I'll Be Here When You Wake

Summary:

“We could always put Harry Potter on. You don’t have to watch this.”

“Too late!” Yunho hit play, pushing the computer back to the end of the bed. He leaned back, spreading his arms and looking to Wooyoung, “it’s already playing and I’m ready for cuddles!”

Wooyoung set the crackers down and scooted closer to Yunho, placing a kiss on his cheek before getting situated and comfortable against his boyfriend. “Thank you, Yuyu. I know I’m not the easiest person to take care of.”

Or: Wooyoung hates being sick and taken care of.

Notes:

This is all inspired by my main girl, Ari 🥺

Work Text:

It wasn’t unusual for Yunho to wake up at seven AM for an early morning group study or dance practice. What is unusual, is his boyfriend sleeping through the alarm he had set. Wooyoung was a light sleeper and on multiple occasions had told Yunho that sometimes even him moving could wake him up. Yunho chalked it up to him being up late the previous night working on a project and had come to bed later than normal. Yunho climbed out of bed, quietly moving around the room to get his practice clothes before heading to the bathroom to get ready. Before he left, he made sure to press a kiss to Wooyoung’s crown or he knew his day would be thrown off.

One hour long practice and three hour study group session later, Yunho was unlocking the door to their apartment. He paused once inside, noticing all the lights were still off and he didn’t see Wooyoung. Assuming Wooyoung had gone out and forgotten to mention it, Yunho headed to the bedroom to grab a change of clothes. He paused once he walked in, seeing Wooyoung still in bed sleeping. He dropped his practice bag by the door and moved towards Wooyoung’s side, sitting on the edge of the bed. He reached towards the sleeping boy, gently running his hand up and down his back to coax him awake.

Wooyoung woke slowly, blinking his eyes open a few times before focusing his gaze on Yunho. A small, lazy smile took over his features, “Morning.”

Yunho smiled softly, “Afternoon, actually.”

Yunho’s hand dropped from Wooyoung’s back as he moved to sit up. His brows furrowed when he pushed him up to a sitting position before he let himself fall back against the pillows. Wooyoung cleared his throat with a small shake of the head, “I’m actually not feeling so hot.”

Yunho frowned, reaching out and placing the back of his hand against Wooyoung’s forehead, earning himself a glare. “What’s wrong?”

Wooyoung swatted his boyfriends hand away, “Kind of nauseous. Kind of dizzy. My throat hurts, too.”

Yunho hated when Wooyoung isn’t feeling good. It’s the first time it’s happened since the moved in together and he’d never been the one to take care of him before. That responsibility usually fell onto Yeosang or San, and they had told him how hard it was to take care of a sick Wooyoung. Normally, Wooyoung would shoot Yunho a text telling him he was unwell and would then put his phone on do not disturb and sleep until he felt better. Yunho knows Wooyoung hates being bothered when he’s not well, but he’s not going to let him wallow alone. Reaching forward, Yunho brushed a hand through Wooyoung’s hair before standing.

“Get some more rest.” He walked towards the dresser for some fresh clothes, “once I’m out I’ll make you something to eat.”

Wooyoung scowled, “I don’t want to eat anything, Yunho.”

Wooyoung is irritated at nothing except his immune system, but he tends to get snippy at anyone. Any normal person would back off the second they heard his attitude, leaving him to his own devices. Not Yunho, though. He’s been on the other side of Wooyoung’s attitude plenty of times and knows how to both handle and deflect it. People have told him before that when Wooyoung is mad it’s scary, but Yunho doesn’t see it.

“I’m not going to let you go hungry. I’ll make you something small and light when I’m done.”

Wooyoung looked like he wanted to fight it, eyes narrowed at Yunho and a frown on his lips. He huffed in annoyance instead, “whatever.”

He pulled the blanket up and over his head before turning his back to him. Yunho only rolled his eyes, gathering his stuff and heading to the bathroom.

