Work Text:
A blonde woman wearing a black leather jacket strolls up to the Salvatore School in Mystic Falls Virginia, the locked gate before her. Rebekah Mikaelson stands before the school with purpose.
Rebekah grabs the chains on the gate and simply snaps them before opening the gate and walking up to the steps of the school. She opens the doors and begins walking down the hallway, a few students glance over her wondering who she is and why she's here, but she seems to know exactly where she's going so, they assume she's meant to be here.
At the end of the hallway, Rebekah arrives at the headmaster’s office, Alaric Saltzman's office as she opens the door to let herself in.
Alaric is sitting at his desk drinking a bottle of bourbon. The office is rather neat with a wooden desk, a few sets of cushioned chairs and a couch in the centre of the room, and shelves of books and supernatural objects along the walls. As Alaric sees the door open, he says, "Oh who is it?" downs another glass of bourbon then sees Rebekah and says "Oh Rebekah, wasn't expecting you, how are you? What brings you here today?"
"I'm here for you Alaric. You've been recklessly endangering the students of this school for long enough and it's time for it to bloody stop."
Alaric downs one more shot of bourbon he had poured before he uncharacteristically caps the bottle and puts it down.
"What are you talking about Rebekah? I've only done my best for this school and its students. The students love me and see me as a father."
"There's some thousand-year-old mud golem running around and instead of calling anyone that can help stop it you put a school of children to work as soldiers to try and kill the golem and whatever monster it releases seemingly every week. At the same time, my niece could have stopped the golem long ago if you had let her turn." she steps a bit closer to Alaric's desk
"The kids wanted to fight Malivore, they want to protect this town, so I help train them to do it safely putting them in as little danger as possible. And for Hope, turning is a choice that affects you for the rest of your life, and I didn't want her to turn until I thought she was ready when she was a bit older."
"Every child dreams of fighting evil monsters, I'm sure you did, and you've killed many supernaturals in your time before this school. You claim turning is a choice, but Hope didn't get a choice on whether she turns, only when. She was born with vampire blood constantly coursing through her, so she was always fated to turn into the Tribrid eventually and she said she was ready to turn to kill Malivore but then you still didn't let her until it got to the point where Malivore was possessing her boyfriend and now she's had to kill both. You claim to be teaching these children to fight safely but how many of them have died or been injured under your leadership?"
"It was a different time then when I was killing those vampires, I've changed. I didn't think she was ready until the other day, it's awful what happened to Landon, but you can't blame me for it. Yes, some of the kids have died under my watch and I carry that pain with me, but I've seen the school without me and it's better off with me so if this is about getting me to leave, that isn't happening."
"No Alaric, we haven't seen the school without you. We've seen the school with a different manipulative headmaster endangering the students. You're a former hunter of the supernatural that has for some reason been put in charge of a school for the supernatural. You don't truly understand us or any of the kids here and it's time for you to go. I will do whatever it takes to protect my family, and my niece, always and forever."
"I can't just leave them, last time I did that they hunted me down and made me come back. The students love me and it's because I used to hunt the villains among their kind that I can understand them!"
Rebekah walked right up to Alaric's desk and looked him in the eyes "I haven't even mentioned all the reasons you need to leave; we both know what they are." she then channelled the vampiric power in her words. "You will answer this question truthfully. Will you leave this school willingly to keep the children safe, or will you die by my hand again? Permanently this time."
Alaric feels the pressure pushing at his mind, compelling him to tell the truth. "I- I- I can't l-leave. You can't make me leave. I own this school and I can kill you!"
As he finishes answering the question the compulsion wanes and Alaric reaches for his crossbow under his desk then aims it for Rebekah's heart and pulls the trigger. The stake quickly lands true, piercing her heart, it could kill any normal vampire. But Rebekah isn't a normal vampire, she's an original.
Rebekah quickly grabs Alaric's neck then rips the stake out of her chest and stabs it into Alaric's leg as he lets out a small cry of pain. "Really Alaric? You're not on vervain when you run a school with a dozen vampires running around? I knew you were stupid with the things you have been doing to some of the students, but I didn't think you would be so stupid that would work. Unless you have any White Oak or Marcel's venom lying around you won't be able to kill me. And you don't own the school, Caroline owns the building and the Mikaelson family donated the money to make it a school. Your time is over Alaric, any last words?"
"Yes, I-"
Rebekah cuts him off as she swiftly reaches her hand into his chest and clutches his beating heart before ripping it free and dropping him to the ground. "No last words for you after what you have done Alaric. If you make it to the bright world, to peace, tell my brothers why you're there."
Alaric falls to the ground and hears those final words from Rebekah before the air leaves his lungs and the life leaves his eyes, and he departs the material plane once more.
With Alaric dealt with Rebekah sits down in his chair and finds the PA system to announce to the whole school. "Alaric Saltzman is gone and the Salvatore School is under new management. My name is Rebekah Mikaelson, one of the remaining Original Vampires and I'm your new Headmaster until a suitable replacement is found."
