Chapter 1: Nightmare

Chapter Text

“Princess Daisy, Do you take Luigi to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?”

Luigi anxiously smoothed out the crinkles in his frilly white wedding gown, looking up at me with expectant and sparkly eyes.
Luigi is the kindest, sweetest man in the entire world, and I just couldn’t think of a life without him. I straightened my bow tie and smiled.

But before I could say “I do”, Luigi’s jaw went slack and unhinged, a quiet humming noise rose from his throat.

“L-Luigi?”

I reached out and put my hand on his shoulder, but it felt unsteady and shaky. His eyes became empty-looking and his body went limp.

Tears welled in my eyes. This couldn’t be happening, this couldn’t be real!
Luigi’s skin flickered in and out of existence before disappearing altogether, letting his white gown fall to the floor.
“Luigi?!?! Luigi, honey, what’s going on?!?”
At the word “honey” the gown began to shake, slowly rising into the air. A loud buzz filling the massive cathedral.

Luigi had turned into a swarm of bees.

The bees swarmed around me, trapping me in place. The buzzing was so loud it made my brain rattle. I felt them flying past my ears, circling, and keeping me trapped.
I tried to scream for someone to help but my voice was drowned out by the hum.
Just as Mario ran up to the altar to shoo the bees away, the floor turned into bees and we all fell down into the dark abyss below the chapel.

I awoke with my heart beating faster than a 200cc Kart.

“H- Holy shit...”

I wiped the sweat off my forehead and took in my surroundings. Just my bedroom, nothing special. I looked down at my hand. No wedding ring.
It was just a dream.

The buzzing sound had really been my phone. Someone had been calling me.
I picked up the vibrating hunk of metal, still breathing heavily from the dream.

“Hello?”

“H-Hey bestie.”

Peach’s voice was groggy and weak. Her voice was full of strain.

“I’m a little bit sick today... You’ll have to find someone else to be your tennis partner...”

Great. Now I’ll probably end up with Toad. Toad may be a very kind little man, but HOLY SHIT does he suck at tennis.

Hiding my frustration, I smiled and replied,
“No problem Peachy! Wish me luck! Feel better soon!”