Yunho took a quick shower, his only want being to take care of Wooyoung, even if he didn’t want it. Once he was done, he peeked his head into the bedroom to check on Wooyoung and seeing asleep again. He moved to the kitchen, digging through one of the cabinets for their box of tea. When he found it, he set it on the counter and put a kettle on. While he waited for the water to boil, he glanced around the kitchen, wondering what he could give Wooyoung that would be light enough to snack on. Pulling out some crackers, he decided that it would be a good choice. He looked towards the living room, eyes landing on his laptop and walked towards it. A good movie always helped when he wasn’t feeling well, so maybe it would help Wooyoung, too. He carried the laptop and crackers towards the room, setting them on the foot of the bed before heading back towards the kitchen and filling two mugs with the tea.

Carefully, as not to spill them, he carried them towards the bedroom. He set one of Wooyoung’s side before setting the second on his and climbed into the bed. He adjusted himself to a comfortable position, before reaching towards Wooyoung and running his fingers down his arm a few times.

When Wooyoung stretched and took a deep breath signaling he was waking up, Yunho leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Wake up, Woo. I made you some tea.”

Wooyoung scratched his eyes, eyebrows furrowed in sleepy confusion. “Tea?”

“Mhm. How are you feeling?”

“Gross.” He started sitting up, Yunho quickly placing a hand on his back to help him. “I feel like I was hit by a truck.”

Wooyoung reached for the tea and Yunho rubbed his back as he took a sip. The warm drink soothed his sore throat and he hummed at the feeling.

“Think it’s a cold?”

“Could be. I hung out with Yeosang and Jongho at the skatepark the other day and it was freezing.” Wooyoung side eyed his boyfriend, “I didn’t have someones overly warm sweatshirt with me.”

Yunho laughed, “I’m sorry my sweatshirt wasn’t there for you.”

Wooyoung’s answering smile was blinding, “That’s okay! You’re here now for cuddles!”

Wooyoung set his mug back on the table, turning back towards Yunho ready to move in. Yunho only shook his head, grabbing the crackers nearby and pressing them into Wooyoung’s hand, ignoring the pout he was being given.

Wooyoung’s smile fell, “I can’t eat these, Yunho. The sight alone makes me queasy.”

Yunho gave a sympathetic smile, “Compromise? Eat at least three of them. While you do that, I’m going to set up the movie.”

“Movie?”

“Yeah. Eat your crackers.”

Wooyoung opened the pack, watching as Yunho grabbed the laptop from the end of the bed. He munched on the crackers slowly, eating more than the three because Yunho was right and he had been a tad hungry. He felt tears starting to form when he looked at the screen and saw that Yunho had pulled up a documentary Wooyoung had been wanting to watch. As a history major, things like war or historical documentaries really interested him. Yunho though, not so much. The fact he was willing to sit through a two hour long movie for him made him feel touched.

“We could always put Harry Potter on. You don’t have to watch this.”

“Too late!” Yunho hit play, pushing the computer back to the end of the bed. He leaned back, spreading his arms and looking to Wooyoung, “it’s already playing and I’m ready for cuddles!”

Wooyoung set the crackers down and scooted closer Yunho, quickly placing a kiss to his cheek before getting situated and comfortable against his boyfriend. “Thank you, Yuyu. I know I’m not the easiest person to take care of.” He rested his cheek against Yunho’s chest, “San got so fed up once he left.”

“You aren’t that bad. Besides, San has no idea how he is when he’s sick.”

Wooyoung laughed, relaxing into Yunho’s hold. “I’m sorry I was cranky earlier. I just hate not feeling good.”

Yunho ran his hand from Wooyoung’s shoulder down to his waist, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “You don’t need to apologize. Like I said, you really weren’t that bad. Even if you were, it’s not like I wouldn’t be surprised. I think the whole world knows how you are when you’re sick.”

Wooyoung scoffed, hitting Yunho’s best making him laugh. The two fell quiet as Wooyoung focused on the movie while Yunho ran a soothing hand over his back to keep him relaxed.

After thirty minutes of quiet conversation, Yunho pulled Wooyoung closer, “You feeling okay? Need anything?”

Wooyoung hummed happily, shaking his head slowly and tightening the hold he had on Yunho’s hip. When he spoke, his voice was full of sleep, “As long as I have you, I’ll be okay.”

Maybe, Wooyoung decides, being taken care of isn’t so bad.
