Work Text:
“Have you ever thought of - forever?” Corpse asks out of nowhere, eyes focused on the starry night above, the question meant for the boy laying on the grass next to him.
It was a cloudless night, not so cold and not so warm. Pretty good for a stroll in the park, or star watching in their case.
They hadn’t planned it. They just looked at each other and decided there is no way they’re going to sleep anytime soon tonight, and so chose to leave the house for a bit and maybe buy some ice creams.
Half an hour later and here they were, with their stomachs filled with cold snacks and lying on the grass in pleasant silence.
Sykkuno hums. “Like - us ? Us forever?”
Corpse hums back, fighting the urge to turn and see the other man's reaction. “Yeah…” His heart starts to beat faster as silence drags on.
“I did.” Sykkuno murmurs and Corpse’s heart makes a flip.
“Really?”
“Yeah,” He huffs a bashful laugh. “Why do you ask so all of a sudden?”
Corpse just shrugs. “I don’t know,” ok that wasn’t exactly the truth. “I just… it’s just that I think of it a lot myself, you know?” He then turns his head to look at the beautiful man next to him. “I think I like the idea,” he mumbles softly, eyes catching the brunet’s dark pearls as he turns to look at him as well. “Us forever.”
Sykkuno blinks at him slowly and it reminds Corpse of a cat. “Do you?”
“Yeah.”
The elder's smile is as soft as cotton candy. Corpse wants to kiss it right off his face, wondering if it tastes as sweet too. “Me too.”
They stare at each other for a bit more, then go back to watching the stars.
“I don’t think,” The raven starts slowly. “I can ever love anyone the way I love you.”
His boyfriend squeaks in surprise from next to him and Corpse looks at him from the corner of his eyes to see the roses blooming under his skin. He smiles secretly, he doesn’t think he ever gets over the way Sykkuno gets flustered from his words alone.
And just because he loves making his boyfriend blush he keeps going. “It’s like, I didn’t even know what it’s like to be in love until I met you ,” He feels his heart swirl around in his chest, like a little girl in a flower field, happy and content. “I didn’t even realize I fell until it was already too late. And now I don't think I can ever stop.”
He turns his head to see the way Sykkuno is now red to his ears, his shoulders rise up to hide his cheeks as he feels the other’s gaze. He giggles bashfully and Corpse is falling falling falling ...
“Stoooop,” He draws out meekly, and he might act embarrassed but Corpse can see the way his lips twitch around a happy smile.
Corpse now has that smile on his face that all their friends call him a ‘simp’ for, so smitten and gone. “I just told you, I can’t.”
That gets another burst of giggles out of his boy, sleep deprived and breathless.
Finally, as the brunet’s low giggle’s diedown, Corpse allows himself to admit to his fears.
“Sometimes... It scares me.” His weak words are now out in the air, and he hates how much more real they seem.
He can feel the other turn to look at him but he doesn’t look back. “...Why?”
He swallows. “What if we - change?”
The other hums. “Well, not all changes are bad.”
“I know.” He insists weakly. “But it’s scary.”
“It is.” The brunet agrees easily. “But as long as we do it together and for the better, then there’s nothing to worry about, right?”
“It’s just…” He pauses, feeling silly even before he says his reason. “What if it all runs out one day? What if it just… stops?”
Sykkuno simply scuffs at that. “Love doesn’t just stop . At least not the real kind.”
Corpse raises an eyebrow at that. “Then why does it happen to so many people?”
The other shrugs. “Maybe they’re not doing it right.”
Corpse turns to give him an amused look. “And how would you do it right ?” He teases him. “Please do elaborate.”
Sykkuno giggles at that again and Corpse can’t help but chuckle as well, his laughs are contagious like that. Or maybe Corpse is just a simp.
Sykkuno then hums as he thinks over the question. “A long time ago,” he starts quietly, “I remember reading something about what being in love means,” He tilts his head. “It said that being in love is not just about falling in love, that’s just the first step. Because when you fall in love, you get to see how special your partner is to you for the very first time. Like truly see it, that’s when you feel yourself fall.”
