Work Text:
"Come on, we don't have much time. Your materials will be destroyed tomorrow."
"You know, for a guy with a crutch you're really fast!"
Viktor and Jayce sped through the empty University hallways, making their way directly to Heimerdinger's lab.
Viktor fumbled with keys in the dark.
Jayce sighed and caught his breath, leaning on the wall. "Thank goodness we didn't get—"
A shining light appears down the hallway. The pair froze as the light came down to shine on both of them. They were caught.
"Oh! Uh," said a stunned Jayce. "We... We weren't..."
"Oh that's funny," said Viktor looking at his keys in complete confusion. "These aren't the keys to my bedroom, Jayce, this isn't my bedroom we must have made the wrong turn. From my bedroom. To this lab."
The light beam went down and a mustached old guard looked at Viktor unimpressed.
"Another guy, Viktor?" came the gruff voice.
"Oh, well, what can I say? You know me," said Viktor with a shrug.
The security guard grunted. "The town bicycle"
Jayce stood there and made a choked noise. "What?"
The old man used the flashlight to shine on Jayce, looking at him up and down. "And your usual type too? But trying to do things in the professor's laboratory? Haven't seen you do that for a while. Normally I see you on that wall over there with your tongue—"
"That's enough," said Viktor, who then coughed sheepishly. "Ahem, if you would just let us... Be here... For a moment. Please."
The guard looked at both of them. "Fine, but only because you helped me fix the alarm system that one time. Don't be in there too long."
Viktor stood up and nodded his head in thanks. The guard grunted again and tipped his hat. He took one more look at Jayce and raised his eyebrow in a 'I hope you know what you're in for, kid' look before taking himself down the hallway to continue his patrol.
"What was that?" hissed Jayce.
Viktor had knelt down and worked at the locks with the keys again. "I don't know what you mean, Jayce. But we're lucky it was someone I knew, and that I had helped him that one time. It is good to have friends. Ah! There we go."
The door swung open and Viktor stepped in, already going for Jayce's abandoned materials.
"Friends? Friends that you apparently use your tongue with?"
Viktor at least had the decency to blush. "Ah, well. That's just my personal life. You know it's good to have many things in your life to keep things balanced. Balance in all things. I think that's an Ionian saying."
Viktor gathered Jayce's notes and tools and Jayce went over to grab his crystal cage apparatus. "But," started Jayce as they both arranged the material. "Now he probably thinks I'm one of those friends."
Viktor paused and looked up at Jayce, with a strange look. "Would that be so bad?"
Jayce looked at Viktor and found that he couldn't breathe. "Um, ah, I mean—"
Viktor broke off the eye contact and laughed just a bit too loudly. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I wouldn't do such a thing with a scientific partner. Or anyone in Piltover really. The time that Harmond caught me outside on that wall is one of the exceptions. Actually now that I think about it..." Viktor put his finger to his lip and quirked his head and mumbled to himself. Jayce couldn't help but look at how soft Viktor's lips looked with that slight pressure. "No, I guess when I started off I didn't do anything with Pilties and just stuck to Zaunites but at this point I basically say yes to any man who asks."
Jayce choked, "What?"
Viktor quirked his eyebrow. "Don't worry, I don't bother men who aren't interested. I'm not crass."
Jayce looked at Viktor, boggled. This thin, strange, intelligent man really was someone who had many partners.
"But we're partners right? Not you and someone else?" Jayce sputtered. "I mean with science. Science stuff."
Viktor gave Jayce another look. What did they mean? "No. No man is as brilliant as you and your work. Sex is sex, and work is work. I find they compliment each other, as when I'm more satisfied with one, the other becomes more fulfilling. I try not to mix the two. Screw?"
"Excuse me?" wheezed out Jayce.
Viktor rolled his eyes and took Jayce's hand which Jayce now thought was really sweaty for no reason. Viktor used his delicate fingers to open up Jayce's palm and dropped a steel screw in.
"Screw. Come on, stop thinking about how much cock I take on a daily basis and let's get to work!"
Viktor rolled up his sleeves and let his comment slide out casually getting to work. Jayce was holding the screw in his tight fist, his mind still trying to comprehend what he had just heard.
"We really don't have time. Harmond will only expect us to be in here for so long. Come on now, let's make this Hextech dream come true."
Jayce pushed through his uncomfortable feelings and stepped forward, and went to his new partner—science partner.
The work was easy going with them together. Ideas shared quickly, bouncing between the both of them.
High velocity. Cranked up power. And voila.
They had done it.
The explosion was extraordinary but the effect of floating, with tamed magic, was wonderful.
"Could you both please stop floating!" cried out Heimerdinger from below on the ground.
"You were actually doing science in here?" came the shocked voice of the security guard. "Unbelievable! I'm so sorry Professor, I thought Viktor was having relations again in your lab."
"Again? What do you mean, 'again'?"
As the chat happened below them, Jayce and Viktor continued floating. And Jayce couldn't help but feel his heart flutter when he saw Viktor's smile.
Jayce dug into his pocket and pulled out a piece of metal, then flicked it towards Viktor through the pulsating magic core.
"Screw?"
It floated towards Viktor who caught it, before raising an eyebrow. Viktor raised both his eyebrows and gave Jayce a look.
This one, Jayce definitely understood.
Jayce nodded once, and Viktor grinned back ferociously. Oh, that was a good look. Was that the look Viktor gave to his 'special' friends?
"Okay let's get down. Right now."
