Work Text:
Class 1-A are stuck in zoom class until the school has been able to sanitize everything and they are able to slow the spread enough to return to in person instruction. Bets had been made in their group chat about what Mr. Aizawa’s home would look like and how much would they be able to see.
Tokoyami, Denki, and Uraraka were certain it would look like Tokoyami’s dorm room. Mineta was sure there was going to be at least one dirty picture in his living space.
Kouda was sure there would be at least one cat.
Jirou was sure there were gonna be three.
Mina had bet that their teacher wouldn’t even bother to get out of the bed.
Kiri had then responded that he wouldn’t even have a bed, he would just be in his sleeping bag. Someone had joked that their teacher would be in a cafe or something with free wifi.
Midoriya’s mom had agreed to let Uraraka come over for class because of her poor internet quality. Both of them and their families had even agreed to get tested daily and his mom would pick her up and drop her off so she wouldn’t risk being exposed. Even Kacchan asked if he could join them if his mom gets too loud for the zoom call.
That first class is a mess. Everyone was examining everything about the rooms people were in. Tokoyami could barely be seen in his dark bedroom, his feathers blending with the wall behind him.
Kouda’s bunny keeps sniffing at the camera.
Tsu’s siblings keep interrupting her by walking into the room and across the view of her camera.
Then finally they see the joining audio under the little black box that says Shouta Aizawa.
At first they think he is going to keep his camera off, but suddenly bright colors fill the screen.
He’s in a kitchen it seems. Modern appliances dot the walls. A relatively warm colored backsplash visible behind him. And decent lighting.
And Mr. Aizawa is a sore dark cloud standing out against it.
Class continues like normal. A few dollars exchange hands and people try to argue that the kitchen clearly didn’t belong to him. He was likely using one of the other teachers' places. But they are talked over in the chat.
The next few days of lessons go normally, until Thursday. This time when his camera turns on he’s in a study or home office of some sort. The shelves are covered in books on a variety of topics and a few snow globes.
The glare he gives them when they ask is enough to keep them silent.
The next day, they’re in what seems to be the den. In the corner of the screen they can see a guitar.
“Mr. Aizawa! Do you play the guitar?” Mina asks as soon as they clock it.
“Miss Ashido, please don’t interrupt class again. But no. A friend of mine left it here last time they visited,” he says, and they’re about to ask more questions because a friend? He has friends? How?
“CAT!” Kaminari says, and sure enough they can see a small grey cat slinking it’s way into frame. The cat seems to catch sight of the screen and it stretches out towards it.
“Yes. This is Melody. She’s going away now,” Mr. Aizawa says, and picks up the cat and puts her out of view.
“You named your cat Melody?”
“No. A friend did. You should ask Midnight the name of her cat. It’s weirder,” he says. And class continues like that for the rest of the week.
They do ask Midnight about her cat which leads to her going to get him and show him off.
Honestly Sushi is a better name for a cat.
Her home is actually pretty normal considering her style and way of speaking. Brown walls with gentle lighting.
To Mineta's horror she never holds class in her bedroom.
She does show them Sushi every day.
That's nice.
But the weird shit that happens with Aizawa keeps happening. More odd stuff belonging to his friend keeps showing up. The guitar, boots that Mr. Aizawa trips over, a basket of laundry.
One lesson he does finally hold it in his bedroom and they are surprised to find their rough gruff teacher has fairy lights strung around the room.
When they try to question him they are interrupted by a loud scream.
"Stay on the call. I'll handle it." He says.
"Should we call more pros?" Iida asks.
"No. It's just my husband. He probably saw a bug and needs me to kill it or something," Aizawa says and vanishes from the room.
They all stare at each other and their image of their teacher's room.
"He...he's married?" Kaminari says.
"I didn't expect that," Tsu says.
"I think it's manly."
"You think everything is manly." Bakugou says.
"So?"
Before anything else can say anything. They see Aizawa come back into the room and open the window seemingly to let something outside.
"There. No more spiders. I don't know why you won't let me kill them." He says to someone off camera.
"Because they're horrible and I hate them. But they still deserve to live," a familiar voice says. But no one can place it.
“Are you okay now?”
“Yeah. I’m going to let you get back to class. I am sure your kids are all very confused.” The mystery person chuckles and they hear the bedroom door open and clothes and then Aizawa is sitting down again.
“Okay where were we,” Aizawa asks.
“Mr. Aizawa? Can you tell us about your husband?” Kaminari the brave and stupid soul asks.
“No. Any more questions not about this lesson will result in a pop quiz.”
There are no more questions.
Weird things keep happening. In one video they see another guitar, this one smaller than the one before. They also see a piano. One day they see a leather jacket too small to be worn by Mr. Aizawa.
They see Dolls as well. Cute ones with pretty clothes and ribbons in their hair sitting in random areas of the house.