Corpse hums to tell him to keep going, now truly interested to see where this is all going.
“It’s not all happy. There are sad times, down moments, fights and arguments. Not everything is rainbows and butterflies. There are times when you just get so mad at your lover, as if you hate them! But that’s simply because you forgot how much you love them. Why you love them. Putting things above your love for each other, above your relationship and everything you have together, build together. At those moments, talking together is the only thing that can save you.”
Corpse pause to think over that for a second. He doesn’t really remember such moments in their relationship, maybe because it was only a year. Or maybe just because Sykkuno had always been his top priority. Corpse always gave his all when it came to loving Sykkuno.
“It’s not all passion and fire either. If you go too fast, too hard, you might eventually burn yourself out. But that’s ok too. As long as you learn how to also love each other soft and slowly. Because not all loves are like fireworks. Some are like the slow flood of a river, filling your heart up, slow and steady.”
Sykkuno then pauses to take a deep breath and Corpse takes a moment to think over every word.
The elder then turns to look at him. “Loving someone is not just about falling and done. That's just like opening your eyes for the first time. Loving is about keeping those eyes open . To keep watching. It’s about always looking at your partner and truly seeing them. Finding another thing to love about that person everyday. New and old, physics or personality, small or big. Just something to remind yourself why you love this person the way you do.” He smiles at him softly. “And it doesn’t have to be a big deal either. A lot of people do that without even noticing, loving that one person being as easy for them as breathing.”
Corpse thinks that’s the way he loves Sykkuno.
He doesn’t stop to ask why he breathes the way he does, as much he does, when he does. Just as he didn’t stop to ask why he fell in love with the elder the way he did.
He remembers the moment he realized it. That he had fallen and he hadn’t even noticed it until his heart was filled with everything Sykkuno and no space left for anyone else.
He remembers laying in his bed, restless and tired, wanting to sleep so bad but insomnia enabling him to do so. He remembers the first thought in his mind being to call Sykkuno.
He recalls the groggy deep voice of the elder ringing in his ears as he assured him that he hadn’t woken him up, even though they both knew it’s not true. The way he could imagine his soft smile and tired eyes when he talked with him about nothing and everything, staying up for the raven's sake even though he was so tired.
He remembers listening to the brunet’s soothing voice then his soft breathing as he eventually fell asleep on their call.
He remembers as he stared at his ceiling, and thought.
Oh.
I love him.
Then finally fell asleep to the sound of the other’s comforting breathing.
It was as easy as that, as simple. He didn’t question a thing about it. As if there was no other option than loving Sykkuno.
Because Sykkuno had waltzed into his heart so lightly as if he owned it. He had sat right in the middle of his heart so brightly as if he belonged there. And Corpse had just looked at him and thought ‘that makes sense’ .
Because loving Sykkuno was as easy as breathing and Corpse didn’t think he could ever stop without dying first.
So he told him just that. “I think that's the way I love you.” His confession rang silently in the air between them, only meant for their ears and the stars watching over them.
“Every second of every day, I would look at you, and I’d find something new to love about you.” He mumbles with a hoarse voice, feeling his heart beat faster as the other keeps staring at him with those eyes that seem to drag him in like black-holes. “Sometimes it’s just the way your hair seems fluffier, the way your voice is deeper, your smile is brighter.” He raises a hand to swipe across the others lips and feel the way they stretch under his thumb. “Sometimes it’s the way you call my name, as if it’s something special, with so much love and so much meaning behind it.” He blinks as he feels himself starting to get emotional and Sykkuno blinks back with an understanding smile.
