Chapter Text

The constant failing at the gauntlet and Nyxly’s current winning streak left Kara restless. Unable to do anything make her feel helpless. She wanders around the Tower, still high on adrenaline. A workout doesn’t sound appealing, it wouldn’t suffice to wipe the sour feeling of the day. When she glances over the memory crystal holding Vita, she smiles. There was definitely something – someone – that left her feeling empowered throughout the awful day. She lingers using her ability to listen for Lena. There is a steady, but nervous heartbeat down in the lab she is drawn to.

On swift, but not superspeed feet she heads into Lena’s new territory. Knowing that Lena now plays such an integral part of their group warms her hearts, and the hug they shared without any awkwardness shed a new light of hope. They seemingly mended their rift, which fills her with happiness but maybe there is something more. Lena is somehow different in her interactions. On one hand more timid, even on the verge of vulnerable and on the other her eyes, her expression is often more open than before, her eyes trying to convey more emotion.

Lena drives herself into a deep analysis of Kara’s vitals to look for anything that’s beyond their current knowledge to find a straw that she can hold onto and say, there is no magical bond, it’s just some sort of energy that can perfectly be explained by science. On her twelfth failed test, she flings a pen to the other side of the lab in anger and as she turns to get a new one, she notices a fidgety Kryptonian settled – more like bouncing – on a nearby chair watching her work. Lena smiles at her, her shoulders relax at the sight.

“I take it no luck in finding anything.” Kara implores.

Lena leans back on a desk and she massages her temple weariness seeping into her bones “No.”

Kara purses her lips. “Then I may just know an ailment to our problem.” Kara says beamingly. Lena thinking in all seriousness replies “I could use any advice.”

Kara grins. “Pie.”

Lena shakes her head. “What? What does the pie got anything to do with it? Surely every periodic process has it, but …” she stops when Kara lets out a giggle. “Oh, not that pie.”

“Nope.” Kara says. “Would you like to come over? You could wind down about your trip, and chat while we fill ourselves with pie. Just let us forget today for a little while.” she asks hopefully.

Lena is stunned at Kara’s offer. Things hadn’t been that easy around the two of them, walking around eggshells. The only shred of normalcy is their hugs, though not as frequent as before, but they are not forced either. She releases a deep breath and tries to reign in tears of joy. “Sure. Just let me shut everything off. Meet you at your loft? I’ll be there in a blink.” and she raises her watch.

Kara grins and nods enthusiastically. “I’ll get the pie in the meantime.” and Kara flies away. She takes a few pirouettes in the air in elation before heading to her favorite bakery for a well-deserved pie.

Lena’s revelation was as much as shock to herself as it was to her best friend. Kara smiles at the term best friend. Surely this night is a large step towards their previous relationship, a plate of pie mending bridges over chasms created by past grievances. As she looks over to Lena nervously stuffing pie into herself to mask her insecurity her heart warms and she reaches over to stop Lena’s hand. Lena’s eyes grow large but she is unable to do anything against the girl of steel moving her plate to the table.

“Lena …” Kara begins but words seem to elude her just as she managed to gather her courage. “Look I know I must be difficult to discover your heritage, but don’t drive yourself too hard about it. I’ve been there, but I’ve had help, just as you’re not alone.” she says softly. “I’m here with you every step of the way.”

Lena’s eyes mist over and she quickly swats a tear away. “Oh, Lena.” Kara reaches her again. “Sorry, have I said some…” she tries but Lena shakes her head and a smile brightens her face.

“Just the opposite, after what I did, I never thought that we could rebuild our relationship. And what you said, just made me happy. I can’t even remember the last time I felt like this.” Lena says struggling with her emotions and swiping away tears. Kara shifts and gathers Lena in her arms for a Danvers trademark bearhug and the brunette in her arms breaks down in relief.

One hand delves into dark tresses while the other soothingly travels along Lena’s arm as the newly found witch burrows herself further into the embrace. “I’m here.” Kara reassures her. “For as long as I breathe, in whatever capacity you’ll allow me, I’m here for you Lena.” Kara bites her lower lip berating herself for her half confession. Now is not the time, she chides herself.

After a few minutes, Lena leans back to look into Kara’s eyes, realization shining through tears. “What did you mean by whatever capacity?” Lena asks, her voice hoarse from the crying.

Kara reaches for a strand of hair to put it behind Lena’s ear, trying to calm her nerves. “Nothing that can’t be said when you’re more comfortable in your new skin.” she whispers, her eyes darting all over Lena’s face trying to avoid both the eyes and the enticing lips that are a mere few inches away from hers. “Kara?” Lena pries “I’d like to avoid false hopes.” she whispers her gaze capturing Kara’s. The heart underneath Lena’s hand beats faster than before, matching her own. She watches as the decision is being made behind Kara’s eyes, and Kara takes in a deep breath, schools her features, then smiles shyly. “I’m happy just being here with you as your hopefully best friend.” Kara starts. “But when I saw you after I got back, all I could think about that I’d like to kiss you, but how could I since …”

Words die on her lips as Lena kisses them away. After the initial soft merging of lips, a surge of want courses through them and they into each other to deepen the kiss. Kara can taste the sweetness of the pie, the bitterness of coffee, and something that’s uniquely Lena. As Lena straddles her and her own hands travels over soft curves, she sighs happily into Lena’s mouth. Finally.

Notes:

Okay, so I began working on these in the beginning of October (hence the immediate 6 chapters) but never really got around to post it. The next step would be to actually write the rest of the prompts. Which I will. If you decide to continue reading then bear with me. I finish my stories, I just have a fickle relationship with time and writing spurs.

Anyways, thank you for reading! :)
