What Really Happened When Joseph "Died" In Part 3

Summary:

Dio. The World. Jotaro.

“I have to go back, I have to help Jotaro. He doesn’t know how Dio’s stand works!” He panics.

“Still as active as ever I see. Even in heaven you can’t help but be moving around huh?” A familiar voice asks, from behind him.

Chills run down his spine, and tears immediately prick at his eyes. How long had it been since he had heard that voice? Was his mind playing tricks on him? After the tragedy he had just faced, he didn’t think he could take it if the person behind him wasn’t who he was thinking of.

“Mio Dio, I see you’re just as rude too,” the same warm voice teases, and Joseph quickly spins around to be met with his favorite blue eyes, and pink triangles.

“Cae-” Joseph’s voice cracks. Caesar smiles.

“Hi, my Jojo."

Work Text:

“What? Shit, where am I?” Joseph worries, as he looks around the strange place he seems to have landed in. It was beautiful, for lack of a better word. Beautiful sounded like an insult though, as it couldn’t even begin to describe the setting of the place. He couldn’t even describe it, as he wasn’t sure exactly what he was looking at. A beautiful blue sky, a soft material under his toes that resembled clouds, the sounds of an alluring choir in the distance.

Oh Fuck

“Fuck, am I dead?” He mumbles to himself, as he feels around his body when he suddenly remembers.

Dio. The World.

Mio Dio, I see you’re just as rude too,” the same warm voice teases, and Joseph quickly spins around to be met with his favorite blue eyes, and pink triangles.

“Cae-” Joseph’s voice cracks. Caesar smiles.

“Hi, my Jojo,” he says, extending an arm to him, waiting patiently. “I haven’t seen you in over fifty years and you’re not going to greet me hello?” He asks, his perfect, knowing smile never leaving his face. Joseph jumps to wrap his arms around his neck, gripping him tightly. He pushes his face into the blonde’s neck and is calmed by the forgotten scent. His favorite. Caesar pushes him off gently, cupping his face. “You’ve aged well,” he says, softly.

“You look just how you did all those years ago,” Joseph says, mesmerized.

“So do you,” Caesar points out, and Joseph scoffs lightly.

“Yeah, I’m sure. The beard and the wrinkles look exactly the same,” he says, and Caesar smiles, before pulling out a compact mirror. Joseph takes it, confusedly, before opening it and gasping.

“I-I’m eighteen again!” He says, shocked, and Caesar smiles.

“Good, because I definitely did not want to do this with an old man,” he jokes, and Joseph raises an eyebrow and opens his mouth to question, but soft lips encase his own before he has a chance. He stills, out of complete shock, and Caesar pulls away.

“I apologize if you do not love me in the way that I love you, but I regretted not doing that for so long,” he says, and Joseph notices the insecurity on his face. Before Caesar can stress any further, the Brit roughly pulls at his face and connects their lips again. He didn’t realize he was crying until his blonde pulled away from him, and wiped his tears.

“I kept your bandana,” he says, sadly, and Caesar smiles.

“I know, I’ve been watching over you. Married Suzi huh?” He teases, and Joseph buries his head in Caesar’s neck again.

“I married her quickly. She was a beautiful, blonde, blue-eyed, Italian, and the one I wanted was gone,” he says, voice thick. He feels strong arms wrap around his back and circles being rubbed along his spine.

“You beat the pillar men as well,” Caesar praises, and Joseph smiles.

We beat them,” he corrects, before pulling away slightly to look at him. “And I do love you,” he admits.

“Well I sure hope so, you did just cheat on your wife with me after all,” Caesar says cheekily, and Joseph rolls his eyes.

“I already cheated on her with someone else too,” he mumbles, and Caesar laughs.

“Oh, I’m aware, and with a Japanese woman too. Right after you complained so much about all of their customs,” he says, smirking, and Joseph pushes him.

“Told you, I married too fast. Desperate to get over you,” he says, and Caesar lets out a belly laugh at that.

“How’s that working out for you?” He asks, and Joseph glares at him.

“I don’t think anyone’s not been able to get over their first love for over fifty years, has to be some kind of record huh?” He asks, and Caesar nods.

“How pathetic, only knew the guy for thirty days and he spent fifty years haunting you? He must’ve been a real catch yeah?” He asks, eyes sparkling.

“Yeah,” he says, and Caesar blinks, before blushing, not expecting Joseph to agree, so unabashedly. “You know Lisa Lisa’s my mom! That’s so weird right!” He says, poking his chest. Caesar’s mouth opens slightly.

“Yeah, I saw that too. Can’t believe she almost let you die at that oil pillar,” he says, and shivers. Joseph grins widely at him.

“But I didn’t, you wanna know why?” Joseph says, nudging him, and Caesar attempts to roll his eyes and look annoyed, but the smile on his face is too telling.

“Don’t say it,” he pleads.

“Because my little Caesar saved me,” he says, eyes crinkling with happiness. “I recently learned that it’s actually the name of a pizza franchise,” he says, and Caesar can’t suppress his smile as he indulges him.

“Is it?” He asks, secretly loving Jojo’s rambling.

“Yeah, Jotaro and Kakyoin told me it’s really popular in America,” he says, and Caesar shrugs.

“Italian pizza is better,” he says confidently, and Joseph rolls his eyes.

“You haven’t even tried it,” he presses, and Caesar gives him a stern look.

“Italian pizza is better,” he repeats firmly, and Joseph sighs.

“I can never win with you huh?” He asks.

“You already have,” he says, before his eyes turn serious. “You have to go back Jojo,” he says, and Joseph’s face scrunches.

“What are you talking about?” He questions and Caesar takes his hand.

“Jotaro and Holly need you. Suzi needs you too. You have to go back and end this. I passed with the Zeppeli bloodline in mind, you have to think about your bloodline. You have to defeat the man that killed both of our grandfathers, my Jojo,” he says, cradling his hand in both of his and holding it to his chest.

“No, but. I’ve been without you for so long,” he starts, and Caesar brings his hand up to his mouth, kissing each of his knuckles softly.

“And you’ll survive a little longer,” he finishes. Joseph looks away, unable to bear the sight of Caesar when he knows he’s about to lose him for the second time.

“I can’t. Let me be selfish, let me be eighteen and in love with you again,” he begs, and Caesar smiles.

“Your daughter amore mio. Make sure she’s safe, then come back to me,” he says, and Joseph can’t hold back his tears any longer.

“Fuck, I just got you back,” he says, voice breaking, and Caesar nuzzles his hand to his cheek, kissing his wrist.

“And I’ll be here again when you arrive next time. Forever, my Jojo,” he promises.

“Kiss me once more, one more time,” he pleads, and Caesar smiles, before leaning in and pressing his soft lips to Joseph’s urgent ones. He cups his blonde’s face in his hands, probably pressing a bit too roughly with his fingers, but he can’t bring himself to stop. When is he gonna be able to touch his face again? When is he going to be able to see him again?

“I don’t wanna go,” he says, against his lips.

“I know,” Caesar says sadly.

“You’ll be here when I get back?” He checks once more, and his lover pecks his lips once more.

“I’d wait for you forever.” He reassures, and Joseph sighs.

“Goodbye Caesar,” he says, stepping away, and the blonde rolls his eyes.

“Jesus, still as dramatic as ever I see,” he says, and Joseph’s eyes widen.

“Can you even say that here? We’re literally in heaven!” He says, and Caesar smiles.

“I don’t think he’ll mind too much. He is a Joestar after all,” he says, and Joseph’s face scrunches up in heavy confusion.

“Wait what?!” He asks, as Caesar begins to fade away.

“Until I see you again, my Jojo.”