“Sometimes it’s your passion for everything you do, sometimes the comforting looks you send my way, it’s the way you always seem to understand or at least try to when you don’t. It’s the way you cry when you’re scared or frustrated, and the way you laugh when you’re trying to make it all ok.” he leans closer to press their foreheads together, and Sykkuno closes his eyes with a shaky breath, the words affecting him as deeply. “It’s your kindness, your forgiveness, your genuineness, your excitement, your patience, your sadness, your determination, your happiness, your everything . It’s the way even your flaws make you exceptional .” Sykkuno chuckles wetly at that and Corpse smiles with adoration. “It’s the way you’re so beautiful both outside and inside.” Brown eyes open to lock in black. “And the way you never fail to amaze and leave me breathless.”
At that Sykkuno finally pushes forward to lock their lips together, maybe to actually leave him breathless.
And god does he succeed.
The kiss is slow, gentle and tender. It feels like soft rain on a summer evening and tastes like the sweetest sugar candies, delicate like butterfly wings and light like the glow of the moon watching over them.
And as they draw back to get air into their burning lungs, Corpse can’t stop staring at the way his lover’s eyes are filled with shining stars.
“I love you too,” Sykkuno murmurs softly and Corpse feels his heart flip.
Because this amazing man, this beautiful, beautiful man, loved him just the way he loved him. Just as deep, just as hard, just as real .
And Sykkuno didn’t need some kind of dramatic poetry or purple prose to describe his feelings to Corpse, as long as he looked at him like that .
Because Sykkuno’s eyes had always been the window to his soul. And that’s all Corpse ever needed to read the brunette in a way no one else could.
And right now? Sykkuno looked at him like he hung the moon and stars, like he was his world, his one very reason to live.
And that told him everything he ever needed to know and more.
Corpse really doesn’t think he can ever love anyone the way he loves this boy.
“Are you still scared?” Sykkuno asks quietly.
“ Yes .” Corpse’s answers breathlessly, feeling the way his throat tightens on itself. “Because everyday, I would open my eyes to this angelic face,” He whispers as a long finger caresses the side of his lover’s face. “And wonder just what kind of miracle made its owner love me the way I love him.”
Sykkuno smiles at him tiredly and blinks slowly, his words as soft as the lips forming them. “That’s what I ask myself too.”
Corpse scuffs at that and Sykkuno giggles. He leans to place his forehead on the raven’s broad chest. “Guess we just have to agree to disagree.” He teases and giggles again as the younger squeezes his waist with a huff.
They’re quiet for a while after that, blissful and ignorant to the rest of the world. Lying on the cold grass of a random park, under the silver shine of the moonlight, where it's just them and their love and the night sky.
Corpse wonders if the other had fallen asleep for a second.
But then Sykkuno murmurs something.
“What?” He asks with confusion, not having understood the brunet’s muffled words.
“I said,” Sykkuno draws back to look at him, words now clear as day. “Let’s get married.”
Corpse blinks.
Sykkuno blinks back.
“Like - right now ?” He sounds confused, completely caught off guard by the other’s proposal. Sykkuno just hums and Corpse gives him a look of disbelief. “Seriously?!” Sykkuno nods this time and now he wonders if he's the one who fell asleep because this has to be a dream.
“Let’s get married.” Says the brunet again, this time more firm.
The other’s calmness makes the raven’s head spin. “I, uh, don’t think that’s such a good idea.” He tries to reason, but he sounds weak even to his own ears.
“Why not?” Sykkuno asks with an innocent frown and Corpse doesn’t know if he wants to laugh or cry.
“Sykkuno, marriage isn’t a joke-”
“I’m serious-”
“No seriously, it’s a big deal!” He insists, desperate to change the other man’s mind. Because God knows his hold on his own impulse is sliping. “You can’t just get married out of impulse, that never ends well.”
“Marriage means forever,” Sykkuno concludes, Corpse nods rapidly, only to freeze upon the next set of words. “You said you thought of us forever,” He accused him. “You said you like the sound of us together forever.”
Corpse opens his mouth as if to say something, only for his mind to draw a blank as his own words are used against him.
