Patrol that evening was punctuated by Ladybug’s sneezes. It didn’t take long before Adrien convinced her that they better choose a spot to sit down instead of trying to run around why she had to deal with that.
“Have a tissue,” he said, taking one out of his pocket. She had been sniffing around but after the night before he knew that this wasn’t enough. And he was the one with the pockets.
She took it in her hand and promptly sneezed into it, before she could mumble a “thank you.”
“Why didn’t you stay at home, m’lady? I could have done this on my own,” he told her.
“I know you don’t like it when I leave you alone,” she said offhandedly, but he knew she was just irritated by being sick. He still appreciated the sentiment. “Besides, the fresh air is good for me. Achoo.”
“Are you sure?”
She wiped her nose and nodded.
“Maybe you shouldn’t sit so close to me though,” she said, making a face.
“I don’t care if I get sick or not,” he laughed. He was concerned about her, but he’d never dream of leaving her on her own when she was sick.
“Am I too gross? You’re probably grossed out by me,” she mumbled.
“I can never be grossed out by you,” he replied automatically. He couldn’t help noticing that this didn’t make sense after her previous statement. Now she was worried that he didn’t want to sit closer to her? “Are you sure this is just a runny nose? No fever?” He asked.
He could have lifted a hand to her forehead, but he doubted he could feel if it was too hot through the glove.
“I wouldn't have come with a fever,” she shrugged and then blew her nose.
“There, there,” he patted her back and carefully put a lock of hair behind her ear. Then he had an idea. He leaned in and kissed her cheek.
“Hey!” She jumped instantly, her eyes wide with surprise.
“I told you I’m not grossed out,” he grinned at her.
She held a hand to the spot on her cheek where he’d kissed her. For a second he was worried that he’d gone too far.
But then she smiled the softest smile and waved at him with the tissue in her other hand.
“Thank you, kitty.”
“I just want you to get better, m’lady,” he smiled. “And positive thoughts help.”
When he showed up for patrol the next evening with another pack of tissues for himself, because he was sneezing along with her, she didn’t tell him “I told you so.” Instead she snuggled into him and they both sniffled into the night.
