They were all in a break room when suddenly
“Do you think Shaun’s gay?”
Claire spat out her drink in surprise. Jared’s eyebrows shot up to his forehead and Neil froze in the middle of writing something. Morgan was unfazed.
“W-why do you ask?” Claire asked Doctor Leon, the man who had asked if they thought Shaun was gay.
“He’s pretty cute I want to ask him out” he replied.
Jared snorted “Even if he was gay he wouldn’t accept your offer” he said as poured himself a cup of coffee. “He’s said before that he doesn’t want love” he warned.
“I bet I could change that” Leon said determined. Jared shrugged “well don’t be disappointed if he says no”
“Wait but your not even sure he’s into men” Claire reminded.
“Shaun looks like almost every twink I’ve seen I’m pretty sure he’s gay” Morgan commented.
“Morgan!” Claire scolded “you can’t just assume someone’s sexuality based on stereotypes”
“But I’m right aren’t I?” Morgan defended.
Leon clasped his hands and announced “You know what let’s make a bet”
This piqued everyone including Neil’s attention. “What are we betting on?” Audrey asked as she entered the room.
“Well Dr. Lim we’re going to bet on whether Shaun is gay or straight” Leon told her.
“Oh then I’ll bet on him being straight” Audrey said as she filled a cup of coffee. “How much are we betting?” She asked before drinking her coffee.
“I don’t know like 10 dollars I guess” Leon shrugged.
Audrey took out her wallet and handed him 10 dollars “I think he’s straight”
Leon grabbed an empty jar that once held snacks threw out anything that remained in it and held it in front of Audrey for her to put the money in.
“I’m sure he’s gay” Morgan said as she put in her 10 dollars.
While Claire looked for a ten in her wallet she explained “Shaun used to talk about lea a lot” when she found it Leon walked closer to her and held the jar toward her “I think he had a crush on her” she put it in “so he’s probably straight”
“Yeah but Shaun also talks about men he’s met a lot so you can’t confirm he’s straight just because he told you about one woman” Jared said as he dropped his money into the jar “plus what Morgan said so I think he’s gay”
“You know it’s not exactly appropriate for people to bet on their coworker’s sexuality” Neil commented surprising everyone since they assumed he would ignore them.
“Well what about you Neil? Do you think he’s attracted to men or women?” Audrey asked Neil. “Oh no no I’m not apart of your highschool gossip” Neil replied. Audrey smirked “you sure you’re not curious about your endearing resident’s sexuality? Not at all?”
Don’t fall for it Neil thought. The proceeded to slowly reach into his wallet and throw a ten dollar bill into the jar “I think he’s gay” fuck he thought.
“Isn’t it interesting that the men voted for Shaun being gay and the women voted him being straight” Morgan said smirking. “Do you all have a crush on him or something?” She teased.
Before anyone could reply Shaun entered the room. “Good afternoon” he greeted. Claire and Jared greeted him back with a smile, Audrey nodded at him, Neil waved in his direction his eyes glued to the screen of his phone where he was reading something, Morgan just hummed in acknowledgement and Leon stuttered a “hello, Shaun”.
Shaun had a small smile as he replied “hi Leon, how are you?” He walked up to that man as beamed against the counter slightly. “I’ve been good” Leon replied smiling brightly. They started talking about a book they both liked.
The others in the room watched their interaction. “How are supposed to find out who wins the bet?” Claire whispered to Jared. “We could base it on how he interacts with others” Jared replied “pretty sure he’s gay look at how he talks to Leon” Claire looked at them closely to see what Jared was talking about.
At first glance it wouldn’t look like anything out of the ordinary. But there were a few very minor details.
Shaun was had a small smile. Barely there but if you look closely you could see it. Then the more obvious detail was the pink tint on his cheeks.
Butttt that could have been because he was embarrassed. Leon was giggling as Shaun blushed so it could also mean that he was embarrassed and wasn’t actually feeling any romantic emotions.
“It could also mean he’s embarrassed” Claire replied.
Neil got up “break time’s over” he said looking at his residents “get to work” he walked out.
Everyone else except Dr. Lim left as well while two nurses entered the room.