Sykkuno looks satisfied with his reaction, strawberry pink lips stretching into a shining smile. “Then let’s get married.”
Corpse looks at his excited expression, those eager twinkling eyes, and the angelic voice that, ironically enough, is as tempting as the devil himself.
Corpse looks at his lover, actually looks at him and suddenly he can no longer remember why this is all such a bad idea.
Because Sykkuno has a point.
He always does, unfortunately.
“Rae is going to kill us.” Corpse utters weakly and Sykkuno’s smile turns into a vicious smirk as he catches on to the silent agreement.
“She gets over it,” He dismissed his worry.
“Toast will literally have my head.” He says again, this time a bit more pale in the face.
Sykkuno scuffs then pauses when he sees how worried the other really looks. He stares at him for a few seconds and Corpse squirms under his observing gaze. Finally the brunet rolls his eyes and pushes away from his arms to sit up.
Corpse sits up as quickly and feels fear pierce through his heart like cold daggers for a second, because what if Sykkuno changed his mind?
And that thought surprises him. Because, did he really want to do this?
He looks at his boyfriend sitting in front of him with his head now in his phone, fluffy tufts of brown hair falling over determined eyes, and decides that yes .
He wants to do this.
“What are you doing?”
“Calling Rae.”
Corpse’s eyes go as round as dinner plates at the casual response but before he has a chance to change his lover’s mind, Rae picks up the phone.
“ Kkuno ?” Rae’s sleepy voice greets them. “ Is everything ok? It’s-” A pause. “It’s two fucking AM!”
Sykkuno ignores her annoyance and goes straight to the point. “Will you give me your blessing if I were to get married?”
Corpse’s jaw drops from the blunt words, body going lax from the shock.
There is a pause on the other side of the line, poor Rae probably as shocked.
“Huh?” Rae sounds as confused as Corpse feels, brain not awake enough to understand the purpose of such a question at such a godly hour.
“Imagine I’m gonna get married to Corpse.” Sykkuno illustrates patiently. “Will you give me your blessing?”
Corpse’s eyes narrow at the brunet’s wording, who simply gives him an innocent smile in response.
“ Wha- I mean - yeah? Why shouldn’t I? ”
Sykkuno’s whole face lights up. “Ok, thanks Rae.”
“ Sure? ... Wait ,” She’s suddenly very alarmed. “ You’re not actually going to- ”
“Thanks for the blessing~” Sykkuno retrots cheerfully.
“Wai-!”
He recklessly hangs up on her.
Corpse just stares at him as if he can’t believe what just happened.
Sykkuno pays him no mind as he delays a new number.
“ What’s up Sykkuno? ” Toast’s casual greeting snaps the younger man out of his shock and his heart drops as he realizes what’s about to happen next.
“Hey Toast, I wanted to ask you something,”
Corpse’s eyes widen and he jumps forward to stop the other from saying his next words.
Sykkuno just pulls back his hand, and the phone in it, from his reach with a smirk.
Corpse gives him a glare that screams ‘ Don’t you dare’ .
But this is Sykkuno they’re talking about.
“I was wondering, if I were to get married, would you give me your blessing?” He repeats the same words again to their second friend and Corpse feels like he might faint.
He swears he can hear the way Toast raises an eyebrow at the question. “ It depends ,” he replies smoothly and he’s definitely more awake than Rae. Not that Corpse is surprised. Honestly, if there is anyone who’ll be awake at 2 in the morning it’s probably Toast. “ Are you gonna get married right now? ” His tone is dry and Corpse’s shoulder stiffens as Sykkuno’s ploy is exposed.
The schemer himself doesn't seem that affected though. “Probably not, Corpse doesn’t think it’s a good idea.” He deflects easily and Corpse gives him a dirty look when he’s thrown under the bus.
“ Well, he’s right .” Toast agrees coolly and Corpse relaxes from being in the clear, only to tense right back up. “ I would definitely be very mad at him if he was to elope with you without my knowledge .”
