Work Text:
Jay stared numbly at the wall in front of him, static building up in his ears. He watched as the motel room door opened and a familiar but unfocused figure entered.
"Jay," Tim's distant voice called, "You feeling okay?"
Jay blinked a few times, the room coming into focus as he stared at Tim who sat on the edge of the bed, frowning. "Oh..Hi Tim." Jay mumbled, adjusting himself in bed so he was sitting up properly, "Where'd you go?"
"Ah, I was getting some soup for you." Tim stated, holding up a plastic bag that supposedly held soup. Jay eyed it suspiciously before nodding, "So, how are you feeling?"
"Uh..." Jay muttered, furrowing his eyebrows. How was he feeling? He felt like he was floating, like he was miles away. He didn't feel like he was here and he didn't feel...Like anything. Jay shrugged his shoulders and Tim frowned.
"Alright, well, have you taken any of the meds?" Tim questioned, taking the orange pill bottle off the nightstand to examine it and Jay shook his head.
"No no, you need them more." He muttered, running his hand across the thin bed sheets he was seated on, "I'll be fine without them."
Tim sighed, but didn't say anything despite the fact that Jay knew he wanted to. Tim pulled out the container of soup from the plastic bag, placing it on the nightstand along with a plastic spoon. Jay watched him closely as he did so, "Uh, eat it whenever you feel hungry, I guess." Tim said.
Jay nodded in acknowledgement, before laying back down and turning to his side. He heard Tim sigh again before his weight disappeared from the end of the bed. It barely took five seconds since his head hit the pillow before Jay fell asleep.
---
Jay flung himself up in bed, blood pumping in his ears and his heart in his throat. His hair and clothes stuck to his sweaty skin and his eyes were wide as they shot around the room. The noise of Jay violently thrashing and flinging up in bed seemed to have woken up Tim, a tired groan originating from the bed next to Jay's.
Tim sat up and turned to face Jay's bed, turning on the bedside lamp as he did so, "You okay? Was it another nightmare?"
"I....I don't know." Jay panted, trying to catch his breath, he stumbled out of the bed and made his way to the tripod. Tim followed closely behind.
"Jay, you should be lying down, you might collapse again." Tim grumbled but Jay shook his head in defiance.
"Need to check the camera, that thing might have come in here- T-That might have been what woke me up." Jay whispered, grabbing the camera and rewinding the footage.
Tim watched from over his shoulder. The only people in the room were Jay and Tim, there wasn't even any distortion in the footage. But Jay checked over it three times to make sure.
"See? It was just a nightmare." Tim assured, placing a hand on the small of Jay's back, "Let's get back to bed."
The paranoid brunet nodded, placing the camera back onto it's tripod to continue recording. Jay was led back to his bed and Tim sat down at the edge again, "You're safe here, Jay."
Jay frowned and stared at Tim's hand that was placed on the bed. His eyes flicked up at Tim, "Could you...Could you hold my hand?" Jay mumbled, "At least 'til I fall back to sleep?"
Tim blinked and smiled softly at him, "Sure." He said, grabbing Jay's cold hand and interlocking their fingers. Jay nodded and laid down.
"Thanks, Tim."
"Goodnight, Jay. I'll see you in the morning."
