Work Text:

“Remind me again why this is necessary,” Hermione said, holding up a hanger with a piece of cloth on it that was so small, she wasn’t sure that it qualified as clothes. Granted, it wasn’t intended to be worn in public, but even so…

“Because, Granger, it’s your honeymoon and new, pretty lingerie is practically required for that,” Pansy replied, tilting her head as she studied the lacy fabric that Hermione was holding. After a moment, she shook her head. “No. Or at least not in red.”

Hermione shrugged and put the hanger back on the rack. Though she was more than ready to be done with this shopping excursion - even though they had just arrived - she couldn’t say that she was disappointed that Pansy didn’t approve of that one.

She still thought it was silly, this whole idea that she needed lingerie for her honeymoon. But Pansy was a force to be reckoned with when she got an idea into her head, and for whatever reason, she’d gotten it into her head that making sure Hermione had what she considered to be proper attire for the trip was her responsibility. Or her duty. Or something

“Oh, this one will make your Weasley twin pass out,” Pansy said, holding up what looked to Hermione like two pieces of dark blue string and not much else.

“Pansy, I can’t wear that,” Hermione scoffed. “And his name is Fred.”

“Yes, of course, it is,” she replied, waving her hand flippantly. “And Angelina’s Weasley twin is George. I’m not stupid, Granger. I married into the family first, you know. But don’t try to distract me. Why do you think you can’t wear this?”

“I just can’t,” Hermione said, shaking her head. “If you’re insisting on buying me something here, I’d like to actually get some use out of it so you’re not just throwing your Galleons away for nothing. And I wouldn’t wear that.”

“Is there something specific about it that you don’t like? Is it the colour? The style?” Pansy asked. “Work with me here. I’m trying to help, but I can’t if you won’t talk to me.”

“The style, I guess,” she replied, grabbing it out of Pansy’s hand and placing it back on the rack. “I just wouldn’t be comfortable in that.”

“Fair enough,” Pansy said, grabbing Hermione’s wrist and tugging her along through the racks of lacy undergarments and negligees. “Let’s stick with the basics then. Knickers and bra sets and a couple of silk dressing gowns.”

Pansy stopped at a rack of relatively normal looking bras and knickers, though they had more lace on them than Hermione might typically go for, and began handing her items in her size in various shades. She then threw a couple of dressing gowns over her arm and led the way to the till.

“See? Quick and painless once you actually told me what you wanted,” Pansy said, clicking her tongue. “Now we even have time to stop by Flourish and Blotts.”

“Why do I feel like this is a trap?” Hermione asked, shaking her head but placing the armful of bras and knickers she carried on the counter, knowing it was pointless to argue.

“Because I’m going to buy you a few books that will probably make you blush and will make your Weasley twin very happy. And you too, once you give in and read them...or at least look at the diagrams and illustrations.”

“And there’s no way to convince you to just let me get the newest edition of Hogwarts: A History, is there?”

“Not a chance.”

Hermione grinned as she shook her head and followed Pansy out of the shop. As they walked toward Flourish and Blotts, she listened to her future sister-in-law as she chattered on about the list of things that they still needed to acquire for her honeymoon.

She wanted to be annoyed at her friend, but if it made Pansy happy to drag her through the shops and buy her unnecessary things, she would allow it. Besides, none of it really mattered as long as Fred was standing at the end of the aisle waiting for her at the end of the week when all was said and done.