And just because Corpse is an idiot, he blurts out, “I mean, does it count as eloping if you live there-”
“ Do I look like I care ? ” Toast’s words chill him to the bone and shut him right up. Because Toast definitely doesn’t care.
Sykkuno ignores both of them. “So you won’t give your blessing.” He pressures the other.
“ As I said it depends ,” Toast retorts stubbornly. “ At the right time with the right circumstances and the right person , then yeah sure. ” He sounds very confident of his words and Corpse would have felt relaxed too,
If it wasn’t for the way his lover’s face broke into a cunning smirk, as if Toast had just said what he wanted all along.
“Well then good thing I get to decide about all those,” He remarks cheekily and Toast freezes.
“ Wait -” He shouts suddenly as he realizes he had fallen right into the brunet’s trap.
Sykkuno starts cackling. “Thanks for the blessing Toast~” He purrs the words once again with evil shining eyes.
“Sykkun-!”
He hangs up.
Then also turns off his phone for good measure.
“There!” His boyfriend says cheerfully. “I just got both their blessings.”
Corpse just stares at him in disbelief. “Pretty sure that’s not how that works.” he says faintly, Sykkuno just gives him a look as if he’s stupid.
“Sure it is. I asked them and they said yes. Easy.”
Corpse gives him a look right back. “You tricked them.”
The brunet just waves a hand at him. “ Details . What matters is that now they can't say we didn’t tell them.”
Corpse really doesn't know what to say to that.
“...You really want to do this.” He murmures after a while, more of an observation than a question.
“ Yes .” Sykkuno’s response is fast and sure. “But - not if you don’t want to, of course.”
That makes the raven pause. He looks over at his lover once again, and that’s when the realization finally sinks in.
“You thought about this,” he says in awe. “Before tonight. Like you actually thought about this.”
“Yes.”
Corpse did too. He thought about forever, he thought about proposing to the other man, he thought about getting married and a happily ever after. Though he didn’t expect it to be so soon.
Hell, he didn’t think Sykkuno would agree!
And yet here they were, with the brunet himself suggesting the idea.
“People get married for love, they get married to be together forever. that’s what marriage is literally for, right?”
Corpse swallows slowly. “I guess - you’re right.”
“Then," Sykkuno smiles, jumps up to his feet and offers him a hand. "Let’s get married.”
He stares at the hand blankly.
He tries to remember all the reasons as to why this is all such a bad idea.
He remembers nothing.
Because he loves Sykkuno and Sykkuno loves him.
Because he wants forever with this man and Sykkuno wants it too.
Because it all feels right .
And if there is one thing Corpse learned during his 24 years of living, it's to trust his gut.
And right now, his gut was screaming at him to take this man’s hand or he’ll regret it for the rest of his life.
“Ok.”
So he does because… Why not?
~o~oOo~o~
Finding a chapel to get married at was fairly easy- which made sense considering they literally lived in Vegas.
Getting married itself was even easier.
And now they were on their way back home. The cheap shining metal bands on their clapped hands, the only sign of their little impromptu decision.
Corpse had promised Sykkuno that they would get better ones later. Sykkuno, being the amazing human being that he was, had just shrugged and said that he didn’t really care. He even went as far as to call them special , in all their simple design and cheap metal glory. He said it kinda suits them. And honestly Corpse could see it, something about none of them really being one for anything too big or expensive. The rings, no matter how simple, fulfilled their purpose, which was to announce to everyone who looked their way that they were now officially taken.
Corpse was still going to buy them better ones later though. Not anything too expensive but- he figures it out later.
Right now he prefered to focus on the present and his walk back home with his husband.
Wow, Husband.
He likes that word.
He especially likes it when referred to the humming pretty brunet strutting next to him.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Sykkuno asks cheerfully, a bit unusual considering it was almost 3 AM, not that Corpse really cared. Not when his lover was smiling at him like that .
