It's what they used to call children who were odd, or disabled. Before modern medicine knew why certain brains worked differently, how chemicals became imbalanced, or neurons misfired, it was so much easier to blame it on magic. So, the farmer's son had a twitch in the eye, or couldn't understand why people laughed, or couldn't talk at all, what was the answer? Simple. That wasn't the farmer's son. The real farmer's son must have been abducted by fairies as a baby, and the one they had left over...
They called them changelings.
