brother, said from his spot clinging to one of the stone gargoyles jutting out from the building as he attached something to it. "It's hard to keep that lot satisfied for long."
"He's the only one of us who got higher than a C in Evil Monologues!" Ivy grumbled.
"I don't think any of them have actually noticed us anyway," Hunter said placatingly.
Carlos ran up to Ivy. "I've finished attaching the fuses on the other side of the building," he said breathlessly. The youngest de Vil was small but fast and nimble, which made him a good candidate for doing jobs that needed to be finished quickly and discreetly, and that were also somewhat dangerous.
"Okay, good," Ivy said. "Hunter-"
Hunter nodded and went to the window to signal Diego.
"Now!" Ivy said.
She pulled a matchbox out of her pocket and struck one, taking a moment to admire the flame before touching the tip of the match to a single fuse, which looked basically like a big candle wick.
The flame spread down it, to the next one.
And the next, and the next, until the building was covered in what looked like a spiderweb of flame, the fuses that the de Vil had spent the past few days attaching to the walls alight in fire, yellow and orange with hints of blue. It looked almost beautiful.
Then the first spark hit the first wire.
Carlos, who was smarter in academics than all of them (possibly all of them combined) had spent a week calculating the exact placement of wires, where to put what, and how, so that the walls of the building would collapse but with very little damage to whatever was inside it. Namely, their classmates.
And so it was that with an earth-shattering boom, the walls of the Dragon Hall school gym simply...disintegrated.
Ivy, Hunter, Diego, and Carlos all received top marks in Evil Schemes, Threatening, Vandalism, and Endangerment. On Yen Sid's insistence, they also received detention for the widespread destruction of school property and massive endangerment of life therein, although Carlos was the only one who actually showed up.
