Despite Kiyoomi's love for places without germs, the hospital is definitely somewhere he hates.
He would never really admit it but they scare him, the connotations of illness and grief always hit him like a freight train whenever he has to walk through the doors which granted isn't very often but somehow always manages to involve the man he's here to see.
But, when he'd gotten the call an hour previous that Atsumu had been rushed to hospital during his visit to Osamu and Suna's, a visit Kiyoomi was meant to be at but had been running late from Christmas shopping, of course he had rushed there as soon as he had calmed himself down from the panic attack he knew was brewing across his body.
Especially two weeks before Christmas, the hospital seemed even more packed than usual, there were people all around the waiting area, only half of which seemed to have masks on which bothered Kiyoomi more than he wanted to show.
"I'm here to see Miya Atsumu," Kiyoomi mumbled to the woman at the reception who looked like she'd rather be anywhere else. Kiyoomi couldn't say he blamed her.
"Floor 3, room 312, there's a family room located near the room as there still isn't visitors allowed at this moment because he's still in theatre." Kiyoomi nodded, showing a smile before he rushed off towards the stairs, he took them two at a time in his rush to see his boyfriend, though he couldn't see his boyfriend, he wanted to make sure Osamu and Suna were okay too, it must have been a traumatic few hours.
Kiyoomi burst into the room labelled family, attracting not only the attention of his own family but also the other family that were huddled in the corner. He bowed slightly in apology before heading over to where Osamu and Suna were curled up on a small couch, Suna had his head laid in Osamu's lap whilst he brushed his fingers through his hair but he moved his feet of the other end to make room for Kiyoomi, resting a hand on his knee.
"What happened?" Kiyoomi asked, he could feel his heart still beating rapidly in his chest.
"Well, when he arrived he looked pale and tired and we knew he hasn't had much of an apatite lately," Osamu explained and Kiyoomi nodded along, it had been at the forefront of his anxieties for a while now. "So, we offered to just stay at the flat and hang out and then it all seemed to go wrong so quickly, one second he was falling asleep, the next second he was vomiting in the bathroom."
"We were going to wait for you to come when he started sobbing about the pain," Suna whispered, "but we couldn't just leave him like that, I'm sorry."
"Don't apologise, it's okay," Kiyoomi reassured his best friend gently.
He couldn't lie to himself, he was angry. Not at Atsumu or Osamu or Rin but at himself. He knew something had been wrong for a few days, Atsumu had been a lot quieter than normal, not really eating much, sleeping a lot more when they got out of practice and had complained a couple of times about a stomach bug but Kiyoomi just thought it was his anxiety acting up. Of course, he made sure to keep an eye on him, sat with him and rubbed his back and stomach when he needed it but he didn't think it was something so bad and now he was in hospital where he should have been a few days ago apart from the fact Kiyoomi hadn't done more, assuming it would stop within a few days.
"Kiyoomi, you're thinking too loud," Osamu mumbled, bringing him back down to Earth.
The weight had disappeared from his lap, he was so focused in on his self doubt that he hadn't even noticed Suna move from his spot.
"He went to the bathroom," Osamu answered the question hanging in the air. "He's having a hard time. He stayed with Atsumu whilst I called the ambulance and then I'm pretty sure he went into some kind of shock and I don't know how to help him or my brother," he trailed off at the end and Kiyoomi knew he was holding back tears, he was honestly shocked he hadn't started crying himself; it was the shock he'd decided.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there," Kiyoomi whispered, letting the tears finally fall. "He must have been so scared and I wasn't even there."
"Hey," Suna said, coming back towards the two of them and taking up his previous position. "Don't blame yourself. Atsumu wouldn't want that and neither do we." He said firmly, looking at Kiyoomi.
"I just want to see him."
"We all do," Suna assured him, resting his hand on Kiyoomi's knee again. "But you can't go down the road of blaming yourself Kiyoomi, seriously."
It felt like time was going by at the slowest possible pace to Kiyoomi. His knee twitched like it wanted to jiggle up and down like it always did whilst he was anxious but he still had Suna's legs resting across his lap which meant he couldn't and he was thankful for that, it was one of his least favourite anxious habits. He couldn't stop thinking about his fiancé, how scared he must have been, how he probably thought he was going to die, how scared Osamu must have been seeing his twin in that state, how scared Suna must have been when Osamu made the call and Kiyoomi was going to go over and complain about the amount of people in town.
