Work Text:
hajime rushed down the hallway of the academy, having accidentally fallen asleep during his last period and none of his classmates had remembered to wake him up, causing him to miss the bell.
damn it, he thought, i’m going to get home late without a good excuse.
the blue haired boy continued to mutter to himself under his breath, too occupied with his own thoughts to notice that someone else was rushing to turn the corner too.
hajime yelped as he felt himself crash into another person.
“oh my god” and “i’m so sorry” were the only things he could say as his cheeks burned bright red.
said person laughed it off, managing to reply “it’s alright!” in between his loud laughter. once his laughter had died down, he had shouted,
“oh, shinonon! i was looking for you!”
ah.
“akehoshi-senpai?!” he gasped, covering his eyes in embarrassment as he apologised profusely.
subaru laughed once again and assured hajime that he wasn't bothered. hajime relaxed, hurriedly getting off of subaru. he stood up, extending his hand to help the older boy up. subaru clasped his hand in his and thanked him, but when hajime tried to pull his hand back, subaru tightened his grip.
“did you need something from me, akehoshi-senpai?” hajime squeaked out.
he could feel his heart beat in his throat. being this close to subaru had been everything he ever wanted, though whenever subaru initiated anything between them, he tended to shy away due to the intensity of his heart beat. he was sure the other boy could hear how frantically it was thumping in his chest.
their relationship was a weird one. though they had both confessed their feelings to each other, hajime didn’t know if they were officially a couple or not. he didn’t have the courage to ask, either.
he envied subaru for how freely he was able to speak his mind. it never failed to surprise hajime just how forward the other boy could be. it was as if embarrassment simply didn’t exist for him.
“i don’t need anything in particular,” subaru’s voice broke hajime from his train of thought,
“i just wanted to know if i could walk you
home.” subaru smiled awkwardly, and hajime’s eyes widened at the soft red that slowly made its way to subaru’s cheeks.
hajime watched silently as subaru avoided eye contact, fiddling with hajime’s fingers while waiting patiently for a response.
is he…nervous?
hajime giggled, softly shaking his head as the red on subaru’s cheeks darkened. he dropped hajime’s hand, turning away from him to hide his face.
“sorry that was a stupid question- eh?” subaru cut himself off as hajime slid his hand back into his.
subaru hesitantly looked back, the expression on hajime’s face oddly calm as he nodded his head, the shy smile he wore grew bigger.
“let’s walk together.” he spoke, his voice more confident than it had been before.
his heart was still beating rapidly, and his palms were still sweaty. though subaru’s red cheeks and and jittery hands made him feel at peace, knowing he wasn’t the only one who was nervous.
