The Last Straw

Summary:

Blowtorch finally confronts Singewing over his treatment of Cometstorm, Starblaze, and Solarstrike leading to them fleeing Vos.

Chapter Text

Singewing walked confidently into Blowtorch’s office with energon leaking from rather deep scratch marks on his left hand.

“Singewing, what did you do this time,” Blowtorch said, trying to hide his anger at the seeker upon noticing Singewings hand.

“Nothing too crazy. I was just performing a simple reflex test on Solarblaze. Unfortunately Cometstorm barged in before I could even start and scratched up my hand. That brat,” Singewing ranted as Blowtorch tended to the wound.

“You were going to hit Solarblaze,” Blowtorch yelled, stopping what he was doing.

“What part of reflex test do you not understand,” Singewing said, slightly annoyed.

“But she's your sparkling and is honestly one of the sweetest sparklings I’ve ever met,” Blowtorch said trying to calm himself down as he started to tend to the wound again.

“She is not sparkling and neither are her siblings; they are simply experiments. Ones that I should have probably never done. I know you're a doctor who cares deeply about his patients but you know why I hired you,” Singewing said standing up, his voice sounding incredibly bitter.

“I honestly can’t believe I thought so highly of you. You know why I agreed to help you? I thought that what you were doing was for a good reason. I thought you wanted Cometstorm, Slarblaze, and Solarstrike to be able to protect each other better than any other seekers so they wouldn’t suffer like you had. Yet as time marches on I see the real reason for your experiment. You just wanted to see if it was possible and in the process you’ve made this young trine suffer more than you ever have. I will agree that combining sparkeater CNA with that of sparklings was probably a bad idea but Cometstorm, Starblaze, and Solarstrike are still sparklings and deserve to be loved,” Blowtorch said pacing around the room.

“Shut up you useless grounder son of a glitch! Don’t you dare compare my suffering to the suffering of those things. I would think that after living in Vos for so long you would know better. You have no idea what it’s like to lose trinemates. It’s like losing a part of yourself. Your spark never feels whole again. On top of losing my trinemates I lost my wings on the very same day. I was this close to paying another seeker to kill me just to escape the pain. I didn’t though. I decided I should suffer for my failings and being a seeker who is unable to fly is a fate worse than death. That’s why I don’t go out much. Every time I leave my home the other seekers keep their distance, mocking me and throwing insults at me like there's no tomorrow. The scrap that I’ve gone through is the worst and to compare my pain to anyone else is just fragging impossible,” Singewing yelled while the charred remains of his wings moved upwards with a slightly pained grimace on his face.

“I understand why you feel this way but I think you're reflecting your pain at your sparklings and they are your sparklings. No mater how much you claim otherwise. That’s why I think it’s best that they leave Vos with me,” Blowtorch said, trying not to tremble.

“You will do no such thing. They are my life’s work, the one successful thing I’ve done since I failed my siblings. These experiments should stay here and besides I haven’t collected enough data to publish anything on them yet,” Singewing said as the remains of his wings moved slowly downwards.

“I will take them away. They deserve a place where they can be safe and loved without the constant threat of harm over their heads. I truly wish it didn’t have to be this way,” Blowtorch said, stepping towards the door.

“Try it and I will beat you up so badly that you will go into stasis lock and then toss your body to those things. I do believe all three of them will need to eat at least one spark in the coming astrocycles,” Singewing threatened while blocking the door.

“They would never eat my spark. They may be part sparkeater but they look after those they care about or did you forget what happened to Crossflare when he tried to kill me,” Blowtorch said, keeping his voice steady.

“Are you sure you want to test that theory,” Singwing asked, stepping out the door.

“I would do anything to help make sure Cometstorm, Starblaze, and Solarstrike are safe. Especially Starblaze, that poor sweet sparkling cares too much about others and if she stays here I fear her death would come soon. If I die trying, so be it. May Primus protect me and them,” Singwing said quietly as the door closed, planning how he would save them form Singewing's uncaring care.
