Work Text:
“Honey!” called out a feminine voice that came from another room.
Shouta Aizawa groaned, because he knew that tone of the person’s voice meant that they either wanted something or was planning something.
He closed his laptop and put it on the coffee table in front of him, then looked behind him to see a seafoam green haired woman and a white-haired preteen walk into the living room. The woman had backup, so he knew something was up.
“What is it, Emi?” Aizawa asked the seafoam green haired woman with a not so happy tone.
“Why are you giving me that tone, mister?” Emi asked as she walked around the couch with the preteen girl and took a seat beside him.
“Because you obviously either want something or are planning something,” Aizawa responded, rolling his eyes. “Which one is it?”
“Hey! I’m not that easy to read!” Emi claimed.
“Yes, you are,” he groaned.
Emi pouted and crossed her arms, then turned her head to face the young girl. “Eri, am I easy to read?” she asked.
“Um… kinda?” Eri said, scratching her cheek and laughing nervously.
“See,” Aizawa said, then sighed. “Anyways, what is it that you want, Emi? I have lesson plans to finish.”
Emi unfolded her arms then put one hand out to grab his hand, bring it up slightly. “Your birthday is in two weeks, and we have no plans! What do you want to do, honey? Also, what do you want for your birthday!?”
“Nothing,” he quickly retorted.
“Oh, come one! Seriously?” she pouted.
“Yes,” he said quickly again. “I don’t want to do anything for my birthday. It’s just another day.”
“Another day!? Come on! You have to want something,” she whined.
“No, I don’t,” he told her. “I’m just another year older. That shouldn’t be a big deal.”
“But I want you to have a good time for your birthday!” Emi pouted more then looked at Eri. “Right, Eri?”
“Yeah!” Eri nodded.
“Again, I don’t want to have a “good time,” for my birthday. It’s nothing special,” Aizawa rolled his eyes and sighed.
“Honey, come on,” she whined, pulling his arm now, causing him to groan. “Our first year together, you took a patrol on your birthday! Then last year we couldn’t do anything because I had a really bad cold and you had to take care of me! I feel bad! I need to make it up to you!”
“No, you don’t,” he told her, pulling his arm away from her. “Besides, it wasn’t your fault. I’d do it again if I had to.”
Emi blushed at his comment but at the same time, she wanted to show him that he should and could enjoy his own birthday, even if he doesn’t care for it. “Shouta, come on.”
“Enough, Emi,” he sighed. “Look, it doesn’t matter. Besides, I have to work on my birthday, so it doesn’t even matter. Just let it go.”
“But Sho-,” Emi said before her mouth was covered by his hand.
“Let it go, Emi,” he told her again.
“Are you sure, dad?” he then heard Eri said. “We don’t even have to do something crazy! Just a dinner or something, and of course, cake!”
“I’m sure, Eri,” he said, as his hand left Emi’s mouth. “Besides, cake would not be a good idea for a pregnant woman. It’s unhealthy for the baby.”
“Excuse me! I have cravings that need to be met, you know,” Emi said, as she rubbed her small pregnant belly, being that she was only four months along.
“You need to eat healthy to have a healthy baby, Emi,” Aizawa sighed again. “That’s what the doctor said.”
“She also said I still can have some things here and there, just not an excessive amount,” she told him.
“Yeah, say that to the two pints of ice cream you ate last week while I wasn’t home,” he deadpanned.
“I only did that because you keep on taking away the goods! I was making up for all the cravings I’ve been having!” she pouted. “Besides, I shared some with Eri.”
“Not by much from what I heard,” he groaned. “Anyways, no planning something for my birthday and no birthday cake, Emi and Eri. We are going to act like it’s another day.”
“But dad!” Eri said.
“But Shouta!” Emi said at the same time.
“No buts. End of discussion,” he said, then got up from the couch. “I’m going to get something from the store. You need anything, Emi?”
“I would like some sweets, but somebody is keeping it away from me,” she pouted at him.
“No sweets,” he told her.
“I want a divorce,” she said.
“No, you don’t.” he quickly retorted.
“If I don’t get sweets I do,” she crossed her arms across her chest again.
“No sweets,” he repeated. “Actual food or nothing.”
Emi sucked her teeth, then looked away from her husband, still pouting. “Fine, no sweets.”
