Kris and Susie looked at each other, a knowing glint in both their eyes and they ran into the storage closet. Kris flipped in the air as they fell while Susie whooped with excitement. They were back in the Dark World at last!
Kris didn’t even have time to fully stand up before Susie grabbed their arm and dragged them forward. A small smile rested on their face.
Recently, the foreign soul in their body had left them alone. It still moved around from time to time, but it mostly seemed uninterested in controlling Kris after they kept taking it out whenever they had the chance. And yes, while the soul did help them make some new friends, Kris wanted the control over their body back. And now that Kris got it, the first thing they wanted to do was go to Castle Town.
Even though it was a Saturday.
When they suggested their idea to Susie earlier that day, she was thrilled.
“Are you suggesting… We sneak into school? On a Saturday?”
Kris nodded.
Susie looked thoughtful for a moment, before grinning.
“HELL YEAH! I’m totally down for that! What time?”
The duo met later, when the sun started to set, so they could sneak into the school under the cover of night. Kris told Toriel that they were staying over at Susie’s house, and Susie told her grandma that she would be back later.
And that’s how Kris found themself being dragged through Castle Town by Susie.
But Kris straightened when they entered, seeing something off.
There was a thick smoke blanketing the town, causing most of its inhabitants to be inside.
Susie stopped to look around. “Kris… You’re seein’ this, right?”
They nodded.
Both lighteners slowly walked forward, until they saw a familiar figure standing in the smoke.
“Hey! Queen!” Susie called out.
“Hello Kris And Susie” Queen looked down at them when she heard them approaching, sipping on her battery acid.
“Do you know what this smoke is?”
“No Lmao” Queen responded, “LMAO” displayed across the screen on her face.
“Thanks, you’re a real help.” Susie grumbled sarcastically, “I guess we’ll keep looking.”
“Good Luck” The Queen called to them as they kept walking past.
The two walked to the doors of the castle in silence.
“Ralsei’ll probably know what the hell this is.”
The two stepped into the castle and were met with nothing but the mist becoming thicker. No prince to greet them, no sound at all.
“What the hell… Lancer? Raslei?”
No answer.
Kris tapped Susie’s shoulder and signed to her.
[We should split up.]
“I take the first floor, you take the basement?”
Kris nodded in response.
[Meet back here in 10? And look for each other if we’re not back?]
“Sounds good. See ya!” Susie sped upstairs, leaving Kris alone to enter the dungeon. They made their way down the stairs, briefly stopping in front of the kings who called out to them to ask questions.
“Lightner, what is this smoke?!” They shrugged at the King of Hearts.
“Hey, how’s my treasure?! Is it still shiny?!” They gave a thumbs up to the King of Diamonds, despite not knowing anything about said treasure.
“Is my daughter okay? Keep her in her room, she cannot be out with this air quality!” They nodded at the King of Clubs. They hadn’t seen Clover anywhere, so they assumed that she was already in her room.
They kept walking forward, and they stopped in front of the King of Spades. They stared at him and he turned to face them, scoffing once he saw who it was.
“No, I don’t know what the source of the smoke is.” He grumbled at their unspoken question. Kris stared for a few seconds more, before walking past him and checking the dungeon.
No Ralsei, no Lancer.
They left, then they decided to look around the first floor while waiting for Susie.
Nothing.
They even tried breaking down the locked doors in the middle, but they wouldn’t budge.
“Hey Kris!” Susie called as she hopped down the stairs, Lancer sitting on her shoulders, “I found Lancer!”
“Hello blue person that I know the name of!” He waved.
Kris smiled and waved back.
“Could ya find anything?”
Kris shook their head. [I was trying to open these doors to check there, but they’re locked.]
“They’re locked? Let me try!” Susie pulled out her axe, and fired a Rude Buster at it as Lancer cheered. The doors groaned, but didn’t break. Which caused Susie to keep doing the same thing, until the doors shattered.
The room behind was pitch black.
Kris suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of dread. They slowly, carefully walked forward, their heart hammering in their chest as their hands started to shake. They could only imagine what they could find behind those doors. They could only hope it wasn't as bad as they thought as they walked in, Susie and Lancer in tow.
Nothing could prepare the three for what they saw when the lights flicked on.
Ralsei…
Was smoking a fat blunt?!
