-Linda-
“Having fun?” Amenadiel asked with a smile as they walked down the snowy path.
“Definitely,” Linda replied, skipping ahead a little on the trail. “This really was a great idea. I’m surprised you got Maze to agree to take Charlie for 10 days while we’re out here, in the mountains. Especially this close to Christmas.”
“We’ve both been working so hard, especially you. And we both know Maze adores Charlie as much as Trixie. And I have to admit, I got a great deal on the rental because of how close it is to the holidays.”
“Very true,” she said with a smile, falling back into step next to him.
He watched how she rubbed at her arms, shivering from the cold.
“You ok?” he asked.
“I’m cold,” she said, her teeth chattering a little. “Guess I didn’t pack warm enough.”
“Here,” Amenadiel said, shrugging out of the coat he was wearing. “Have my jacket. The cold doesn’t bother me that much.”
“Thank you,” Linda told him, pulling the jacket closed. The soft lining combined with the trapped body heat felt great. “Ah. Much better.”
Amenadiel put his arm around her waist, continuing down the quiet trail as the snow fell gently. The trail looped around, back to their rental cabin. Once they were inside, he went over and got the fireplace lit. Linda shrugged out of his jacket, hanging it up. She settled next to him on the fur rug in front of the fireplace, watching the flames.
“Linda...you know how much you mean to me, right?” he asked.
“I do,” she sighed, making him look at her. She kissed him, making him smile. “I love you too.”
“For a long time,” he added. “When I proposed when you were pregnant with Charlie...it wasn’t just about what I thought I should do.” She teared up a little as he stroked her cheek. “I’ve loved you since before you found out you were pregnant. It hurt more than I care to admit when you turned me down.”
“I’m so sorry I did that to you,” she said. “You must think I’m…”
“I could never think that about you,” he interrupted. “I love you.” Leaning to the right, he pulled something from his pocket. She couldn’t help but laugh when she saw a familiar little black box in his hand as he eased back into a sitting position. “And I hope this time will go better.”
He opened it to show her the diamond ring he’d bought nearly two years ago.
“Linda, you’ve made me happier than I could ever have imagined. And I want us to be more than just parents. I want to be your husband and share a life with you. Will you marry me this time?”
“I will,” she said with a smile, holding her hand out to him. The ring went on effortlessly. “I love you too, Amenadiel.”
He kissed her before pulling her onto his lap, holding her close.
“Shall we take this to our bedroom?” he asked, kissing her jaw while his hands ran up her sides.
“In a minute,” she said with a smile. “For now, I just want to sit here with you.”
“Gladly,” he said, watching the fire with her.
The End