Aizawa sighed, then cupped Emi’s face, bring her face back towards him, then bent over a bit to be at eye level with her. “You’ll thank me later,” he said, then planted a kiss on her forehead. “So will the baby.”
“Once they are able to talk, I’m going to tell them how their own dad didn’t let them have some sweets!” she told him. “They will be devastated.”
“So be it,” he said as he stood up straight. “I’ll be back.”
Once he left, Emi went over and sat by Eri, who knew what Emi was up to next. Like Aizawa said, they read Emi like a book.
“What is your plan?” Eri asked.
“Well, sweetheart, I have the perfect gift idea at least. I think your dad is gonna love it!” Emi said to the girl. “We’re getting him a cat!”
“But mama, he said no gifts and when I asked if we could get a cat for Christmas, he said no,” Eri said.
“I know! That is why we are going to do it in secret!” Emi explained. “I already called a shelter to see if they have kittens, and they said we can check it out next weekend! Just you and I!”
“Wouldn’t dad realize that we are doing something?” Eri asked.
“Maybe,” Emi shrugged. “But it doesn’t matter! We are getting a cat for him!”
“I’m not sure dad is going to be super happy about it,” Eri said, unconvinced.
“Don’t worry, he’ll thank us later,” she grinned. “Just you wait. He will be so happy!”
“I don’t know mama,” Eri said. “When dad says no, he means no.”
“Yeah, he also said that about marrying me and here we are! Married with a baby on the way!” she laughed as she rubbed her pregnant belly. “Besides, I know your dad hasn’t had a cat because of the responsibilities of being a hero and now, being a husband and dad. But I know he wishes for one! You see how he treats the neighbor’s cat! He obviously needs one of his own!”
“But what if he gets mad?” Eri asked. “He definitely will get mad.”
“I’ll deal with that part. You just worry about what the color of the cat’s bed!” Emi grinned at the girl. “Don’t worry, we will pull this off and your dad is going to be super happy!”
Two weeks later, and it was Aizawa’s birthday.
Like he said, he would go to work and act like it was a normal day, not his birthday.
“Good morning, honey! Happy birthday!” Emi shouted as she woke her husband up.
She shook the body of Aizawa who was still trying to wake up. “Emi, the alarm hasn’t even gone off,” he said with his raspy morning voice.
“I know, but I woke up early from back pain,” she told him.
Aizawa got up from the bed and pushed his hair out of his face, then reached his hand to her back, rubbing it gently. “Are you alright? Do we need to see a doctor?”
Emi smiled softly at him and shook her head. “It’s no biggie! I think it’s because my stomach is growing faster by the day now that I’m getting close to the five-month mark. I’m not use to the extra weight.”
“Are you sure?” he asked her. “I can take you to the doctor right away.”
“And ruin your day!? No!” she said to him. “I’m fine, I promise!”
“Emi, you wouldn’t be ruining my day. I told you my birthday doesn’t matter. What matters is you have a safe pregnancy,” he said in worry.
“The doctor told me I will be experiencing back pain sooner or later, so I’m not worried about it! Besides, my coworker who just had a baby warned me about it! I’ll be okay,” she reassured him.
Aizawa sighed, then kissed her on her forehead while he still rubbed her sore back. “Okay, but if you are in more pain, we are going to the doctor.”
“Okay, mister worried pants,” she laughed, then wrapped her arms around his neck before kissing him on the lips. “Happy birthday, Shouta.”
“Thank you, Emi,” he said, then kissed her again on the lips. “I’ll make breakfast.”
“No, you’re not! I’m gonna do it!” she said to him, her arms falling from his neck.
“Emi, I’ll-.”
“I said I’ll do it. You just get ready and get Eri up, and I’ll make breakfast,” she interrupted him, putting her hand on his chest, and softly smiling at him. “I hope you like some pancakes.”
Aizawa scoffed, then smirked at her, “I think pancakes would be great.”
Emi poked his chest, planted a kiss on his lips once more before she got out of their bed, put her slippers on, then left the room, leaving Aizawa alone now.
He sighed loudly, then removed the covers off him, getting out of bed after. He then put his own slippers on, then stopped the alarm from going off, since it would have in five minutes if Emi didn’t wake him up. After, he got up from the bed and stretched his body, then groaned because he realized he was getting old.
