Chapter Text

Tommy shoots up in terror as they realized they hit the ground. They look around and don't see death and destruction that had echoed in their skull as their dad pushed him from the obsidian platforms. They instead see an open plains field. There's a distant sign and two paths.

The left one, a dirt and mossy cobblestone path, leading to a flower field with a disturbing fountain and well gushing a voidy black liquid when the substance touches the roses and flowers around it the plants wither and the grass is grey and charred around it, it's comforting despite the horrifying well.

The right one leads to a dark looking temple. They're drawn to it, it's dark inside inviting him in sounds of a church bell echo from inside and there's chatter coming from it, it reminds him of his friends and the church of prime, it's alluring familiarity nearly makes them step on the dark brick path before they stop.

The sign, they should read the sign.

'Welcome dead soul. You've lost your final life. You must choose now, this will impact how you see the world for the rest of your time here. The left path leads you to spectate the living as a spirit. The right path is your afterlife. You will feel drawn to it. That's good. You must want to feel drawn to it, it's to comfort you for the rest of your spiritual life. But be warned, you must only choose one. Anyone who strays too far from the paths will be lost forever.

- Sincerely, Lady Death'

"A spirit? That's what Ghostbur is…" Tommy mumbles, they pull themselves away from the black brick path and step on the mossy cobblestone. "I want to go this way." As soon as their footfalls they look back and the church is gone. "No going back now."

They step to the fountain and well. The fountain is labelled 'reincarnation' and the well is labelled 'spirit'. They hesitantly step to the well, they see a cup sitting on the side.

"Take a sip." A little voice whispers.

They draw the bucket up from the bottom of the well and cautiously pour the black liquid in the cup. They lift the cup to their face inspecting the opaque liquid, it has little star-like crystals in it that they hadn't seen before. It looks like a portal they've seen only in their dreams. They take a sip of it, it's fruity, not a fruit they've ever had before. It's bitter and sweet all at the same time. It's sweet melted sugary taste mixes harshly with a bitter charred taste.

They put the cup down and a dizzy feeling washes over them. They feel like they're falling again but they never land. They open their eyes, they're floating in a void.

"Hello Tommy." A gentle voice speaks as a dark-clad woman appears, "I'm-"
They cut her off "Mumza…" she smiles, "wow..."

"Tommy, you chose to wander the overworld. You have a few choices before I send you. You must lose one trait of yourself. Wilbur chose his memories."

"Any trait?"

"Anything. Including your physical form. But nobody would be able to see you then."

"I…" they think hard for a moment, "I could go without my vision."

She smiles, "part of you will stay here, just a fraction. And that part of you will have your vision you can come back to the spirit world at any point and see. But that will only be in your limbo. Good night sweet child, may your travels be safe." She whistles quietly and they fall asleep.
