Work Text:

Or the one where He Xuan tries to hide that she’s a vamp and Shi Qingxuan thinks her girlfriend wants to break up with her.

Attempt 1

He Xuan was tired of pulling away from her girlfriend everytime she snuggled closer to her for cuddles. She yearned to leave soft kisses on her soulmate who always had the softest look at she stared up at He Xuan through her fluttering eyelashes. But alas, it could not be helped. As her partner reached out to her with loving arms, He Xuan shied away from the harsh rays of sunlight that invaded the room, grimacing at the thought of explaining the way her skin sparkled. Unfortunately the action could easily be misconstrued, and it has been, by a hurt Shi Qingxuan who slowly pulled her hands back and let them rest with clenched fists at her side.

“How has work been?” Shi Qingxuan tried to force a smile. She tried not to let her pain show as she had long been used to her girlfriends peculiar behaviour. He Xuan tried to muster up a friendly expression as she pondered over the best ways to reveal her sparkly secret to her love. Her partner wore her heart on her sleeve, and it broke He Xuan to know that she was the cause of Shi Qingxuan’s misery.

“I met someone at work.” He Xuan started, hoping to twist the truth into a light hearted story. “She is-“ He Xuan started, but wasn’t able to continue because Shi Qingxuan scrambled off the bed and stormed outside with her fingers jammed in her ear. The distant sound of vehicles turned into a steady thrum in the background as the lighter haired woman slammed the door to He Xuan’s apartment and stomped her way outside.

He Xuan sat on the bed stunned, well aware of how the start of the conversation probably made it sound like she wanted to break up, but she couldn’t rush out to catch her paramour without revealing her true nature. He Xuan knew that appeasing her girlfriend after the major misunderstanding was going to take a bouquet of chocolates and some grovelling at the very least. Something He Xuan in her thousands of years of living alone with pride would do for no one except the one who tornadoed her way into her heart or out of their house.

Attempt 2

The house Shi Qingxuan stepped into was dark and felt empty. The feeling was unfamiliar to her, the years she has spent with her girlfriend had always resulted in her coming home to a plate of hot food and her smiling love spread across the sofa in a cat like manner. An unhappy frown settled over Shi Qingxuans face as and she set the apology raspberry juice that He Xuan adored onto the dining table and pulled out her cell phone to message the missing black haired beauty.

To: My LOVE 💓💞🥰 🥩

“I do too.” Shi Qingxuan turned when she heard her girlfriends voice and launched herself onto her, spreading her arms and legs to attach herself to the dark haired woman like an octopus.

“I’M SORRY!” Shi Qingxuan snuggled her face into the crook of He Xuan’s cold neck.

“For what?” He Xuan delicately raised her eyebrow.

“For assuming what you’re going to say and not hearing you out.” Shi Qingxuan sniffled. “I promise I do trust you but you’ve been so shady lately I tried to follow you but you always disappeared around corners and I didn’t think.” The brunettes big eyes welled up with tears and He Xuan lightly pinched the pout forming on her lips.

“You’re forgiven.”

“You should be saying there’s nothing to forgive.” Shi Qingxuan narrowed her eyes.

“I will instead say that I too am sorry.” He Xuan rolled her eyes.

“For?” Shi Qingxuan prompted.

“For being distant lately, I’ve been hungry.” He Xuan confessed.

“For weeks? Are you on one of those weird internet fasts again? Only drinking raspberry and cranberry juice can’t be good for health no matter how you want your, regions, to be.” Shi Qingxuan wriggled her eyebrows. “But I got you some anyways cause I’m an amazing girlfriend.” She pushed her way out of He Xuans vice like grip and shoved the juice into her hands.

“Drink!”

“Thank you. I will.” He Xuan placed the cup on the table again.

“Now! Are you still angry at me.” Shi Qingxuan pouted again, her face taking on a look of a hurt puppy. He Xuan thought to herself that if instead of sparkling in the sun, she had blood that flowed within her veins, her neck would be redder than rudolfs nose. Lucky for her, the only warm blooded creature in the room was the one she couldn’t even let a scratch fall on. She had to tell her girlfriend her truth, and today she would.

“I actually have something I want to tell you.” He Xuan started. “I don’t like raspberry juice, or cranberry juice, the thing that you see me drink in cups is not what you think it is.”

“Is it apple juice?” Shi Qingxuan asked surprised. “I’m not such a big fan of apple juice since Jacob Black spilled it onto my new dress in fifth grade summer camp but I guess I’ll be okay if it’s what you like. You don’t have to lie for me!”

“Apple juice isn’t red.”

“Food colouring?” Shi Qingxuan wondered out aloud, a finger on her chin and a thoughtful tilt of her head.

“No.”

“Beet root juice?” Shi Qingxuan fake gagged.

“No.”

“Watermelon juice!”

“No.”

“Blueberry juice?”

“It’s red.”

“Ketchup.”

“Why.”

“Water!”

“I’m speechless.” He Xuan deadpanned.

“I’m right?” Shi Qingxuans eyes sparkled.

“No.”

