“Why’d you do it Gary!?”
“Because making little people like you eat out of the palm of my hand feels great! ”
Twisted words sprung from Gary’s twisted mouth and the look of madness twinkled in his eye for the briefest second. He was so far out of his depth that no one could even hope to reach him.
So why was Jimmy on the roof drenched in a mixture of rain and dread?
Because he was the school’s only hope of normalcy— he just needed to get Gary’s head back on straight with a good old fashion beating. He was standing on an unstable area— the surface shook underneath his feet whilst his contemplation of the actions that led him here ran through his mind at a million miles an hour. He harbored the hearts of many, but he wasn’t harboring Gary’s. Oh no, Gary was too far gone to be saved— it seemed like he wanted to dedicate his life to his stupid taking control of the school plan. So even if Jimmy wanted everything to go back to the way it was before…
It couldn’t.
Gary’s maniacal laughter filled the air, his head rushing with blood and adrenaline. He had accomplished what he wanted, right? He was the new head boy, he had all the dumb little cliques under his thumb— and he had a miserable looking Jimmy Hopkins face him with unmatched contempt! Although.. such a harsh gaze sent shivers throughout Gary’s body in which he blamed the rain for. Something about having such hatred aimed squared at him both unsettled and excited him— even though Jimmy was as dumb as a stump, he was the only one who had ever managed to be on the same level as him.
And that enraged Gary to no avail.
But before he knew it, he had made an obscene comment about Jimmy’s mom— and now they were tussling back and forth, shoving each other with such intensity, and how it was exhilarating. Gary should’ve been angry that his plan had been ruined, that he couldn’t take Jimmy in a one on one fight if he managed to be pushed off the edge, but it gave Gary a rush. Head clouded with paranoia mixed with an odd sense of subtle attraction, he had managed to break free of his strict one track mind that was filled with plans and schemes and did the unthinkable.
He had leaned in without thinking and planted a firm kiss directly onto Jimmy’s own lips.
Of course it wouldn’t end well… It never ended well with Gary. And Jimmy had instinctively pushed him away which led to desperate grasps to cling onto something— anything , and soon enough the both of them were falling. Wind rushing past their bodies, fear flashing through them as they felt this could be the last minute of their life. Gary didn’t want to go out unless it was in a blaze of a last and final performance, whilst Jimmy didn’t want to die with Gary being his most recent kiss. Then their bodies hit a platform and the united groans synched up, barely audible against the clap of thunder above.
Jimmy and Gary always seemed to sync up, and it was both equally frustrating and oddly tolerable.
“What the hell Gary!? What was that about you damn creep!” Jimmy spewed, getting up as if the fall had meant nothing to him. He had been through hell and back.. he must’ve suffered more physically than anyone could’ve imagined.
“Oh Jimmy, my dumb, stupid, brainless friend. This was all part of the plan! I’ve seen you around campus, I just thought you’d want your last moments to be what you’ve been doing this whole time! Kissing men like the bitch that you are.”
His tone was vile— desperate even as he clawed his way into an explanation that made sense because in reality? Gary had done it on a whim. HIM! The man of meticulous planning and dedication to sticking to his script. He never had done things without having a means to an end and yet, he had just kissed the boy he sought after to take down this whole school year. It was gross, it was despicable, it was—
Something he’d never forget.
He’d never forget the feeling of Jimmy’s cracked lips against his own, the briefest taste of soda being traced and now Gary’s losing focus as he stared at the mouth he just attacked shouting at him for his mishap.
“I don’t need a lecture from someone like you, Hopkins. It’s just a shame that you wanna keep on talking instead of using that other method you hold so dearly.” Gary got up on wobbly knees, his body ached in protest but he ignored it like he did with all his other problems. He knew he wasn’t as strong as Jimmy— no one was, but like hell was he going to go down without a fight.
“I don’t wanna fight you! I just wanna talk—“
“Talking just leads to fighting, it always happens! I thought the biggest lesson that was learned was violence solves everything when it involves you.”
“Shut up—“
Interrupted.
“Because, unlike you James, I can get what I want without having to resort to such neanderthal-like tendencies. I don’t have to lay a FINGER for people to respect me!”
“Oh yeah? Newsflash, Gary. Everyone hates you!”
And that everyone included Jimmy, didn’t it? It didn’t matter— nothing ever mattered because there would always be a stupid brick of a wall in front of your plans, just another measly obstacle to overcome. But out of every challenge Gary had faced thus far, Jimmy was by far the easiest yet toughest one he’d ever had the misfortune of meeting. The worst part about all of this was the fact that he wanted to kiss him again..
He wanted to kiss him over and over until the breath escaped their lungs in a swirl of heat and desperation. He didn’t like him of course, it would’ve been a ploy to throw him off his rhythm— a power play to make him crumble under his grasp. How fucked it that? To want to make your enemy, the man that inched paranoia into your soul every second, submit under you in the form other than torture and humiliation. Gary had a plan at the start, to take over Bullworth, but maybe this was his peak..
Watching the rain fall over a confused and angry Jimmy as the tension between them grew thicker than the fog surrounding them itself.
But no matter how much his heart oddly longed to feel the warmth of Jimmy up against him, combatting the chill of the night, all Gary got in return was the glare of spite and the goal of his ruin. It made him sick to his stomach, and his conquest to finalize his goal began to cement itself in his mind once again. So he did what he always did— he provoked.
“What, was kissing me that good that you don’t wanna do the only thing you’re good at?” Gary mocked, getting up close and personal. Their faces almost bashed into each other with their near proximity.
“Back off man. Keep pushing and you’re really gonna regret it.” Jimmy shoved him back, threats dripping off his tongue like the rain dripped off his face.
“Awww, poor Jimmy. Not so big and tough now when you’ve met none other as superior as I. What a simpleton.”
“Say one more thing and you’re a goner.”
Gary wanted to press more and more— to see the hatred thrown his way after months of torture accumulating. It was an obsession by this point, the cat and mouse game they had was just too much fun to give up. Eyes blowing wide with a sneer to match, he just let out a wicked laugh. This was their final showdown, and he would come on top!
“Let me guess, when this is all over you think you’ll be revered as a hero! That you’re the person Bullworth needed most! Well congratulations, Jimmy— you’re the most idiotic person to ever grace these halls. Give up those moronic thoughts since we all know Bullworth is the place where dreams go to die !”
After being shoved, Gary just went right back to their previous closeness. His eyes had flickered so subtly towards Jimmy’s lips, a hot searing desire flashed through him but it seemed as if he wasn’t as covert as he believed as he started inching closer— leaning towards the shorter boy. But instead of making contact with the warmth from before, he had gotten another surprise.
A right hook to the jaw which sent him spiraling to the floor.
“That’s it.. you’re gonna get it.”
The harshness stood over him in the form of his sworn enemy. The look Jimmy was giving him was chilling.. It was invigorating and now he had an outlet to let his feelings loose in the form of a good fight.
It ended badly, it always ended badly when it came to the two of them. A kiss that wasn’t in his plans, a few taunts here and there, and the kicker being a punch to the face. How could he have been so stupid to think that this would’ve ended well for him? Somewhere along the way with the lack of medication and forces outside of his control, he had lost himself and now was facing the consequences of his actions.
Maybe in another time, they would’ve been good friends.. but it seemed like this wasn’t that time.