“Damn it. I just turned 35 and I could already feel my body giving up,” he said to himself, then sighed again.
He walked out of his room and made his way to Eri’s room, knocking the door before he entered.
“Eri, it’s time to wake up,” he said to her as he opened the door and made his way to her bed.
Eri was a light sleeper, so she was able to wake up just by the sound of his voice. She stretched her body on her bed, then sat up to rub her eyes, before she spotted Aizawa.
“I’m up,” she said, still sounding half asleep. “Happy birthday, dad.”
Aizawa smirked and put his hand on her head, patting it gently. “Thank you, Eri. Now, it’s time to get ready for school. You don’t want to be late.”
“Okay,” she responded.
Aizawa gave her one last pat before he left and got ready himself, then after, he went to the kitchen to see that breakfast was almost ready.
Since Emi became pregnant, he would take over a lot of the housework, since he did not want to stress her out during it. They usually did 50/50 of the housework, but as her stomach grew, he wanted her to do less, worried about the pregnancy, especially since it was her first one. However, he did miss her pancakes that she made from scratch and thought it was better than what he was planning on making.
“Smells good,” Aizawa said as he walked over to the kitchen stove, where he saw Emi flip a pancake.
“I made sure not to forget the vanilla like you do,” she laughed.
“It was one time,” he scoffed.
“Yeah well, leave the pancakes to me, will ya?” she said, then laughed again.
“Yeah, yeah,” he groaned. “I’ll get the plates.”
“Thank you!” she said to him. “Oh, I also already made the coffee. Enjoy the bitter caffeine in miss so much.”
“You don’t even drink your coffee bitter,” he said as he pulled three plates out of the cabinets, then handed them to Emi. “You drown it in sugar and creamer.”
“Still miss it,” she laughed. “I like my coffee how I like my men, sweet.”
“That’s not funny,” he groaned as he reached for a mug.
“You know it is!” she laughed again.
She took the plates and began to serve the finished pancakes. Aizawa, on the other hand, served himself some coffee, then walked over to the kitchen table to place his mug there before he went back to Emi to help with the plates. He took two of the three plates and brought them to the table, then walked back to grab the last one from Emi’s hand, as she was holding it to bring it to the table behind him.
“I got it,” he told her. “Go sit.”
“I can hold a plate, you know,” she pouted. “Pregnancy doesn’t make me weak.”
“I know it doesn’t,” he told her. “But you cooked. I can finish the rest.”
She sighed, then pouted again at him. “Let me do something once in a while, will you? It’s gonna drive me crazy if you don’t let me do anything.”
“You’ll thank me later. Besides, I don’t want to add to your backpain,” he told her.
“The plate is like a pound,” she told him.
“Still, I don’t want you doing too much. Just sit. I’ll get you and Eri some orange juice,” he said.
“Okay, okay,” Emi sighed.
The two walked over to the table and Aizawa placed the last plate down before he went back into the kitchen and into the fridge to get orange juice. As he was, he heard footsteps coming from behind, and turned to see Eri, who was dressed up and ready for school.
“Good morning, mama!” Eri said to Emi as she walked over to her. She bent over to Emi’s belly and began to rub it gently, causing Emi to softly smile as she did. “Good morning, baby.”
“Good morning, sunshine. Did you sleep well?” Emi asked.
Eri looked at her and nodded. “Yup! I slept like a baby!”
“Good to hear,” Emi said as she put her hand to Eri’s cheek, pinching it softly. “Sit and eat, I made us pancakes. Your favorite.”
“Ooh! Yay!” Eri said, then immediately took a seat. She loved Emi’s pancakes and couldn’t wait to dig in.
Aizawa brought back two glasses of orange juice and placed it on top of the table, then took a seat at the end of the table. They all thanked their food, then dug into the delicious pancakes that Emi made for the family.
“MH! So good, mama!” Eri said while chewing her food.
“Aw, thank you, sunshine! I made sure to put vanilla in, unlike someone…” she said, pointing at Aizawa who groaned.
“Let it go,” he groaned.
“Never,” Emi said, then took a bite of her pancakes. “Honey, what do you want for dinner? Do you want me to make your favorite?”
“Just buy something,” he responded, taking a bite out of this food.
