Chapter Text
Shirabu groaned loudly at the sound of his 4am alarm going off. Sure, he should feel well rested after rolling into bed at just before 8pm the night before but nothing, he decided, can prepare you for a shift starting at five in the morning, not even the enormous amount of coffee he was going to consume on his way to work.
The next thing he's aware of is movement from the person next to him. He glanced over at his partner looking for any signs that they'd woken up and he thought he was out of luck until brown eyes met his own.
Semi Eita was one of the main reasons Shirabu woke up every morning.
The absolute pure love he felt for his parter was unmatched to anything he had ever felt before. The two of them had a more than rough start, from enemies to fake dating to friends to enemies to friends to lovers; it had been a whole journey but now here they were, living together, breathing together, loving together. Shirabu wouldn't change their journey for anything; apart from maybe cutting out the part where Suga was a massive prick but that's neither here or there.
"Good morning Kenji," Semi whispered, their voice hoarse from the early morning. "Can we have a goodbye kiss now otherwise I'm going to fall asleep again in 0.3 seconds," their eyes were already slipping closed again and Shirabu rolled his eyes fondly before leaning down to kiss them softly.
"Baby," Shirabu muttered, slipping out of bed into the chill of their apartment.
It was November which meant there was most definitely a massive chill in the air and that meant a massive chill in their apartment. No matter what temperature they turned the heat up to, it was constantly freezing in their apartment, something Shirabu complained about nearly everyday where Semi actually loved the cold, loved snuggling up on their sofa or in their bed under a blanket and drinking hot drinks where Shirabu much preferred the warm weather and sunshine.
"You're a baby, I can hear you bitching out the cold in your head," Semi mumbled, opening their eyes again to look at their boyfriend.
"Shush and go back to sleep!" Shirabu grumbled, quickly changing into his work clothes. "I'll be back at three," he said quietly, leaning over to kiss Semi one last time before heading out, not before wrapping himself in ten jackets though, of course.
It only took Shirabu two hours to decide work was indeed tedious today.
It wasn't that he didn't love his job, of course he loved his job, he had worked so hard to go from high school to university to resident but it was hard. It was hard working so much which meant being away from Semi for most of the days, it was hard watching people suffer in so many horrific ways, it was hard to keep up with the energy he needed to be a doctor, everything sometimes just felt so difficult and when he hardly got to go home and Semi be there, it made it harder.
Again, it wasn't that he wasn't proud of Semi, of course he was. Semi had pulled themself from some of the worst places and come out on top. They were in a loving relationship, in an incredible band who were taking over the world with some people Shirabu never expected them to get along and they were absolutely killing it but Shirabu couldn't help but miss them. Their schedules were often so different, meaning Shirabu was waking up whilst Semi was still asleep and going to bed before Semi got home meaning they sometimes went three or four days without properly spending time together and it was starting to get Shirabu down.
But everything he loves will always be worth fighting for.
And that includes Semi, God knows the two of them have fought for this long.