“I give up.” Shi Qingxuan sighed, she pushed He Xuan down onto to the couch and curled up around her, pulling the blanket lying over the cushions over them. “You can keep your secret juice recipe hidden, I’m convinced it’s one of the things I’ve mentioned but you’re acting like Yoda by keeping your stuff hidden away.” She teased.

“Yoda was the teacher.” He Xuan laughed.

“Same thing.” Shi Qingxuan grumbled.

He Xuan wrapped her arms gently around her girlfriend and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Her grand reveal had once again been disrupted, but she was grateful for it this time. It had been a long time since she spent quality time with her girlfriend.

“I’ll tell you tomorrow.”

Next time for sure.

Attempt 3

“WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP.” Shi Qingxuan jumped on He Xuan. Waking up to a rare day full of sunshine in the middle of winter felt like a miracle and she couldn’t wait to spend a cosy day with her girlfriend outdoors involving a picnic basket and wine. He Xuan continued to sleep and Shi Qingxuan rolled her eyes, all attempts to pull the blanket of her girlfriend was thwarted by the iron grip the unconscious woman had on the fabric.

“She either sleeps a lot of barely sleeps, she really needs to get back on a proper sleeping schedule. She reminds me of Yao.” Shi Qingxuan muttered to herself.

He Xuan who was pretending to sleep to avoid the sunlight opened her eyes as soon as her lover left the room. She peeked outside at the sunny skies and cursed the light filled day that coincided with her girlfriends day off. It was quality time that they could spent together but the sun gods decided to mess it up. Now she had to either pretend to be sick and stay in or go out covered up with people staring at her.

The sound of Shi Qingxuan singing in the kitchen and the smell of breakfast being cooked danced it’s way into the room, followed by the person itself swaying lightly around while humming.

“He Xuan~ I’m going to wear your favourite dress and go out alone if you don’t wake up right now.” The image of Shi Qingxuan in the white summery dress that swayed with the wind entered He Xuans mind and she couldn’t pretend to be asleep anymore. Pretending to rub the sleep out of her eyes, she squinted at her girlfriend.

“So much noise so early in the morning.” He Xuan complained with a slight whine in her voice.

“You are going to get ready and we are going to go to the park.” Shi Qingxuan ripped the blankets of He Xuan. An idea popped into the dark haired woman’s eyes.

“Let’s go to the forest instead.”

“The forest?”

“Yeah the isolated trail? Let’s spend some time alone.” He Xuan suggested, laughing at the suggestive look on her lovers face.

The two of them sat for hours in the middle of a beautiful clearing with colourful flowers littered all around. He Xuan who was sitting in a jacket, suddenly stood up in the middle of Shi Qingxuans excited rambling about puppies.

“I have to show you something.” He Xuan stood up and took off her jacket and hat. The sun hit her skin and she suddenly started sparkling like a freshly cut diamond. Shi Qingxuan stood up in wonder, her mouth slack and eyes reflecting the light.

“Woah your new highlighter is great.” She clapped, her mouth in an ‘o’. “Is this a part of your new line? I think it’s really going to get sold out.” She hugged He Xuan, and took a step back. “It doesn’t even transfer!” The tiny woman let out an excited squeal.

“It’s no-“

“I’m so proud of you my love, you’re so smart, so beautiful, and so talented.” Leaving a quick peck on her lip she dusted the grass of her dress. She looked up at the sky and said, “Let’s head back, it’s getting late.”

Shi Qingxuan linked her hands with He Xuan and dragged her along, discussing potential names for He Xuans ‘new highlighter’.

Attempt 4

“Can’t believe it’s Christmas already!” Shi Qingxuan sang, taking a bite of the cheesecake

“And our 5th anniversary.”

“And that!” The brunette beamed. “Oh I love you.”

“I love you too.” He Xuan kissed her lover. “And I’ve got you a present!”

“For Christmas or our anniversary.” Shi Qingxuan looped her hands around He Xuans neck.

“For both.” He Xuan unwrapped her girlfriends arms and headed to the Christmas tree. “One for each.”

He Xuan gave the other woman two wrapped packages that were quickly stripped off their cover and held high in front of her eyes.

“Twilight and a puzzle?” Shi Qingxuan laughed.

“Let’s solve it together, wasn’t it your favourite activity to do with your mum as a kid?” He Xuan smiled.

“It was.” The brunette smiled back.

They sat for hours piecing the puzzle together and laughing over old memories. Each year they spent together had culminated into a lifetime of joy and love. As Shi Qingxuan fit the last piece of the puzzle in, she stared at it with confused, looking up at He Xuan who looked constipated.

“You like big dicks and you do not lie?” Shi Qingxuan read out the finished puzzle.

“I’m going to kill those humans. How difficult is it to give the right puzzle.” He Xuan growled.

“Anything you want to confess?” Shi Qingxuan crossed her arms and stared at her very gay girlfriend with a questioning look.

“It was supposed to say ‘I am a vampire’.” He Xuan dropped her fangs. “And that,” she started, pointing at the red cup, “Is blood.” There was a few seconds of silence as everything He Xuan said caught up to her girlfriends mind. She stood scared for the first time in her immortal life, wondering how her favourite person in the world would react to her secret. Shi Qingxuan opened her mouth to speak, and shut it, before opening it again.

“Ohmygodyou’reasparklyvampire.”