“Oh, come on, honey! At least let me make you a nice dinner!” Emi whined.
“Again, buy something. Besides, you should just let me cook. You made breakfast today,” he said before taking a sip of his coffee.
“No! I’m cooking, mister! I can cook!” Emi said, pointing her fork at Aizawa. “I’m going to cook and that’s final, Shouta. No buts!”
Aizawa shook his head, then sighed. “Fine, but don’t make it a big deal.”
“I won’t,” she said, stabbing her fork into her pancake. “But I did invite Hizashi over for dinner already.”
“Emi, really?” Aizawa said.
“What!? He’s your best friend and the uncle to our babies!” Emi told him. “How can I not invite him over for dinner at least!?”
“Because you two in a room together makes me want to invest in earplugs,” he groaned.
“Well, too bad! One is your friend, and one is your wife. You must deal with us for the rest of your life,” she said, puckering her lips at him. “Ha-ha! that rhymed!”
Aizawa sighed again. “Yeah, I know that.”
The family finished up their breakfast, then it was time to head out to work and school.
As Eri went to get her things for school, Emi sneaked into her room and closed the door behind her, trying to make sure things were going to go according to Emi’s plan.
“I texted your uncle Hizashi to keep your dad busy while we pick up the cat after school. I’m leaving work early just so I can be there on time to get you and we can get the cat as soon as possible,” Emi whispered to Eri.
“Are you sure it’s going to work, mama? I mean, dad will notice that something is up,” Eri said, unsure about the whole plan. “Uncle Hizashi also isn’t that great at keeping secrets.”
“I think we have this one in the bag,” Emi said, confident in her plan. “Just leave it up to me!”
“I hope it works,” Eri said, then exhaled.
“It will! Your dad is going to be the happiest man in the world!”
“SHO!!!” Present Mic shouted at his best friend, who kept walking down the U.A. hallways as he heard his voice. “SHO WHY AREN’T YOU STOPPING!?”
Mic ran towards him, then wrapped his arm around his shoulder, stopping Aizawa in his tracks.
“What do you want Hizashi? It’s the end of the day and I want to go home,” Aizawa groaned.
“So, you were just going to leave without me!? I’m sure Emi told you I’m coming by for dinner!” Mic said loudly, causing Aizawa to wince.
“Yeah, she did,” he said. “But I don’t want you there.”
“What!? My best friend doesn’t even allow me over his house for his birthday!? How could you!?” Mic complained.
“Because I know Emi would make my birthday a big thing, especially if you’re over,” Aizawa told him. “Lie and say that you got a cough or something.”
“No can do, Sho! Besides, how do I look if I lie to a pregnant woman? Mic said. “I’ll look like a jerk!”
“She doesn’t need to know,” Aizawa said.
“You suck,” Mic scoffed. “Anyways, I’m coming over if you like it or not. But before we go, I need to pick up a few things.”
“Like what?” Aizawa asked.
“Emi asked me to pick up a cake she ordered for you, and I got your present back at my place. I forgot it, so we should pick it up beforehand,” he told him.
“Of course, she got a cake when I said not to,” he murmured.
“She said she already paid for it, so we have to get it. Plus, can’t take the cake away from her. She probably will kill you for ruining her craving for cake.”
“She shouldn’t be eating cake,” Aizawa groaned again. “Also, you don’t need to give me a gift. You know I hate gifts.”
“Yeah but, we are in our mid-thirties now, man! Gotta get you something special for it!” Mic laughed.
“No, you don’t,” Aizawa quickly retorted.
“Aw, someone’s becoming a grumpy old geezer already,” Mic continued to laugh.
“Shut up,” Aizawa grumbled. “Just hurry up and let’s go. I want to go home already.”
“Great! Meet me at the parking lot. I gotta get something on my desk really quick!” Mic said, pointing back at the opposite direction of them.
Aizawa’s shoulders fell as he sighed. “Whatever, just hurry up.”
“Will do!” Mic said.
Mic walked away from Aizawa, then pulled his phone out to text Emi that everything was going as planned. They named their chat “Mission: EraserCat.”
Mrs. Aizawa, cats in the bag!
“Aw, mama! She’s so cute!” Eri said as she held a small black kitten in her arms.
“Your dad is going to love her!” Emi squealed as she petted the cat’s head. “What a cutie pie!”
