As soon as the door clicked open and Scaramouche peered into the house, a bundle of fluff dove at him and knocked him down. The man, startled, charged up his vision before processing the puppy on him, licking his face with excited huffs and a wagging tail. Groaning, he managed to push the furry creature off of him enough to sit up, before lifting his gaze to the doorway.
Childe stood there, leaning on the doorway with crossed arms and an easygoing grin. Scaramouche rolled his eyes and looked back at the puppy, her medium coat matching Childe’s hair in color and softness — Scaramouche would know, he’d been around the little thing enough. She was just as cheerful and attention-seeking as Childe too, and since adopting the dog, Scaramouche claimed Childe was a “golden retriever boyfriend”, whatever that meant.
Even if he pretended to hate the puppy’s attention, the barely-hidden smile Scara held on his face as she licked his hand — which had been held out in a half-hearted attempt to keep her from clambering into his lap again — gave it all way. Childe laughed softly to himself, ignoring the glare he received, and called the puppy back by her name (which happened to be “Natsu”, short for one of Childe’s favorite Japanese words) and a tap on his thigh.
Natsu ran over to him happily, tail still wagging, though Childe paid no mind. Instead, he held a hand out to help Scaramouche up, rolling his eyes when the man refused and insisted upon getting himself up. He hooked his arm around Scaramouche’s waist and pulled the much shorter man close as a result, having to crane his neck down just to press a kiss to Scaramouche’s forehead.
“Welcome home, love,” Childe murmured, resting his other hand on Scaramouche’s neck, just under his hair. “I missed you.”
Scaramouche scowled and squirmed away from the other, stomping inside and ignoring Childe’s playfully offended gasp. He would wait for Childe upstairs, where they and Natsu could cuddle properly, but for now he had a reputation to keep. No reputation could hide the flush on his cheeks and the happy look in his eyes, though.
Hopefully that look was allowed to last.