They find out why.
It’s a lesson on vigilantes and why they are legally wrong and morally wrong when they hear giggling.
“Eri? What are you doing that has you giggling?”
“Maybe lunch for you,” she says and they watch Mr. Aizawa relax, “Dad, how do I turn on the stove?” Eri follows up and suddenly Aizawa is launching himself out of frame.
After some giggling and something that sounds like an oomph Mr. Aizawa comes back into frame with Eri. She smiles and waves when she sees them.
“Mr. Aizawa, what is she doing there with you?” Midoriya asks.
“She couldn’t stay in the dorms so, my husband and I took her in.” He says.
“Hi!” Eri says waving.
“She called you dad…” Momo says.
“We are in the process of adopting her because obviously she can’t be a ward of UA her entire life and she seems to like my Husband and I.”
“Dad and Papa are the best.”
“Go play with your brother. And tell him to stop leaving his stuff all over the place,” Mr. Aizawa says and they watch the girl run up the stairs.
“Hitoshi! Dad says to pick your stuff up!” They hear her scream as she goes.
“Anyone have any questions about vigilantes? If the question you ask is not about the topic we are covering I will give you all detention.”
No one asks a question.
The weirdest thing is when Mr. Aizawa logs on from what seems to be a soundproof room.
“Yes Kaminari?” He asks when the blonde raises a hand.
“Mr. Aizawa, why do you have a soundproof room?” They all ignore Mineta laughing on the other end of his computer.
“My husband’s job requires him to have one. He is currently cleaning the house because I removed a bug and therefore I am in here so the noise doesn’t affect the lesson.”
“What does your husband do for a living?” Mina asks.
“Today’s lesson will be about the different subcategories of heroes.”
They almost fall asleep.
Quarantine is on the rise and everyone is able to return to in person activities.
So, the first thing Class 1A, minus Mineta, does is go to a concert.
Present Mic is one of the hottest artists right now. Continuing to put out music through the Quarantine thanks to the support of his husband.
The place is packed when they get there but they maneuver their way to the front. Present Mic is on stage setting up his speakers when they get there and he seems to look right at them with a smile before going back to his work.
They see several members of the staff handing out headphones to the people in the front.
“Come on...do they really think we need those things?” Kaminari scoffs.
“Yes. You do.” A voice says. They whirl around to find Shinsou standing there, purple headphones over his ears, LED cat ears on top.
“What are you doing here?” Bakugou snaps.
“Enjoying a night out with my family,” he says.
“Hitoshi! Dad says we have to get moving if we want to find a place to stand where we can see!” Eri says, running up to him, the same headphones as Shinsou but in pink.
“Wait...Eri is your sister?”
“Yeah.”
“That means…”
“Hitoshi, Eri, what have I told you about running off in crowded...oh god I can never escape you problem children can I.” Sure enough, there’s Mr. Aizawa coming over with the same headphones in black firmly over his ears.
“Mr. Aizawa?” Midoriya says, as Kaminari fights to keep from laughing.
“Sorry Dad. But I didn’t think you would want your class to be deafened so I was trying to tell them to put on the headphones.”
“Ah. Yes. Mic’s music is loud and so is his Quirk.”
“How do you know?” Jirou asks.
“We went to UA together. I fought him one on one in the Sport’s Festival...but he decided music was his passion. Trust me you want the headphones,” Aizawa says.
“Why are yours different?” Izuku asks.
“Because we come to enough of these shows to need our own sets, we decided to do matching family ones,” Shinsou says.
“Shhhh it’s starting!” Eri says, excitedly and they grab the headphones as they pass and put them on, none of them actually want to go deaf.
“Hey there! Welcome to my first concert since the Quarantine. All you rock stars out there were awesome with your support. And I couldn’t have kept doing my music if it weren’t for the support of my best friend and husband. He’s a bit shy so I won’t call him out by name but let’s give him a hand.”
Clapping goes through the audience.
And 1A share looks because they didn’t know the music star was married.
“So this first song is a cover because I know most of the kids out there were super excited about not having to go to school before the dreaded ZOOM. I know my husband was happy to miss a few days of teaching to catch up on his sleep.”
Wait a minute.
Before any of them can say anything they get distracted by the music. Shinsou and Mr. Aizawa were right. It is LOUD.
“Okay...and now for a few original songs.” he says and launches into some of the music he had released over the last few weeks.
It’s really good.
“And this last one was a completely original piece I wrote for my husband. He’s going to kill me for it but it’ll be worth it,” he says and pulls up a set of yellow headphones over his ears.
They have LED cat ears.
They found Mr. Aizawa’s husband it seems.
None of them expected it to be the hottest music sensation of their age.
But looking at the misty eyes on their teacher as Present Mic sings a gentle love ballad with several ear piercing high notes, they can’t say they don’t see the love between them.