“I hope so! I want her to stay with us!” Eri said.
“She will, sunshine! She’s already an Aizawa!”
As they fawned over the cat, they both heard the sound of keys outside of the front door, causing the both of them to panic.
“Eri, run and put the cat in your room!” Emi whispered, in which Eri nodded and ran to her bedroom.
Emi then fixed herself and smoothed out her sweater dress that she put on for the occasion, then walked over towards the front door to greet her husband and his best friend.
“Honey! You’re home! And Hizashi! I’m glad you could make it!” Emi grinned widely at the two. “And you got the cake!”
“Of course, I did!” Mic laughed. “Sho was mad about it, but he knows better than to fight it.”
“Emi, I told you no cake,” Aizawa sighed as he took his shoes off.
“Too bad, Shouta. I was craving cake,” Emi told him as he walked over to her. She poked him in the chest and gave him a wide grin, giggling as she did. “Like Hizashi said, you know better than to fight it.”
“Whatever,” Aizawa sighed and rolled his eyes. “How’s your back?”
“It’s fine. Not as bad as when I woke up,” she said. “If I’m strong enough to kick some butt, then I’m strong enough to carry this baby.”
“Hell yeah!” Mic cheered her on. “Don’t sell woman short, Sho! They are stronger than you think.”
“I never thought that anyway,” Aizawa sighed again. He brought Emi closer to him, then kissed her forehead, then his eyes met with Emi. “Where’s Eri?”
“I’m right here!” Eri shouted as she ran over to the three pro-heroes. “Uncle Hizashi!”
“Hey kid!” Mic shouted back as he handed the cake to Aizawa and embraced the young girl. “I swear every time I see you, you look taller!”
“I grew a centimeter!” Eri giggled as she embraced him, then pulled away from him.
“All right!” Mic praised her.
Emi laughed at the moment between Eri and Mic, then looked back at her husband who was holding his own birthday cake. “Put the cake in the fridge. I made dinner already and I’m starving. Food first, cake after.”
“You should have just ordered food,” he sighed.
“But this food came from the heart!” Emi pouted.
“Still, you shouldn’t be on your feet too much,” he told her.
“I can do what I want,” she continued to pout.
“I know, but we have to make your pregnancy as comfortable as possible,” Aizawa sighed again. “I’ll serve dinner. Sit at the dining table.”
“I got it!” Mic told them. “You two sit and Eri, help me serve the food, will ya?”
“Okay!” Eri nodded in agreement.
“No,” Emi and Aizawa said at the same time.
“It’s fine! I could do it! It’s the least I can do for the people who are feeding me,” he laughed. He took the cake back from Aizawa, then pointed his lips towards the dining table. “Sit you two. I got it.”
“Thank you, Hizashi,” Emi softly laughed.
“You’re welcome, now sit! I’m sure you two are starving!”
Mic walked over to the kitchen to put the cake inside it before he went over to the stove and began to serve dinner for the Aizawa family and himself with the help of Eri. Once they did that, they all thanked their food and began to dig into Aizawa’s favorite dish.
“Man, Emi, you really know how to cook!” Mic said, chewing on his food.
“Swallow before you speak,” Aizawa groaned.
“Oh, thank you, Hizashi! I tried my best!” Emi giggled.
“You always cook good,” Aizawa said as he swallowed his food. “Thank you, Emi.”
“Aw, you’re welcome, birthday boy!” Emi giggled.
As they ate, Eri spoke about how her day at school was, then Mic mentioned the old days with him and the rooftop gang from high school. Aizawa tuned out most of what Mic was saying, since he exaggerates a lot when he told stories, and as Mic was speaking, he heard a low noise that sounded like an animal.
“Did you hear that?” Aizawa asked, his brow raising.
“Hear what?” Emi asked him after swallowing her food.
“I heard a cat,” Aizawa said.
Emi, Eri and Mic began to sweat.
“A cat? Why would you hear a cat?” Emi laughed loudly. “I didn’t hear anything!”
“Yeah, neither did I!” Mic followed. “How about you, Eri? Did you hear something?”
“Nope! I only heard you speaking, uncle Hizashi,” Eri lied along with the pro-heroes.
“I’m sure that I heard a cat meow,” Aizawa said, becoming suspicious.
