Work Text:
They say the handsome, perfect, immortal Hanguang Jun owns a black pendant of jade, shaped in an Emperor's Smile jar, that holds his beloved's soul.
The millennium old cultivator always wears a white Gusu Lan robe from head to toe, so the contrast black leather choker just slightly below his Adam's apple really stands out.
It is like a memento that the virtuous cavalier's heart is untouchable, and nobody can ever compare to the owner of that icy being: his deceased husband, the only mistake Hanguang Jun has, the only black in his life.
The only person who could bring Hanguang Jun to his knees, who could coax a smile from his mouth: his only equal, in cultivation, in capability, and in bed.
Those rumors are 90% true.
It is true that Yiling Laozu is the only equal, the only husband, and the only owner of his heart.
It is also true that the mischievous man never regained his powerful cultivation after residing in a new body, thus failing to cultivate immortality like his husband.
The fact that the black jar holds his soul is also almost right.
But people forget.
Wei Ying is a genius.
It is not his soul that resides in that jade.
It is him.
Mind. Body. Soul.
Wei Ying is a genie.
A powerful one at that. But even he cannot go against the rule, that he has to serve as a genie at least for a thousand years before he can be released by a human's wish.
Then, he can be a free human, with intact genie's magical power.
Wei Ying is a genie.
Lan Wangji can summon him anytime by rubbing the pendant.
And there he comes, in the midst of smoke, with a grin so bright, a complete upper half (red and not entirely solid) of his body, two hands, but nothing below the belt. Both his hands are bound by golden guams, the one they used a millennium ago in their wedding, now serving as his chains.
So he doesn't have a lower body (and its related body part), but he has a mouth, and he uses it well. For jabbering nonstop, for drinking his wine, for smiling so brightly (which puts Hanguang Jun in a trance), and some other stuff that makes Lan Wangji crazy for him.
They also found a loophole in this "3 human wishes" thing.
It is reset every century. So the same human can make another three wishes after 100 years and a day.
And Lan Wangji has a specific request that he repeats three times every century.
For Wei Ying to be human.
With healthy looking skin (not that he doesn't like his red color), a solid body with complete limbs and genitalia, and the ability to cuddle with him and not go back to his tiny vessel every time he sleeps, he looks less devilish and a lot more adorable and cute in his natural color.
And he wears him out until he loses all his energy and then turns back to his jar (and into a genie).
Repeat twice more.
They have done this 26 times out of the 9 times Lan Wangji can make three wishes. The waiting period is always a pain. But tomorrow will be his 1,000-year anniversary as a genie.
And Lan Wangji will set him free.
Unfortunately, there is someone else who is also counting to 1000.
Because the genie would be magnanimously powerful at that moment. And to own a great weapon like him as his servant will be an ultimate power.
As Lan Wangji runs to the meadow close to midnight, his heart at his throat, his body trembling with excitement, and his mind whirring at the prospect of being reunited with his husband, this time for eternity, he doesn't see that person lurking in the dark, ready to attack.
Ready to claim the Yiling Laozu, the most powerful genie that will ever exist.
With tremendous genie power, necromancy ability, and authority to rule over the undead.
He will own him.
