Work Header

all eyes on us

Summary:

His black leather jacket absorbs the light entirely, building a stark contrast to his face and hair. A face that resembles the masterpiece of an ancient sculpture. It is no surprise that all eyes are on him but he doesn’t bother with any of them. Instead his gaze moves over the crowd, looking for his other half, the final piece to really complete their artwork.

Notes:

Hello people of the world!
This is "So it goes…" by Taylor Swift - Merlin style. It’s a bit shorter than usual but I tremendously enjoyed writing it and also liked where it was at this point. I hope you enjoy it as well!

Work Text:

Flickering lights get caught in unruly blond hair, dance through it and get lost within only to be reflected in the most gorgeous shades. In the darkness his smile illuminates the room, shining on through every shadow. He doesn’t need the light to reflect it because he beams with beauty. And his eyes adapt every possible colour with absolute ease and each and every one unlocks a new facet of the ethereal work of art he is. Still the magnificent, impossible blue of his natural eye colour is visible through every change of lighting, keeps on captivating and fascinating everyone his gaze falls upon. He barely moves but every twitch of his muscles, each slight movement completes the illusion, making him appear like a god, a creature from another, a better, a more perfect planet.

As he steps into the ever changing lights his eyes sparkle, the light gets caught in his endless dark lashes and illuminates porcelain skin that glows in the dark. His sharp cheekbones stand out more than ever making him appear like the perfect blueprint for humans that is yet to be replicated. Wavy, raven-black hair falls into his eyes, making him appear mysterious and otherworldly. His skin almost matches the blinding white of his button up shirt. Only that his skin glows like marble almost seeming wet in the dim lights. His long, lean body weaves through the dancing crowd, fits in effortlessly and still stands out. His impossible grace would never allow him to blend into the masses. Instead his presence demands attention, demands appreciation and worshiping. When they lock eyes, the whole club seems to freeze, time moves impossibly slow for a few moments, allowing them to take each other in.

Now, it was all eyes on them.

Almost involuntarily, Arthur begins moving in Merlin’s direction and when they meet everything makes sense all over again. All the pieces fall right into place and their hearts align once more. Their shared heartbeat drums and jumps with the music while their souls intertwine, grab each other tightly. So do Merlin and Arthur - they take each other in with all of their senses, move together to the faint music, drowned out by their magic. They kiss and touch each other, melting together their beauty to create an image for the gods. They compliment each other perfectly, add up to something greater than their individual parts, something bigger, meant for absolute greatness. Their ancient love creates a bond stronger than place and time. They had been victorious over both many times before. There is nothing greater than them. They are each other’s to keep and each other’s to lose. But they wouldn’t, never could. They are two halves of a whole that craves unity. And their bodies and souls gladly provide that.
