Hanging out at Marinette’s after a battle was now routine. They'd have a snack, do a recap and sometimes lick their wounds.
After one fight, the moment he detransformed, Adrien stretched his tired muscles. Yes, the suits protected from really getting hurt but the burn was still real.
“You act like a cat even when you’re not transformed,” Marinette called to him and he chuckled. Until a hand on his arm made him pause. A finger traced something he couldn’t see where his short sleeve rode up.
“What is it?” He asked.
“A ghastly blue bruise,” she said, sympathy in her voice. Ouch. So this was why his upper arm felt so stiff.
“It’s nothing,” he said quickly, but when he looked back at her he found her looking rather skeptical. “Nothing I’m not used to,” he amended.
“Let me.”
He watched her go to her desk and reach into a drawer, pulling out a bottle of something. She made him sit on her chaise lounge, while moving the sleeve out of the way.
“You took that for me,” she mumbled. It was true. He’d seen the villain aiming at her, their stuff about to hit her and he’d moved without hesitation.
“That’s my job, m’lady,” he replied, sighing as her fingers spread a bit of lotion on the tender skin. “Also, you’re not unscathed every time.” He’d seen enough bruises on her as well.
She didn’t say anything, just gently spread the lotion, until it was absorbed.
“I don’t know if it will help but…”
She put the cap back on the lotion and put it aside. She was biting her lip and he knew she was reliving that same moment again. Thinking if there had been a way to avoid it. This was why she was trying to make it up to him for something that wasn’t her fault. This and her just being the best girlfriend, nursing his not so real wounds.
“It already helped. It’s you taking care of me that matters the most to me,” he said, gently pulling her into his arms.
“Oh, kitty,” she smiled, her arms circling his neck. "How about a kiss to improve the effect?" When she kissed him, he all but forgot about the fight or the lingering stiffness in his arm. She was the best remedy for every ache, no matter whether it was emotional or physical.
At least now she could do this and he knew it meant as much to her as it did to him. It was different when he didn’t disappear into the night in an unknown direction for her, to lick his own wounds.
Her arms tightened around him, not even careful around his bruise, but he didn’t mind, his embrace was equally strong. A single kiss quickly turned into more.
When he got home, he couldn’t say which had helped - the lotion or the kisses, but he felt much better. Maybe both were a safe guess.
