Work Text:
It’s the station's Christmas party, hosted for the local community. It’s one of Buck’s favourite days of the year, where families come in for food and games, they get to dress up, there’s mulled wine for the adults and juices for firefighters and kids, lots of cookies and mince pies and candy canes. There’s a big tree, decorated to the nines, lights and tinsel and baubles with presents underneath it. The station is full of happiness and laughter and Buck loves it.
And this year is even better, because he now has a boyfriend who he adores. Even if they’ve only been together for a few weeks, it feels like so much longer because of the fact they were best friends first. They’d struggled with talking - or the lack of it - misunderstandings, miscommunications, the will, the shooting, girlfriends, but once things had aligned properly, it felt like they’d been together forever. It’s not really that much different, Buck can admit. They’re still the same as always, just now he also gets to kiss Eddie.
And maybe that’s why no one else seemed to pick up on the change in their relationship, and they’ve kept things quiet too because they want time just for them. It took them a while to get here, to get past the trauma of the last year and to realise they’d never been just friends, and they want the chance to grow into this new, exciting thing they’re sharing. They will tell their friends soon, Christopher even sooner, but for now, they’re just enjoying the thrill of sneaking kisses whenever they can.
And right now, Buck is enjoying watching Eddie from across the station. It’s clear Eddie isn’t aware he’s been devoured, he’s kneeling down to talk to a little girl, listening to whatever she’s saying so intently and nodding seriously as he replies to her. Eddie’s a fantastic father, Buck knew that right from the start of their friendship, but he still gets that tug in his stomach when he sees Eddie being so damn wonderful and beautiful at the same time.
The little girl gives Eddie a hug before returning to her waiting parents and Eddie stands, stretching out his arms as he works the kinks out of his back. He’s wearing short sleeves and the material pulls over his biceps and fuck, Buck’s not sure if he’s making it out of here without dragging him off somewhere for a make out session. And then Eddie looks around, catches his eye and even from across the fire station, Buck can see the wide, smug grin he gets on his face. It’s a sure sign he knows what Buck’s thinking about, that he’s about to become the biggest tease, something Buck didn’t even realise was in Eddie’s personality until they started dating and he found out just what being with Eddie Diaz was like. He’s both shy and equally confident with what and who he wants, and he drives Buck crazy. At first, he thought it was innocent and inadvertently, but as time has gone on he’s realised it’s not. Eddie loves making Buck want him as much as he wants Buck and it’s intoxicating.
Eddie stretches again, his eyes fixed on Buck firmly, as he arches his back this time, pretending he needs to sort out an ache from kneeling down, and Buck’s transported back to the same way he’d moved last night, when they’d been kissing on the couch, how Eddie had felt underneath him as he’d arched into his body and he has to bite back a moan and he can feel how hot his cheeks have become. And Eddie winks at him, then saunters away like he’s not just sent all of the blood in Buck’s body rushing to the most unsuitable for work Christmas party around lots of kids places it could go to.
And the biggest problem? Now Eddie knows that Buck’s gone on him and is having a day when he can’t do anything except watch and thirst over his boyfriend, he’s being a little sod and making everything send Buck crazy in lust. He bends over deliberately slowly to pick up a gift for another kid, making sure his perfect ass is on display to Buck as he stands back up. He throws his head back as he laughs at whatever Maddie is saying to him, so Buck can see the long line of his throat, the places he now knows make Eddie whimper with pleasure when he kisses over them. He gives Jee a cuddle, her so safe in his arms, his eyes catching Buck’s across the room as he kisses her head tenderly. He spins Christopher around, both of them loud in their giggles as they hug. And he helps the neighbourhood kids with the fire engine, picking them up and showing them around and rolling hoses so fast, which in itself is enough to make Buck lose his mind, but then he picks up the hem of his T-shirt to mop his sweaty face and Buck can feel the heat of his blush spreading all over his cheeks and neck and down his chest as he gets a tantalising glimpse of Eddie’s stomach. The same stomach he’d worshipped last night.
Eddie saunters over to him, his smile smug and warm and full of affection at the same time and he checks around them carefully before touching Buck’s cheek briefly. He knows it must be hot under Eddie’s finger, if the way he raises his eyebrows and grins properly is any indication. “Oh, baby, did I make you blush?” he whispers, quiet so no one else but Buck can hear and he parts his lips and licks them and Buck has to grab hold of any composure he has left not to just drag him someone quiet so he can kiss him silly.
“You fucking tease,” is all he says, and he can hear it in his voice, how much he wants this man clear in his tone.
Eddie smirks and leans even closer, so Buck can see how his eyes have darkened, feel how his breathing hitches and he knows that he’s not the only one thinking about kissing right now. “Wait until we get home later,” he promises and then he gives one last tap to Buck’s nose and turns on his heel and saunters away, leaving Buck and his bright red cheeks alone. He turns before he reaches the stairs, winks once more, and Buck can only think of two things.
Home, Eddie called it home and that’s what he’s always wanted.
And two, he’s going to show his boyfriend exactly just how riled up he’s been all day when they get Christopher to sleep.
