Work Text:
Charles always worried about his wife. She dived headfirst into dangerous situations with no regard for her life. Initially, he thought her to be selfless but when he asked he realised she was repenting her sins through action.
He felt her slip from his mind when she lost consciousness. Charles had never felt panic like it before in his life and he prayed that he never would again. His wife was the most important thing. This was the woman he wanted a future with, the one he wanted to have children with, the one he wanted to die with but now it seemed like he would spend his life without her,
More and more, she had been losing consciousness and it was taking longer and longer for her to wake. His trying was coming apart as she grew weaker. She was pushing herself to be better and her body had finally begun to crack under the immense amount of pressure it was under.
----
"Why do you push yourself so hard, my love?" Charles had asked as he wheeled himself into one of the training rooms in the X Mansion.
"I need to be better." (Y/N) had said as if it was obvious, continuing to punch the punching bag as she spoke
Charles sighed "You have already honed your mutation completely. You train the others to do the same. Your skills are impeccable, you never fail but if you continue pushing yourself too far, I fear..."
"You fear what Charles?"
"I fear that you just won't lose the fight, (Y/N). You will lose yourself, and I, in turn, will lose you."
----
So Charles waited, and he would continue to wait, for when (Y/N) decided she was ready to face her issues, and Charles would wait for her until she was his (Y/N) again.
