Herb watered his garden's flowers as clover played a soft tune by the willow tree, this soon became the usual routine for the two, as Herb finished watering the last of the roses he stared into the distance looking at the bar down the path. He slowly put down his watering can and said goodbye to clover as he started for the bar on the other side of the kingdom, he didn't go there everyday unlike vampire cookie who spent most of his time there but he had come to be known as one of the bars regulars anyway. As he approached the doorway all he could hear was loud screaming while this sound might scare away most cookies herb knew it was just vampire cookie as drunk as usual and walked into the bar. Upon entering he was met with the scene of vampire cookie arguing at sparkling about wanting free drinks but either way this didn't stop sparkling from giving herb a soft smile when he sat down.
“What would you like?” sparkling asked clearly ignoring the upset vampire
“The usual” herb said calmly, paying no attention to the screaming cookie next to him. While waiting for sparkling to get his drink herb tried his best to calm down vampire cookie but his efforts were wasted as vampire was too drunk to even hear a word he was saying.
“Here you go, it's on the house, '' sparkling said, placing a cup of steaming hot herbal tea in front of herb. Before taking a sip herb felt a chill go down his spine almost as if someone was watching him, as he looked to his right he noticed vampire cookie giving him a death stare after 20 seconds of eye contact vampire turned back towards sparkling and started screaming again
“Why can't I have free drinks but herb does??!?!?!? I'm your boyfriend too you know” herb seemed to crack up a little at the comment
“That's cause i gave you a free drink last time you bozo” this made vampire cookie more visibly upset then before leading him to chuck a bottle of red wine at sparklings head. Panicked herb threw himself over the counter to sparklings aid.
“Sparkling, where do you keep the bandages?” Herb questioned frantically.
“On the shelf out back, although ill be perfectly fine without them it didn't hit me that hard” sparkling exclaimed putting his hand to his head, as herb rushed out back to get the sour belt bandages sparkling looked down to see the pool of strawberry jam on the floor next to him. Not long after, Herb came back out with the bandages and wrapped them around his head.
“Are you okay?” herb asked worriedly
“Yeah dont worry im fine” sparkling smiled at herb as he stood up “although i can't say the same for him” gesturing towards the passed out vampire resting his head on the counter.
“I can take him home if you'd like instead of leaving him passed out here” herb said.
“Actually herb, do you mind doing something else for me?” he nodded looking confused “i need someone to man the bar while i'm gone and i was wondering if you'd like to?” he exclaimed. herb responded almost immediately
“Yeah I don't mind but where are you going and what are we gonna do about vampire?”
“I thought with my current injury it would be best if i took the rest of the day off and I could take vampire back with me as I left” so with that sparkling left the bar bringing vampire with him leaving only herb and a small notepad behind.
Herb wasnt exactly new to this on some occasions he would help sparkling with orders and he saw him make drinks all the time but something about working there without sparklings help left herb pretty anxious about the current situation. Not long after, herbs first customer entered the bar and sat down. It was none other than madeleine cookie. “Oh hello herb, is sparkling here today?” he asked while laying his sword and shield next to him.
“Sorry but he's not here today. He got injured and asked me to take over, but what would you like?” Herb questioned.
“Oh i'll have some beer, and herb, How did sparkling manage to get injured?” Herb turned around and grabbed a bottle from the shelf behind him.
“Vampire got drunk again and threw a wine bottle at sparkling cause he wouldnt give him free drinks, but don't worry sparkling isn't too hurt” herb said doubting himself, madeleine spoke up
“I don't understand why you three still date him he's always drunk and gets himself into a lot of shit because of it”, herb signed
“He's really not that bad when you get to know him, and when he's sober he acts a lot different!” he said, madelene looked at him disappointingly
“If you say so” as madelene took a sip of his beer someone else entered the bar and sat down next to him
“Oh hello pomegranate what can i get for you?” herb asked, pomegranates answer was short and direct
“Wine,” the red cookie said softly. Herb grabbed another bottle from the self and poured its contents into a glass, handing it to pomegranate quickly. More and more people entered the bar, starting to overwhelm herb who barely knew what he was doing. Chili pepper walked up to the bar resting her arm on the counter
“Hey herb can i get a jalapeno margarita” she said herb trying to act calm said a simple ok and headed out back, no where on the notepad he was given did it say how to make this drink, he didn't know what to do, would sparkling ever let him help ever again, well obviously something as simple as not being able to make a drink doesn't mean life or death but herb felt like it did. As herb was panicking in the back mint choco entered the bar.
“Where's sparkling?” mint asked madelene who turned to looked at him
“Sparklings hurt so herbs running the bar today, although he's been out back for a while” mint hearing this news decided he was gonna go out back to check on herb.
“Herb you've been back here a while you alright” he asked to the seemingly empty room. A nervous cookie walked out from behind one of the shelves
“Yea I'm fine” herb said quietly, when mint choco asked him what was wrong he didn't hesitate to tell him the situation with the jalapeno margarita. Mint choco smiled at herbs explanation
“Hey don't worry, I know how to make a jalapeno margarita” he said while dragging herb back to the bar, herbs face lit up with joy knowing that mint could make the drink he couldn't. Returning to the bar mint and herb worked together to serve the cookies including custard and pancake who came in together requesting some apple juice. As the end of the day drew near, Clover entered the bar and ordered the same herbal tea herb had had that same morning after a short chat with clover herb and mint worked together making the last drink of the night and could finally rest after the long day. The next day herbs routine started the same as usual. He woke up, got dressed and headed out to his garden to water the flowers, to no one's surprise clover was already in the garden playing music that softly filled the air. herb filled the watering can and began watering the flowers, completely forgetting about the day before. Eventually clover stopped playing and walked over to herb.
“The tea you made yesterday was really good. I should get you to make me tea more often” he said, smiling. Herb, a little flustered, agreed with Clover and decided to head to the bar to get a cup of tea for himself. As he entered the bar he was greeted with the three other regulars sitting at the bar chatting about the day before. Herb sat down in between mint and the slightly sober vampire who quickly apologized for the day before, accepting vampires apology herb softly smiled and turned to watch sparkling brew him his herbal tea.