“Maybe it’s a stray from outside!” Emi told him. “I mean, we do get a lot of them because you keep feeding them!”
“No, this one sounds like it’s coming from inside,” Aizawa squinted his eyes as he glared at the three. “Please don’t tell me you did what I think you did.”
“What are you talking about, Shouta?” Emi nervously laughed.
Aizawa glared at his wife for a few seconds before he quickly got up and walked towards where he heard the meow from. Emi started to panic, and quickly got up to follow him, along with Eri and Mic, who ran behind her.
“Honey, I think you’re hearing things!” she told him. “You’re not that old to be hearing things!”
“Sho, you’re definitely hearing things,” Mic laughed nervously.
“No, I’m not,” he said, then shushed them. When they were shushed, he heard the meow again and it was coming from Eri’s room.
“That’s probably one of my toys!” Eri lied.
“No, it’s not,” Aizawa said. He went towards Eri’s room, then swung the door open to spot a small black kitten with white paws and a strip of white fur under the cat’s eye that looked like Aizawa’s scar.
“Hehe,” Emi nervously laughed. “Surprise, honey.”
Aizawa turned back to look at his wife, who was sweating in nervousness. “Emi, why is there a cat in our home?”
“I-It’s your birthday gift,” she stuttered. “She’s ours now. She’s an Aizawa.”
Aizawa scolded her. “Emi, you know we cannot have a cat.”
“Oh, why not!? You love cats! I know you want one, but you just refuse to have one!” Emi whined.
“We cannot have a cat with a baby coming, Emi. She needs to be properly trained and we don’t know if our baby will be allergic to cats!” he told her.
“I thought about that already! If the baby is allergic, I know someone who would take her. Also, Eri will help train her and, when I give birth and am all alone with the baby, it would be nice to have some company! Come on, Shouta, don’t be like that!” she pleaded with him.
“Yeah, Sho, I know how much you wanted to take Sushi back in high school, but you felt like you couldn’t. Now, you can! You have a family that will be there with the cat! Eri has also been dying for a cat! Just keep it, will ya!” Mic defended Emi.
“You two don’t understand the responsibility of having an animal,” Aizawa told them.
“I might not know the responsibility of having an animal, but I’m sure once she’s trained, we won’t have to worry too much. It’s not a dog that we have to take outside to use the bathroom. She’ll have a litterbox, food and love from all of us,” Emi put her foot down. “We also don’t know the responsibility of having a baby and here we are, having one, Shouta. For once, just let yourself have something.”
Aizawa’s eyes soften as his wife spoke. “Emi, look, I… I really appreciate it, but it will be hard-.”
“And we will get through it,” she interrupted him. “It’s not like we haven’t been through worse.”
Aizawa sighed, then looked back at the cat, who was now rubbing her face on his pants, smelling, and greeting her new owner.
“See, she already likes you, dad,” Eri said, as she bent down to grab the cat, then brought it up to Aizawa’s face.
Aizawa looked at Eri, who smiled at him while she lifted the cat towards him, then took the cat from her, cradling it in his arms. “Does she have a name?”
“Nope,” Emi said. “We were leaving that up to you.” Emi smiled softly at her husband, then brought her hand up to pet the cat’s head. “Make the name cute.”
Aizawa laughed softly, then brought one hand to rub that kitten’s belly, causing the kitten to purr. “Tuna. Her name will be Tuna.”
“Tuna?” Eri asked, confused by the name.
“Yeah, Tuna. In honor of Sushi, Midnight’s cat,” Aizawa softly smiled at Eri.
“I think it’s perfect,” Mic laughed as he reached to pet the cat.
“Yeah, it fits her,” Emi giggled. “Isn’t she adorable? We saw she had a stripe of white fur under her eye, so we knew she was the one. She’s you in cat form.”
“Of course, you choose the cat that reminds you of me,” Aizawa scoffed.
“Well, she is your cat,” Emi said.
“You mean, our cat. Like you said, she’s an Aizawa,” he told her.
“Yeah, she is,” Emi smiled up at him. “Happy birthday, Shouta.”
“Thank you, Emi.”
“Emi, I’m not wearing this stupid hat,” Aizawa said, as he looked at the birthday cone hat.
