For weeks now, he’d swung wildly between relief at finally seeing another medallion — proof that one of his own kind had found him at last — and terror at the sight of a snarling wolf’s head — the symbol of his people’s enemy.

     

    ”Wolf. Not safe. He’ll hurt you. Hateful. Terrible. Kill him, before he can hurt you!”

     

    They move North, and Kiyan fights with the thing inside his head.