“About how much I love calling you my Husband .” He answers honestly and then smiles at the way Sykkuno blushes and giggles.
“Guess now you can say I am the real Corpse husband, huh?” He teases and Corpse wants to groan from the pun made out of his social name but he can’t do that when he’s grinning so wide himself.
“You should try to tweet that,” He suggests mischievously, eyes bright with the idea of teasing their fans and setting the poor bluebird app on fire again.
Sykkuno perks up as well, eyes lighting up at the mention of trolling and guess they really are made for each other, huh?
Corpse glances down at their clapped hands and the shining bands adoring their fingers with a smirk, well good to know.
They then keep walking home in lax motion, bodies tired from staying up for so long yet minds as awake as ever, eyes sparkling and mouths running with all the ways they could tease their fans and friends, using their new relationship.
It feels like any other night, sleepless walks and mindless talks and reckless confessions thrown at one another.
It feels so normal that Corpse almost forgets but then manages to stop Sykkuno right as they’re about to enter their house.
“What is it?” The brunet asks with curiosity and Corpse can hear the tiredness underneath. It makes him feel slightly guilty from keeping the man from the warm promise of their bed but he really wants to do this.
“Let me carry you over the threshold.”
Sykkuno blinks at him. “Huh?” and ok maybe he’s a bit more tired than he thought.
Corpse doesn't wait for an answer this time, instead he bends over and hooks his hands under his groom's knees and lifts him up to his chest.
"Eek!" Sykkuno squeaks in surprise, arms flying to wrap around his neck. "Corpse! What are you-"
Corpse just smiles at him. "Can you open the door baby?"
Brown eyebrows jump high. "Are you seriously-"
Corpse just gives him a look.
Sykkuno instantly stops arguing for the sake of trying to open the door as fast as possible, complaining under his breath and fussing over him hurting his arms.
Corpse really loves this man.
He finally steps inside their house with his new husband scooped up in his arms and puts him down right in the middle of their living room. "There." He says happily with his hands still around his man's waist and the other's arm around his neck. "Welcome home, husband ."
Sykkuno just giggles at his big goofy and self satisfied grin. "Why thank you, mr. husband ." He teases and Corpse groans again at the pun but his eyes are sparkling with mirth.
"Soooooo," The brunet drags out when they both finally stop giggling like sleep deprived idiots. "We're married now."
Corpse hums with a nod. "Yep."
"Wow…" Sykkuno says in awe and they stand there to just stare at each other a bit more.
"Is it bad," The brunet starts up again quietly. "that I don't feel married?"
The raven raises an eyebrow at that. "What do you mean? What does 'being-married' feel like anyway?"
Sykkuno just shrugs. "I donnu. I just expected it to be more… exciting , you know?" Corpse hums in understanding. "I feel pretty… normal."
"Same, same."
"Huh…"
They stare at each other again.
"You know what that means?" Corpse whispers.
Sykkuno arches an amused brow. "That we were actually acting like a married couple this whole time without noticing?"
Corpse leans to drag their lips together. "It means that we were meant for each other, baby."
Sykkuno melts at that.
Corpse kisses him gently then trails his mouth down to his lover's jaw. "And now you're mine." He growls with a little bite, ivory teeth marking pale skin.
Sykkuno moans softly and tightens his arms around his neck to drag him closer. "I've always been yours, Corpse." He whispers and his eyes are shining with love. "Forever and always." He repeats his vows from earlier at the altar and Corpse can't help himself but to kiss the sweetness of his mouth.
And as they kiss and stumble their way back to their room, where they would make love on the silk sheets and whisper sweet-nothings to each other,
As Sykkuno moans and cries out his name, watch him with shining tired eyes and a blissed out smile, curls into his arms and murmurs his love,
And as Corpse falls asleep to the sound of his husband's soft breathing, and the sight of their clapped hands, with their rings shining under the moonlight,
Corpse thinks that he likes the sound of that.
Forever and always.
He likes it a lot.
