Work Text:

Seokjin wakes up dreadfully early and the first thing he does is let out a long, woeful sigh.

It is another beautiful Saturday so to say, a pleasant spring morning in the objectively lovely month of April— except the right side of his bed is empty and cold. He groans into his pillow and buries his face in it. What is the point of a Saturday without Taehyung?

The Taehyung in question is out of town for an impromptu work conference, something he had been told on Friday night, and they had had to cancel all their plans for the weekend. Seriously, fuck capitalism.

“If only I didn’t need this job so badly, I’d email my resignation right this moment,” Taehyung had grumbled as he tore through his wardrobe, throwing clothes in his bag without sparing them a glance.

“You love this job, baby,” Seokjin had muttered from where he was perched on the bed, trying to organise the clothes Taehyung was ‘packing’ the best he could. Taehyung had just whined and fallen back on the bed, head in Seokjin’s lap.

“I do, don’t I,” he had said wistfully, eyes fixed on Seokjin’s. Seokjin had smiled his fond smile and brought up a hand to card through his boyfriend’s hair.

“You do. Plus, it’s only a matter of two days, right? We always have the next weekend,” he had consoled the younger.

“But I really wanted to go fishing with you,”

“I know baby, me too,” Seokjin had whispered, bending down to plant a kiss on the younger’s forehead.

“I’ll try to be back soon,” Taehyung had said, sitting up.

“I know. And don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine,” Seokjin had assured him and pulled him into a hug.

They had finished packing just in time for Taehyung’s flight and then he was gone. Seokjin had come back to their bedroom and taken at least another two hours to fall asleep.

Before Taehyung left, Seokjin had helped him pack his overnight bag, speed-cooked him his favourite kind of gimbap and booked him a cab. Taehyung had been absolutely bummed about the whole deal, Seokjin had been optimistic for his sake.

He really isn’t feeling optimistic at all.

Now— it iss not as if they have never been apart. Well, they have only been dating for nine months— have known each other for barely over two years. But there is something in their connection, something in the feelings they share that pains their hearts to be apart even for a short while. But it isn’t mistrust or insecurity, no— they’ve crossed that hurdle months ago. Just— the amount of comfort that Taehyung radiates, the safety Seokjin feels in his presence— it’s immeasurable, addictive even.

However, with all that being said, Seokjin is not a kid. Even with his boyfriend gone for the weekend, he would be fine, of course he would. It was just a matter of two days, then Taehyung would be next to him again. He finishes mentally hyping himself up and pushes his body off the bed. He will be okay.

He is not okay.

Seokjin groans as he presses the button of the coffee machine for the fiftieth time but to no avail. The machine is still as a leaf on a dry autumn day, no signs of the whirring and spluttering he is used to waking up to. Frustrated, he whacks the side of it and plops onto the kitchen floor, he’ll just order Starbucks, that’s all, no big deal. He has always hated the coffee machine anyway.

Lunch, is a peculiar affair.

Seokjin loves cooking— he really does. And if he loves something more than that, it’s having his kitchen all to himself. Taehyung, no offence to him but he is— a disaster in the kitchen, to say the least. Seokjin makes sure to keep him out of the vicinity of the flame and knives at all times lest the clumsy (and handsy— oh so handsy) boy get them in any danger. Taehyung doesn’t always comply though, of course. Seokjin has spent many a morning cooking breakfast with a clingy Taehyung plastered to his back, muttering strings of praises about how wide his shoulders are and how good his cooking is, but he knows it’s all just Taehyung’s strategy to stay close to him even while he cooks. (Seokjin falls for it every time— but it is not his fault. He tries his best, really.)

Yet, right now, when he has the whole kitchen to himself, all the beautiful supplies and his favourite knives and his grandma’s recipe book available to be used freely— Seokjin just stares at the emptiness and groans. He really hates it when Taehyung pesters him while he’s cooking but— something does seem off today. Perhaps it’s the weather? He shakes his head and gets to work.

He’s only chopped up the vegetables for his kimchi bokumbap (which— it’s not like he’s too sad to make anything more complicated, okay, it’s just— why bother when he’s the only one eating? Right.) when his phone tings with a notification. He throws the knife aside and grabs the device, expecting it to be Taehyung ranting about how he’s stuck at work on the weekend.

Kim Taehyung

Hey boyfriend. Miss me? ;)

Seokjin rolls his eyes. (He fucking loves this man.)

