Work Text:

When Minerva was ten, a demon appeared in her courtyard. When she was twelve, she kidnapped one and nearly started a war. She met the first person who had ever understood her, only to lose him again.  It had been her own fault, and she’d come to terms with that. She’d had to.

She’d been lucky enough to make a friend in Domovoi, and she could never regret that. Even if they’d drifted apart after the fiasco that was her and Artemis’s breakup.

At nineteen, she fell in love- real love- for the first time. Before long, she lost that, too. But by that point Minerva had a child, a child whose very existence demanded secrecy.  Which meant more hiding. More sacrifices. More cut ties.

Of course she loved Numi. And she wouldn’t dream of being anything less than a loving, dedicated mother- something Minerva herself had never had. But how to raise a child whose existence violated fairy policy and human understanding of the world? How to give her the childhood she deserved when normalcy would forever be out of her reach?

For all her genius, Minerva still struggled to find the answer.

She’d always thought she’d be a Nobel Prize winner by now, or savior of the human race from the bloodthirsty demonic hordes. Either way, certainly more significant than Artemis Fowl.

Yet here she was- a tired mother and an outlaw barely important enough to cause a blip on the LEP’s radar, while Artemis traversed the heavens in a ship of his own design.

Strangely enough, she was satisfied with that.
