Summary
It’s strange, in a sense. Jason’s story begins on the street; it begins with scraped knuckles and empty bottles and the lingering smell of rot.
Robin’s story begins with a circus. As tight-lipped as Bruce can be, he recounts that tale like gospel, like he has to cling to it to tell up from down. And like a good little soldier, a good son, Jason etches it into his memory. Some days, he thinks it might as well be his own; every soft word Bruce has for him, every warm meal Alfred prepares feels like the unquestionable continuation of good times past. As if that’s how it’s always been. On some days, he believes his story begins with the circus too; it makes him feel like half a stranger in his own skin.
