1984, June 19th, Local Gas Station
It had been a hot summer afternoon when Michael had decided to walk to a local gas station with his little sister, Elizabeth. The only reason Michael had brought her was that he didn’t want her to be home alone, who knows what would happen if he did that.
“Okay Elizabeth, You can pick out ONE soda can alright? I’m gonna be where the candy aisle. Would you like me to get something for you while I’m there” Michael said to his little sister. Elizabeth thought about it for a moment before her face lit up “Can you get me some pop rocks? I like the sizzling of them when you put them in your mouth.” The older of the two sighed endearingly “Of course Liz, and remember if anyone makes you uncomfortable or does ANYTHING to you, you call for me alright?” The redhead nodded enthusiastically before going back to debating whether she should pick Coca-Cola or Sprite.
Michael made his way to where the candy was located, closely scanning the aisle before he finds what he was looking for, Watermelon chewing gum. He enthusiastically picked up two packs of his favorite gum and quickly started looking for some pop rocks for his little sister. He had just picked up two small packets of the popping candy when he heard someone scream his name.
The Noirette wasn’t sure he had run so fast in his life, even if it was a short distance. When he got to where he heard the screaming there was a blonde lady that looked to be around her 40’s and wore a basic pink T-shirt and a knee-length skirt with sandals holding his little sister. “Stop screaming little girl! Learn some manners, will you?!” The lady shouted at Elizabeth.
“HEY, LADY! What the FUCK are you doing with my little sister!?” His accent seemed to get thicker as he shouted at the lady. Elizabeth and the lady immediately looked towards Michael “M-Mikey!” While the lady was distracted Elizabeth turned her head and bit down hard on the lady’s arm, which she reacted by dropping the girl, who quickly scampered off to her older brother, and held her arm in pain. “OW! Young lady, you should learn some manners! Biting an elder like that? You should be ashamed of your little sister!”
“I should be ashamed?! Were you NOT the one who was making MY little sister uncomfortable to the point she felt she needed to call for me? If anything YOU need to work on YOUR manners lady!” The lady simply just huffed and walked out of the gas station quickly. Michael grunted before turning to her little sister, who had been shaking and crying. When Michael saw this he almost immediately softened. He quickly knelt down, placing the candy on the floor beside him before wrapping his arms around the red-head.
“Don’t worry Elizabeth, the mean lady is gone now, no need to be afraid.” He said, trying to soothe her as he gently pushed his fingers through the strands of Elizabeth’s hair calmingly. After he was sure the little was calmed down he let go of her before picking up the candy he had put down and standing up, holding onto Elizabeth’s hand reassuringly. “Which sodas were you picking between Liz?” He asked his little sister while stepping towards the coolers that held the soda. “L-Liz was picking between Coca-Cola and Sprite.” Michael nodded and sighed, He knew that Elizabeth tended to talk in the third person when she was upset. “How about I get them both for you, how does that sound?” Elizabeth smiled weakly and nodded slightly. The older picked up the two cans of soda and passed them to the younger of the siblings.
They went to the cash register, checked out their goods, put them in a plastic bag, and walked out. Michael wanted to make sure that something like that would- hopefully- never happen again, he couldn’t lose another sibling, especially to his own fault. He wanted to be the best older brother to Elizabeth. He Couldn’t be a good older brother to @!#$&, so he figured he could at least be a good older brother to Elizabeth.