You

In your dreams. -.- I’m busy cooking myself food *without any interruptions* for once. B)

<pic attached>

Kim Taehyung

Well, good for you. Meanwhile I’m stuck at this shitty conference eating shitty hotel food alone. 😔

Seokjin’s mood instantly changes. Suddenly, he isn’t really that hungry anymore.

You

Hey. Are you really upset? :(

Kim Taehyung

HAH! GOTCHA ;)))

You

ASS. -_-

And so the day progresses. Seokjin does end up eating cup ramen for lunch because why cook for one person, really, (He’s just being mindful of the world’s dwindling energy resources, okay?) and he spends the rest of the afternoon on their favourite couch, sorting through his and Taehyung’s videos and photos from their vacation a month ago. (The hundreds of silly clips are really eating up his phone’s memory okay— no other reasons here.)

By the time it’s late evening, he’s already sent Taehyung twenty texts in an hour asking him what he’s up to and if he’s eaten anything but all he gets is radio silence. He supposes the younger is busy and has his notifications silenced, which is okay— they often silence notifications when at work but Seokjin is concerned so he keeps his phone right next to him at all times and totally does not check his notifications every five minutes.

Eventually, his stomach gives him an embarrassingly loud reminder about dinner so he makes a lightning fast meal of bokumbap (yes he does reach for the cup ramen first— but it really is unhealthy so he figures the world won’t end if he cooks one actual meal for himself). He eats it in silence (and isery. Loneliness, despair) for a few minutes, before giving up and playing one of Taehyung’s song covers in the background. Good music is always a necessity with good food after all, right? Right.

By the time it’s bedtime, Seokjin has had enough. Why the hell is Taehyung so busy that he doesn’t have time to reply to one text of his? (Is he overworking himself again? Oh dear lord.)

He gets in bed and dials Taehyung’s number, ready to give him a nice lecture about how important it is to take breaks and how can you be so careless when I’m not even there to take care of you? Thankfully, Taehyung picks up after the first ring.

“Where—”

“Oh perfect timing! Open the door please, will you?” Taehyung answers before Seokjin can even begin expressing his (very fake) rage.

Seokjin totally does not leap out of bed and sprint to the door. Not at all.

“Wow that was quick —”

“You absolute idiot —”

Well, the next thing Taehyung knows, his bag is thrown to the side, he’s pulled (rather roughly) inside and a not-so-tiny man is trying to possibly choke him in a hug so tight— he actually has to ask for a time-out to breathe.

“Easy, easy—”

“You were supposed to come back tomorrow, right? How come you’re here now? And why weren’t you seeing my texts— oh wait you were probably on a flight— but you could’ve told me, right? God I absolutely despise your annoying ass do you have any idea what I was going through—”

Seokjin is out of breath, Taehyung is too, but from laughing.

“—what’s so funny.” Seokjin furrows his brows, pinches Taehyung’s stomach in annoyance.

“Ow! Hey— did you— did you really miss me so much, hyung?” he says, grabbing Seokjin’s hand and closing in towards him again. Seokjin rolls his eyes in disbelief.

Miss you?! I was having the time of my life, babe. Do you even know how much you annoy me?” he scoffs, flicks at the younger’s forehead playfully.

“Aw. Really, Seokjin-hyung?” Taehyung looks up at him all starry-eyed, fingers fiddling with the tips of his hair and— well. Seokjin isn’t God’s strongest soldier.

“Well, only sometimes,” he says, his restlessness already fading away now that his boyfriend is back in his arms.

“Soooo you did miss me a lot,” Taehyung smirks. Seokjin sighs.

“Yes,” he mumbles. (He’s a weak man, it’s not his fault!?)

“What was that again?” Taehyung teases, long fingers hooked under Seokjin’s chin as he clasps his other hand around the elder’s waist.

“I missed you, idiot.” Seokjin says, this time looking straight into Taehyung’s eyes before leaning in for a kiss.

“Missed you more,” Taehyung giggles, slings both arms around Seokjin’s neck and nudges their noses together.

“Mmm. Gross,” Seokjin mutters, cheeks pink like roses, smile evident in his voice. He kisses Taehyung again, and again, and again, until he yawns in Seokjin’s face and they both erupt into giggles at the same time.

“Wanna get in bed and cuddle-battle who makes the other fall asleep first?” Seokjin says, pulling Taehyung in a hug and walking him towards the bedroom.

“Sounds like a plan,” Taehyung mumbles, face buried in the elder’s neck, happily getting dragged along with him.

(Seokjin wins the cuddle-battle and falls asleep looking at Taehyung’s serene sleeping face. Best end to the weekend, he thinks.)