Atsumu could have died and he wasn't even there.
He would never forgive himself for that.
"Is anyone here for Miya Atsumu?" Kiyoomi had never stood up faster, whispering an apology to Suna who wasn't expecting the change as he walked to the nurse.
"We are," Osamu replied, coming to stand next to Kiyoomi, Suna wrapped around his arm.
"Atsumu is in his room now. The surgery went without any complications and he's just recovering. You're welcome to go and sit with him whilst we wait for him to wake up. He needs to wake up on his own and when he does, please call a nurse."
"Thank you," Kiyoomi whispered, following the other two out of the door and towards Atsumu's room.
"Is your mum coming?" He asked Suna ask as he sat down on the chair closest to Atsumu's side.
"Yeah tomorrow." Suna nodded, sitting down with Osamu on the other side of Atsumu's bed, resting his head against Osamu's shoulder. Kiyoomi was sure it was to comfort Osamu more than himself.
The three of them sat in a comfortable silence, watching the sleeping figure on the bed. Kiyoomi had subconsciously gripped Atsumu's hand in his own, willing the man to wake up, he just wanted to look at Atsumu's eyes again. Wanted him to make some stupid joke about the situation to make everyone feel better, he missed him so much and he had only been without him for a few hours.
Kiyoomi couldn't tell how much time had passed whilst the three of them sat in that room. Someone tried to tell them visiting hours were over but none of them budged and they eventually gave up telling them. Kiyoomi knew that somebody needed to be there when Atsumu woke up, he would surely be scared waking up in the hospital, he'd think everyone had left him and Kiyoomi wasn't having that and neither were Osamu or Suna.
"O-Omi O-Omi," Kiyoomi's head snapped up from where he had almost fallen asleep in his chair to see Atsumu looking back at him.
"Atsu," Kiyoomi breathed, waking up the other two who had fallen asleep leaning against one another. "Atsu, you're awake."
"Hey Omi," he whispered, voice hoarse from disuse. "W-What happened?"
"You scared the shit out of us, that's what happened," Osamu replied, "why didn't you tell us how much pain you were really in stupid?! Ya could have DIED! If ya hadn't been at our apartment, Kiyoomi would have come back to well who knows, for fuck sake 'Tsumu, why can't ya just tell us when something is wrong? Instead of hiding it until ya appendix burst!" Osamu shouted.
Kiyoomi was aware they could be waking up other people on the ward but he didn't think Osamu cared about that.
"Samu, calm down," Suna instructed, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
"Rin, he scared ya half to death!"
"I know that and I'm sure he feels bad enough as it is without us yelling at him."
"I'm sorry," Kiyoomi turned his attention back to Atsumu, reaching over to wipe a tear from his cheek. "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry, I didn't want to be a burden."
"Atsu," Kiyoomi whispered, standing up and resting a hand on Atsumu's cheek. "You are never ever going to be and never ever have been a burden. Love, you need to tell somebody when things are bad, like 'Samu said, if you had been on your own, you could have died and I know you were scared and I'm sorry I wasn't there but please Atsu, you can tell any of us when something is wrong."
"Sorry."
"Stop apologising ya scrub," Osamu whispered, gently throwing his arms around his twin. "I'm sorry for yelling at ya, I was scared. Can't believe ya tried to ruin Christmas."
"I know, it's okay," Atsumu replied, letting himself be pulled into a gentle hug by Suna next.
When it was Kiyoomi's turn, he was sure he wasn't ever going to let Atsumu go. He wanted to hold him forever. The thought of loosing him had become too much and he was suddenly very aware of the tears that were falling down his cheeks.
Atsumu was the most important person in Kiyoomi's life and he was determined to never let him go through anything alone again.
A nurse was called, she checked Atsumu over and made sure he was okay, gave him some painkillers and left again before Atsumu fell asleep again, leaving the three of them in their silence again.
But this time it felt okay because Atsumu was okay.