“Oh, come on! One picture! We all have one!” Emi whined. “I even have one for Tuna!”
“Emi, please,” he groaned.
“Are you really telling a pregnant woman no, Sho? Psh! I’m ashamed to be your friend!” Mic teased.
“Shut up,” Aizawa groaned again. “Emi, I hate those things. Please don’t make me.”
“It’s for the memories!” she told him.
Aizawa sighed in defeat. “Fine. Make it quick.”
“Yay!” Emi cheered. She placed the hat on Aizawa, then tried to put the small one she bought for Tuna on, but the cat was not happy about it. So, Aizawa just held it over the cat’s head to make it look like she was wearing it.
“Okay, get closer! I need to take a picture quick before Tuna starts going crazy.” Mic said, holding Emi’s phone to take a picture of the family. As the family got closer together behind Aizawa’s birthday cake, Mic smiled and laughed at the moment, happy that he was able to experience this with them. “Alright, one, two, three!” he said, then took the picture. “It’s beautiful!”
“Let me see!” Emi excitedly said, walking over to Mic and taking the phone from him. “Aw! Look at us! I love it!” She pointed the phone in Aizawa and Eri’s direction to show them the picture, causing Eri to grin widely and Aizawa to smirk.
“Send it to me! I’m gonna crop Sho’s face and make it his contact picture,” Mic laughed.
“Hizashi,” Aizawa groaned.
“Sent!” Emi laughed. “Anyways, time to sing happy birthday! I’m craving cake!”
“Can we just cut it?” Aizawa pleaded with his wife.
“I wanna sing happy birthday!” Eri told Aizawa. “We never get to sing happy birthday to you, dad!”
He couldn’t argue with her, so he sighed again in defeat. “Please make it quick.”
“Will do, honey,” Emi laughed. “Alright, one, two, three!”
After Emi counted down, Eri, Mic and she began to sing Aizawa happy birthday while he still held Tuna in his arms. As much as he hates his birthday, he appreciated what they all done for him, especially since he got a cat out of it.
“Yay! Make a wish, Shouta!” Emi said, clapping her hands together.
“I don’t need to make one. I have what I want here,” he softly laughed before he blew his candles out.
“Aw! Honey! I love you so much,” Emi cried as she hugged him tightly. Once she let go of her embrace, she planted a kiss on his lips, then smiled softly at him. “I have one more surprise for you. You might want to put Tuna down for this.”
“No more surprises, please,” Aizawa groaned as he did what she said and put Tuna down on the floor.
“You’ll definitely like this one,” she told him. “Now, close your eyes.”
Aizawa sighed then closed his eyes. He then felt Emi grab one of his hands and place what felt like paper. “Emi, what is this?” he asked.
“Open your eyes,” she giggled.
As he opened his eyes, he saw that she placed an envelope in his hand. It was blank at the front.
“Open it up,” she told him, smiling at him.
Aizawa didn’t protest and opened the envelope. Inside it, he saw a note that had a picture of a sonogram.
“W-We’re having a girl,” Aizawa said in shock as he read the note.
“We’re having a baby girl,” she said after. “I got the results the other day when you couldn’t make it to the appointment. I had the doctor seal up the results without telling me a thing. I wanted us to find out together.”
“I’m going to have a baby sister!” Eri jumped up and down from excitement.
“Congrats, you two!” Hizashi softly laughed.
Aizawa got up from his seat, and brought Emi into a hug, burring his face into her hair. “We’re having a girl.”
“I’m going to take that as you are very happy and don’t know what else to say,” Emi laughed, tearing up a little in happiness.
Aizawa pulled away from their embrace, then kissed her on the forehead before wiping her tears away. “I am very happy.”
“You better be. I’m not holding this kid for nothing!” Emi joked.
“I know, I know,” he said, rubbing her back gently. “Let’s get you some cake.”
“Now, we’re talking!” Emi laughed. “Hizashi, the cake!”
“On it!” he shouted as he took the cake and brought it to the kitchen to slice it up.
“Thank you, Emi, for everything,” Aizawa told her.
“You’re welcome, Shouta. And you didn’t want something for your birthday,” she laughed.
“Yeah, well, I had a change in heart,” he smirked at her.
“I knew you would,” she said, giving him a quick kiss on the lips. “Happy Birthday, Shouta.”
