Work Text:

Marinette stared at the Lucky Charm that dropped in her hands.

“Meow, m’lady, don’t shoot me!” Chat said instantly and she looked up to see him lifting his hands up with a laugh.

“Kitty, come on. I’m not shooting anyone. This…” She turned the revolver around in her hands. “Has to have another point.”

“You can also bonk me on the head with it, but please don’t,” her partner pleaded again.

“Why do you think I’m looking for an excuse to hurt you?” She muttered while trying to figure out what to do.

“Because I'm your annoying partner?” His reply sounded only a little like a joke, so she made a note to talk to him about that.

Suddenly she realised what she needed to do. A revolver had a bullet full of gunpowder, which could be lit up and cause a spark.

“So you want to blow up the neighbourhood?” Chat looked a little taken aback when she explained. “I know the Miraculous Ladybugs fix everything but are you sure?”

She waved his worries off.

“It’s an insignificant amount, it can’t cause real damage. But it would work as a distraction.”

They worked fast and as usual her plan went without a hitch.

“Boom! And it’s done,” Chat grinned when she freed the dark butterfly. She laughed at his enthusiasm as she cleansed the akuma.

“A bit like fireworks. You probably like them,” she teased him.

“Maybe. They are colourful and pretty,” he shrugged. “But a bit too loud.”

Marinette threw the revolver in the air and watched with a smile as everything around them went back to how it had been before the akuma attack.

“I’m glad no one got shot,” Chat sighed in relief. Which reminded her.

“By the way,” she said, rising on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek. He was gaping at her when she pulled back, making her giggle.

“What was that for?” He looked giddy and shier than she’d ever seen him. It caused something deep inside of her to stir.

“Just so you know that you don’t annoy me. Not always,” she added with a wink. “Pound it.”

She unfurled her yo-yo but before she left, she looked over her shoulder and found him looking at her with the softest expression.

It was enough to make her keep smiling all the way home and long after that.
